Ricky Thornton Jr. Collects $25,000 Farmer City 74 at FCR
Runner-up finish on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (05/13/2024) – Ricky Thornton Jr. rolled to his third-straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory over the weekend in Friday night's Farmer City 74 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway aboard his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Thornton earned a $25,000 payday for his first-career victory at the Illinois oval and his ninth overall on the season.

“I got to second behind J.D., and I’m like, ‘Man, second will be a really good night for us,’” Thornton said. “We got to traffic and I was able to close up on him a little bit and I’m like, ‘Man, I got a shot here.’ Me and him, that’s probably the hardest we’ve drove in a while. I think we gave each other plenty of room. I gotta thank J.D. for leaving us a lane every time and the same with Shannon (Babb) there (in the late stages). It was a wild one.”

With Wednesday’s opener at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) rained out and Thursday’s stop at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.) postponed to July 8th, Ricky Thornton Jr. and the SSI Motorsports team rejoined the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Friday for the Farmer City 74 at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.).

Taking on a stacked field of 55 Super Late Models, Ricky followed up the second-fastest time in his group with a runner-up showing in his heat race. Charging from the fourth in the feature, Thornton overtook late pacesetter Shannon Babb on lap 71 and paced the final three circuits to record his third straight LOLMDS triumph and 34th of his career. The $25,000 payday marked his ninth win of the 2024 season.

On Saturday evening at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the FALS Spring Shootout, Thornton raced his way into the $30,000-to-win weekend finale with a second-place finish in his heat race. He started in seventh and challenged Devin Moran for the lead late but couldn’t make the pass on the surface, which had become bottom dominant.

Brandon Sheppard, Jason Feger, and Jonathan Davenport completed the Top-5 finishers in the 60-lap affair.

Ricky has increased his margin atop the LOLMDS standings to 130 points.

Full results from the events can be found at www.LucasDirt.com.

Thornton is set to compete in only one event this weekend with Friday’s Northern Allstars Late Model Series sanctioned event at Circle City Raceway (Indianapolis, Ind.). The third annual C.J. Rayburn Memorial pays $10,000 to the winner.

Brandon Overton Banks $10,000 Spring Breaker 50 at EAMS
Prepping for Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series doubleheader at Whynot

EVANS, Ga. (05/13/24) – Despite Mother Nature raining out his original plans, Brandon Overton was still able to race and find Victory Lane over the weekend in Saturday night's Spring Breaker 50 at East Alabama Motor Speedway with his Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Convenient Lube / Muscle Factory/ Wells Motorsports Infinity Race Car / Clements Racing Engines - powered Super Late Model.

The Evans, Ga., driver took control of the lead on lap 14 and ran away with the $10,000 victory.

"I gotta thank Eric and the whole Wells family for all they do for me." Overton said. "We're starting to get this new car figured out and I am pretty excited for this season. Our team is constantly working their butts off and it shows."

Resorting to his secondary plans after Saturday’s Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals event at Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.) was postponed, Brandon Overton took the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Late Model into battle at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) for the inaugural Spring Breaker 50.

With time trial results setting the starting grid for the A-Main, Overton laid down the fourth-fastest time behind the wheel of his Garnto Southern-backed No. 76 Late Model. Taking the green in fourth for the feature, Brandon stormed into the lead on lap 14 and never looked back, pacing the remainder of the 50-lapper to claim his fifth win of the season and the $10,000 winner’s payday.

He finished ahead of Allen Styck, Austin Horton, Ross Bailes, and Haiden Cowan.

Full results from the event can be found at www.EAMSDirt.com.

Brandon is set to return with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series this weekend for a doubleheader event at Whynot Motorsports Park. Action kicks off on Friday with a $5,000-to-win preliminary followed up with Saturday’s finale, which boasts a $15,000 top prize.

Brian Brown battles for back-to-back top-fives; Saturday’s slate TBD

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (May 13, 2024) - It was a strong outing in the Hawkeye State for Grain Valley, Missouri’s Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing, not only activating the weekend with a top-five at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, but eventually capping the two-night slate with a runner-up performance at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.

Brown, ace of his own Casey’s, FVP, Andy's Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, Ditzfeld Transfer, No. 21 sprint car, finished fifth in his Friday night top-five, doing so in a High Limit Racing start against a 45-car field. A runner-up performance during heat race competition propelled “Blackjack” to the evening’s dash where he finished sixth - his eventual A-Main starting position.

As noted, Brown was second in his Saturday invasion of Knoxville, challenging Dusty Zomer relentlessly before settling for one spot off the top of the podium. In fact, Brown nosed out Zomer on a few occasions, leading by a nose on lap 10 and lap 14 before losing command in the next corners. Like 34 Raceway, Brown’s Knoxville preliminary effort was sound, setting quick time before finishing fourth from sixth in his respective heat race.

“Overall, just a solid weekend for our team, and that’s exactly what we needed to get things moving in the right direction,” Brown stated. “A top-five with High Limit at 34 Raceway was great, especially against a solid field of 45 cars like they had. And hats off to Dusty [Zomer] at Knoxville on Saturday. He ran a great race and didn’t make any mistakes. Sometimes, you’re the second best car and that was the case for us on Saturday night.

“I’m proud of our results and I’m proud of where our team is right now. Not sure of an exact plan for Saturday night, but we’ll keep our fans informed, for sure.”

ON DECK:
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2024 campaign with a start on Saturday, May 18; I-70 and Knoxville Raceway are the weekend potentials.

Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Lincoln Speedway (Abbottstown, Pennsylvania)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 13, 2024) - Although Mother Nature did what Mother Nature does best and ruined much of the week for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, Lincoln Speedway’s annual Gettysburg Clash went on as planned Wednesday evening, and Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz was right in the mix.

Schatz, ace of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts, Mobil 1, No. 15 sprint car, finished fifth in the Wednesday night blockbuster, commencing the $12,000-to-win headliner from seventh on the grid. Schatz’ performance helped the Outlaws capture four positions within the top-five, led to the finish by Series championship rival, David Gravel.

The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion kicked off his evening in the Pennsylvania Pigeon Hills with the fastest qualifying time, followed by a heat race victory. A seventh-place finish during the evening’s dash setup Schatz’ eventual A-Main starting position.

As hinted, Mother Nature went on to ruin the rest of the weekend, washing out Williams Grove Speedway’s Morgan Cup doubleheader set for Friday and Saturday, May 10-11.

Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and Donny Schatz will continue their 2024 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with a doubleheader in the Buckeye State, first visiting Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday, May 17, followed by a stop at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday, May 18.
