Brian Brown Earns First Win of Season at Knoxville Raceway After Hitting Reset Button

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 6, 2018) - Brian Brown captured his first feature victory of the season on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where his team hit the reset button.

"It's May so you really want to have won by now," he said. "We've had good car speed all year long, but we don't have the results to show how fast we've been. On Saturday my crew chief, Chad Morgan, said, 'Let's hit the reset button and act like this is Race 1.' We went into Knoxville with the mindset this was the first race of the year. It was exactly what the doctor ordered."

Brown was fast throughout his season debut at the half-mile oval, where he ranks seventh in career 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car wins. He qualified second quickest before powering from sixth to second place in a heat race. That made him the high-points driver and lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 20-lap A Main following a four-car inversion.

"Traveling as much as we have this year against the level of competition we've raced you can get beat down confidence-wise and you can get thinking outside the box," he said. "We've been racing at Knoxville so long we know what works. It takes the thinking of the car piece out of it. We just have to do what we have every single year. Our engines are so strong with Charlie Garrett Engines it takes care of itself.

"With Justin Henderson on the pole, Terry McCarl starting second and Davey Heskin third we knew we had our work cut out for us to win. We got a good start and drove right into second. We knew we had to be aggressive when we got to traffic. We were able to sneak by and lead the rest of the way."

Brown took the lead on Lap 8 en route to his 38th career 410 feature win at Knoxville Raceway. The victory also gives Brown at least one triumph each season since 2000 when he made his sprint car debut.

"It's good to get Casey's General Stores, FVP and all of our partners to Victory Lane," he said. "They stick with us whether we're 18th with the Outlaws or winning races."

Last weekend began on Friday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where Brown qualified 19th quickest after being the last driver out. He was unable to finish a heat race because of a mechanical problem, but rebounded to win the Last Chance Showdown to earn a spot in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Main.

"We drew the last pill and the track slowed down quite a bit for qualifying," he said. "Then we hurt an engine in a heat race. We got that changed before winning the LCS. We were stuck in the back of the main and I got myself spun around on one of the yellows, which was my fault. It wasn't the result we were hoping for, but if you qualify bad it's tough to get caught back up throughout the night. Especially when you have to change an engine midway through the night."

Brown didn't finish the main event and he was credited with an 18 th-place result.

The team has a trio of races on tap this weekend beginning on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. Brown will tackle the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey's Five Star Roofing on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 7, 2018) - A pair of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series starts resulted in a pair of podium performances for Fargo, North Dakota's Donny Schatz, now boosting the nine-time and defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion to an impressive 12 top-five finishes in 16 Series starts. The driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car highlighted his weekend swing with a victory at Lake Ozark Speedway in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., on Friday, May 4. It was a first-ever victory at Lake Ozark Speedway for Schatz, now with six World of Outlaws victories on the season.

“It's awesome to win with the World of Outlaws, let alone for the first time at a track,” said Donny Schatz in Lake Ozark Speedway victory lane. “I don't remember being here in 2007, but I remember being here tonight. Hats off to this race team. It's a lot of fun to race with guys that you have a special bond with. They work hard and it shows. I definitely wouldn't be in the position that I am without them.”

Schatz started third on the feature grid at Lake Ozark Speedway, powering underneath Logan Schuchart to take second by the completion of lap five. Less than two circuits later, Schatz was in control, working his way around race-long leader, Jacob Allen, to officially lead lap seven. Despite persistent pressure by Allen, Schuchart, and eventually David Gravel, Schatz held strong, driving on to score the $10,000 payday.

Schatz solidified his main event starting position by finishing third during the evening's dash, just after finishing second during heat race competition.

Schatz concluded his Missouri/Oklahoma road trip with a runner-up finish at the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., on Saturday, May 5. Starting second on the feature grid by way of dash result, Schatz led the first four circuits of the 30-lap Twister Showdown before giving up the top spot to eventual winner, Brad Sweet.

Schatz kicked-off his evening in Salina by recording the third fastest qualifying time, winning the third of three heat races soon thereafter.

Up next, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will press on and continue their 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series title chase with #LetsRaceTwo weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12. Smoke finishes fifth with All Stars during inaugural Buckeye Cup at Sharon Speedway

Date: Saturday, May 5th
Event: Inaugural Buckeye Cup
Series: Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1
Track: Sharon Speedway (Hartford, Ohio)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finish (Start): 5th (3rd)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 7, 2018) - Tony Stewart's decision to join the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 during the inaugural “Buckeye Cup” at Sharon Speedway on Saturday, May 5, proved to be well worth the travel, bettering most of the 43 entries signed-in to do battle at the state-of-the-art, 3/8-mile dirt oval by finishing fifth during the 30-lap main event. For Stewart, the top-five performance increased his season total to nine, also bumping his season top-ten total to 12.

Tony Stewart kicked-off his evening at Sharon Speedway by recording the fourth fastest time during his respective group of qualifying time trials. Smoke's qualifying effort placed the Columbus, Ind., native on the pole of a heat race, ultimately dominating all eight laps. By way of dash result, finishing second during the first of two All Star dashes, Stewart was able start on the inside of row two for the inaugural “Buckeye Cup” main event.

After fading slightly due to contact with the turn two guardrail, Stewart recovered in a hurry, working his way back inside the top-five before crossing under the final checkers behind Parker Price-Miller, Jac Haudenschild, Carson Macedo, and winner, Aaron Reutzel.

“It ended up being a pretty good night for our team,” Stewart said, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 14 sprint car. “I'm not sure if anyone was going to catch Aaron (Reutzel). Congrats to those guys. They were close a few times this year, so I'm happy to see them get an All Star win. The All Stars have a talented group of drivers following the schedule this year. Earning a top-five against that level of talent is always a good result.”

Tony Stewart's upcoming schedule will be determined in the coming days. Please stay tuned for further details.
