Dereck Ramirez Enjoys Success During Iowa Speedweek
Doubles Down in USMTS Victory Lane

WOODWARD, Okla. (06/23/20) – The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Iowa Speedway, a five-day stint last week, saw Dereck Ramirez claim a pair of $2,500 victories.

Ramirez drove his Ramirez Motorsports No. 4r Koda Services/ Boom-Test Well Service/ Raw Truck Wash/ Hughes Race Car/ Cornett Racing Engine Modified to Victory Lane at Stuart Speedway and Mason City Motor Speedway.

“I want to thank my team and all of our great sponsors for making this possible,” Ramirez noted. “We’ve been a contender every time that we unload. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going and give Rodney [Sanders] a challenge for the USMTS title.”

Ramirez kicked off the busy stretch on Tuesday night at Stuart Speedway for the inaugural Smackdown in Stuart. Charging to a heat race victory over Calvin Iverson, Ramirez locked into the sixth-starting position for the A-Main.

Waiting for his time to strike, Dereck overtook Tanner Mullens for the top spot on lap 34 and fended off Mullens late in the 50-lapper to capture his first win of the season and ninth USMTS victory of his career. He took the checkers ahead of Mullens, Kyle Brown, Jason Hughes, and Rodney Sanders.

The following night at Cedar County Raceway (Tipton, Iowa), Ramirez secured his spot into the $2,500-to-win A-Main with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Gaining four spots in the 40-lap affair, Dereck notched an eighth-place finish in the final rundown.

In a field of 21 USMTS entries on Thursday night at Mason City Motor Speedway for the Mayhem in Mason City, Ramirez jumped up two spots in his heat to place second behind Jacob Bleess.

Starting the feature in fourth, Dereck slid ahead of Jason Cummins through lapped-traffic on the seventh lap and withstood challenges from Rodney Sanders late to secure his second win of the week. Sanders, Tanner Mullens, Jason Cummins, and Kyle Brown trailed him to the checkers in the 40-lap affair.

On Friday afternoon at Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa), Derek posted a sixth-place finish in his heat, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $2,500 on the line, Ramirez clawed forward three spots in the 35-lapper to place third behind Rodney Sanders and Jason Hughes. Hunter Marriott and Tanner Mullens rounded out the Top-5.

For the final round of the five-day stretch in the Hawkeye State, Ramirez headed to Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) on Saturday night for the 14th annual Webster City Wrangle. Following a sixth-place finish in his heat, Ramirez locked his spot into the $3,000-to-win finale with an 8-lap consolation victory. Passing 10 cars in the 35-lap affair, Derek recorded a seventh-place finish.

Dereck remains in second in the latest USMTS National Championship point standings. Complete results from these events and the latest Series standings are available at www.USMTS.com.

Rodney Sanders Claims Win No. 12 of 2020 at Rapid Speedway
Five Top-5’s in Five Days During USMTS Iowa Speedweek

HAPPY, Tex. (06/23/20) – Make it a dozen. Rodney Sanders drove his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified to his 12th overall win of the season on Friday night.

The victory came at Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) during the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Iowa Speedweek. In addition to his win, Sanders never finished outside the Top-5 during the five-day stint in The Hawkeye State.

“I was hoping for more than just one win this week,” Sanders said. “Even at that, we had a great week and I’m really proud of our team and what we’ve accomplished so far this year. Hopefully we can continue clicking off these wins and Top-5 runs. That consistency is what we need to win our fourth USMTS championship.”

On Tuesday afternoon Sanders kicked off the action-packed week with the USMTS at Stuart (Iowa) Speedway. Improving four spots in his heat, Sanders posted a third-place finish which locked him into the fifth-starting position for the $2,500-to-win A-Main.

After leading 16 laps during the middle stages of the 40-lapper, Rodney slipped back to a fifth-place finish when the checkered flag flew, trailing Dereck Ramirez, Tanner Mullens, Kyle Brown, and Jason Hughes across the line.

Unable to close the distance between him and Dereck Ramirez late in the 40-lapper, Rodney registered a runner-up finish behind Ramirez. Tanner Mullens, Jason Cummins, and Kyle Brown rounded out the Top-5.

On Friday afternoon at Rapid Speedway for the 12th Annual Rapid Rumble, Rodney locked his spot into the main event with a third place finish in his heat.

Starting the feature in eighth, Sanders slowly made his charge to the front as he closed in on race-leader Jason Hughes in the closing laps. Closing out the busy USMTS week on Saturday, Sanders stopped at Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) to compete in a field of 26 cars for the Webster City Wrangle.

Posting a runner-up finish in his heat behind Tyler Davis, Rodney earned the eighth-starting position for the finale. Breaking into the Top-5, Sanders charged forward four spots to place fourth behind Zack VanderBeek, Jason Hughes, and Tyler Davis with Terry Phillips completing the Top-5.

Blake Hahn Ready For Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Return This Weekend

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (June 23, 2020) While Blake Hahn has been able to get behind the wheel several times as tracks begin to open across the United States, the driver of the DriveWFX.com No. 52 is ready to get back on tour with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network this week.

In action at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan. on Thursday, June 25, the second stop on the weekend lands the team at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. on Saturday, June 27.

"I'm looking forward to this weekend. We're going to two tracks that I enjoy racing at, especially I-30 Speedway. That's hands down one of my favorite places to race," explained Hahn.

Able to get some laps in since the world went into lockdown over COVID-19 in both Sprint Car and Midget competition, Hahn has used his time to test and tune, and in doing so, revealed an issue with the car he'd been running to start the National Tour.

"The time off the tour ended up being a big help because we figured out the car was bound up, even though everything squared and was free. Once we got the other car built after Park Jefferson, I felt like we had the right package again, and getting to run some of the 410 shows this month showed us some different things we can do setup wise."

Going into rounds five and six on the 2020 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports lineup of events, Hahn currently sits fourth in tour standings. A career-best runner-up at the close of the 2019 season, Hahn is determined to clinch his first career National Tour Championship.

"We were close last year, so we know we have what it takes to be a championship-winning team. We just need to put everything together and not make mistakes. That's what hurt us last year, and with the group, we race with, you don't get many chances to make up ground."

Thursday, June 25 at Caney Valley Speedway opens at 5:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Admission is $20 for adults and Kids 12 and under get into the grandstand for free. (CT) and includes IMCA Modifieds, Dixon Road U-Pull-It Factory Stocks, NOW600 Micros, and, Mod-Lites. The event is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Mid-South Region. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wheatland, Missouri (June 23, 2020) -  Las Cruces New Mexico native Garrett Alberson is the latest driver to announce intentions on competing for the 2020 Lucas Oil MLRA Rookie of the Year award, presented by Sunoco Race Fuels.  Alberson will campaign as part of a two car team for car owners Ken & Beth Roberts, alongside of fellow MLRA Rookie contender Jeremiah Hurst.

The thirty-one-year-old Alberson has spent the past two season behind the scenes, building on experience while learning from the some of the best in the industry as crew chief on the Black Diamond house car driven by Earl Person Jr.  At the end of last season he made the decisions to step away, and pursue his passion of driving super late models.  "I told Ronnie Stuckey close to the end of last season that my plan was to leave his team and try to focus on driving again.  At the end of last-year I started looking around for somewhere to land and there just wasn't a whole lot going on," stated Alberson.

With time running out on landing a spot for the 2020 season, he decided to make one last phone call and follow up on earlier conversations with Ken Roberts.  "Ken had tried to help me land a deal with another team this off season, but unfortunately it just never materialized.  When that happened Ken kind of knew where I was at and what I was hoping to do, so just a couple of weeks ago I ended up calling him because I knew him and his guys had mentioned the possibility of doing two cars."

"I was trying to be easy on them because I know how difficult a two car deal can be.  He suggested it and I though it sounded like a pretty cool opportunity.  To actually race last weekend was a little bit of a surprise.  We went up there just planning to ride along with them, but the team decided to get the car ready so all we had to do was swap seats and get some shocks ready, so it worked out pretty well."

Alberson's first full season of driving a super late model came in 2011 in his home state of New Mexico, where he racked up numerous feature wins to go along with track and regional championships.  Looking to develop his career he moved to Louisiana in 2014 and continued his successful journey, adding more wins and a 2017 runner-up finish in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series standings, before finding himself out of a ride when the Childress Racing team abruptly closed their doors.

"Whenever the Childress team shut down in 2017 there wasn't a really good immediate option to drive.  Then the team came available with Ronnie and the house car deal with Earl, and it just seemed like a really good way to get a chance to be around really good experience with Earl and just learn and pick up on things like how a veteran kind of conducts himself and how he goes about racing."

"That first year touring especially, I felt like I learned a whole lot and gained a lot of good info and contacts, but that second year it got to the point where I felt like I wasn't gaining as much as I was losing by sitting outside of the car," noted Alberson.  "My passion in the sport is definitely in driving, and I'm not where I need to be yet, as far as experience and stuff like that, but I think I'm going in a good direction if I can stay after it."

His time spent behind the scenes over the past couple of seasons has given him an opportunity to see things from a broader perspective which he feels will benefit him now when he gets behind the seat of the Roberts Motorsports Clements powered Black Diamond Chassis.

"I feel like I can make better decisions now as far as anticipating the track.  I've got to be around so many different tracks and track conditions than I ever had before and I feel like it helps me now to be able to read the tracks better."

With the opening MLRA swing of the year in the rear view, in which he raced his way into all three main events, Alberson's focus is now on finding more consistency.  "I think the first weekend showed we weren't where we need to be on preparations and we didn't have as good of game plan as we needed.  If we can progress and get everything going and organized I think both of us have a shot at winning some races.  We've got good cars and good motors and good people around us, so I don't see why we shouldn't be able to go it."

Alberson joins a strong contingent of drivers who will vie for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors, including his teammate Jeremiah Hurst, Justin Duty, Jeremy Conaway, Tony Toste, and Brennon Willard.

The Lucas Oil MLRA is back in action this Wednesday night at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO before a return visit to the Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha, OK on Thursday night.  Action will conclude with a Friday-Saturday double header at the Salina High Banks Speedway in Pryor Creek, OK.

Brian Brown Entering AGCO Jackson Nationals on Heels of Podium at Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 22, 2020) - Brian Brown garnered his third podium finish of the season last Saturday during a weekly show at Knoxville Raceway.

June 20 - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa - Qualifying: 1; Heat race: 1 (6); Feature: 2 (8).

"It was a pretty good night," Brown said. "We did everything but win the feature, which was the one that paid the most money. We set quick time during qualifying and won our heat race sixth. We got going pretty decent in the feature. I got pinned behind some cars and (Aaron Reutzel) got too far out. The lanes were blocked for me a couple of times. A couple of laps my times were two seconds off the pace because there was no place to go. At one point I think he was six seconds ahead and we shortened it to three and a half seconds by the finish. I think we were as good toward the end. He just did a better job early of getting through there.

"My car hasn't felt like I have in the past, but every week that goes by it feels more like my car. That's a good sign."

UP NEXT - Thursday through Saturday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., for the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series

"It's a place we've ran well before," Brown said. "We have been off the last couple of times we've been there. Me, Chad, Nate and dad have been through our notes. It's a big track, but it races small sometimes. I'm looking forward to getting back up there. I'm looking for a huge crowd for a great event at one of the premier facilities in the country."

Kerry Madsen Showing Strength Heading Into AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (June 22, 2020) - Kerry Madsen is riding momentum and confidence entering the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

The Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored Big Game Motorsports driver has recorded six straight top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series heading into the crown jewel event at Jackson Motorplex this Thursday through Saturday.

"I'm confident and I think we can run well," he said. "It'd be nice to put it on the podium at the boss's track. I feel like we have some confidence within the team. We're getting to know each other and the car, which is showing. We've been aiming to get the consistency. Then it's working on the little things and hopefully that will transition to the next level."

Madsen scored a pair of top 10s with the World of Outlaws last weekend at Tri-State Speedway.

The two-day event began on Friday with Madsen setting quick time during qualifying.

"Qualifying went well and then we were in the first heat race," he said. "It was really greasy and unfortunately we ran third. That put us starting ninth in the feature. We lost a spot early in the grease and then a couple more spots, but we were better in the later stage and got back up to ninth."

The weekend concluded on Saturday. Madsen qualified fifth quickest to start the program.

"We qualified well for when we went out," he said. "We won the heat and were pretty good in the dash."

A heat race victory put Madsen into the dash. He then gained a position to finish fifth, which lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"We were running fifth and got a bad restart," he said. "We gave up some spots and had to battle back to end eighth. Just like on Friday we were really good toward the end, but it was too little too late."

Hill Eager to Return to Racing This Week With ASCS National Tour

Inside Line Promotions - SIX NATIONS, Ontario, Canada (June 22, 2020) - Alex Hill is more than ready to return to racing this week with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour after a three-and-a-half month absence from the track due to COVID-19 restrictions.

"I'm excited to go back racing," said Hill, whose last competition was on March 8 in California. "I don't think I've ever been away from the track for this long. It's been like another offseason in the middle of the racing season."

Hill's team faced obstacles since March unique to teams in Canada. While other teams were able to resume racing as early as April, her team has sat idle because of border restrictions.

"I've been able to cross the border because I'm a dual-citizen," she said. "But my crew chief, Darryl, hasn't been able to return to the U.S. It was recently announced that they aren't opening the border until at least the end of July. But we also learned that while you can't cross the border in a vehicle, you can cross it on an airline flight.

"Fortunately, Daryl left our hauler and everything at Sam (Hafertepe Jr.'s) shop in Texas before the restrictions. He was able to fly there a week ago and that's why we can race now. Our other teammate, Dylan Westbrook, isn't as fortunate. They drove their toter back home to Canada and now they can't get it across the border."

Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., will welcome her back to racing on Thursday before the tour moves on to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday. Thursday will mark her debut at Caney Valley Speedway.

"It will be a challenge coming back to race a new track after being off for so long," she said. "But it will be nice to return to Little Rock, which is a track where we've run a lot of laps."

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Hill expects to remain on the road for most of the season rather than occasionally returning home to Canada as she has done in previous years.

"If I return to Canada I have to quarantine for 14 days, so I'll just stay in the U.S. since that doesn't work for racing," she said. "My mom usually goes to the races, but she's staying in Canada for that reason until we race in Washington."

Bogucki Back to ASCS National Tour Action This Week in Kansas and Arkansas

Inside Line Promotions - HOUSTON, Texas (June 22, 2020) - Scott Bogucki resumes Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition after more than a 15-week hiatus because of COVID-19.

The SawBlade.com sponsored driver will make his debut at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., on Thursday before heading to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday.

"As far as race-wise it's still early in the season, but as far as the season it isn't," he said. "Luckily we got to do some 410 racing during this time off. I think we learned some stuff with the 410 that hopefully we can apply to this."

This weekend marks the fourth straight year that Bogucki has raced at I-30 Speedway. His best result is a 17th-place outing during the Short Track Nationals last year.

"I don't really run that good there and it bothers me," he said. "It's just one of those places. Devil's Bowl was like that. When that happens I get really determined to be beat it. I've done that with Devil's Bowl so hopefully we can do that with I-30."

Bogucki enters this week's action ranked eighth in the ASCS National Tour championship standings. However, he is only 10 points out of fifth place and 47 points behind the leader.

Crockett Heading to Caney Valley and I-30 This Week With ASCS National Tour

Inside Line Promotions - BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (June 22, 2020) - Roger Crockett will pick back up with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this week when the series has its first race in more than 15 weeks.

Crockett is slated to compete on Thursday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., and on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

"I've never been to Caney Valley and I've only been to I-30 a few times," he said. "We've had some good runs there and some not so good runs there. The first time I raced there I did really good when I drove Paul Silva's car a long time ago. The last couple of times I've been there we had problems with our car. I think it's also a track where a good draw is important. Having a smooth night isn't the easiest thing."

Crockett's best result at I-30 Speedway came in 2005 when he earned a second-place finish. He also added a third-place run in 2004.

Crockett enters this week's competition third in the ASCS National Tour standings and is one of only two drivers to score a top-10 finish during three of the first four races this year.

"I feel more confident than when we started the year," he said. "We've learned a lot about our car and ran some 410 races. I think we've got some things figured out that will make us better. Any time you go from a 410 to a 360 it'll slow things down, too."

SEASON STATS -

10 races, 0 wins, 1 top five, 4 top 10s, 7 top 15s, 8 top 20s

Sides Aiming for Continued Success at AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (June 22, 2020) - Jason Sides heads to a beloved track this weekend when Jackson Motorplex hosts the 42 nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

Sides earned a pair of top 10s during the marquee World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at the 4/10-mile oval in Jackson, Minn., in 2017 and in 2018. He also won an Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions event at the track in 2012.

"The size and shape and everything about it is conducive to me," he said. "The older guys like Steve (Kinser), Jac (Haudenschild), all the ones who came from the big track era, they complained when they started changing the schedule from bigger tracks to smaller tracks. I now see it. There's a lot of action on the smaller tracks, but there's a lot of stuff that gets torn up. Bigger tracks give you room to move around.

"We've run good at Jackson so you go in there with the mindset you know how to run it and what to do with the car. The track seems pretty consistent as well. It gives you something to base everything off of."

Sides raced with the World of Outlaws during a doubleheader at Tri-State Speedway last weekend. He improved his qualifying and feature result from Friday to Saturday, ending the weekend with a 17th-place finish in the A Main.

"They farmed it and watered it all night, which is fine," he said. "When it came time to race on it there was no grip. Halfway through the races, until that stuff gets blown off, it's like riding on snot. You can't get the car tight enough. It's definitely a different track. It makes for a difficult read. If you try to start and stop around the bottom it's so much wheelspin. If you can keep momentum around the corner it's better.

"We made changes from the first night to the second night and it helped a ton. I think we were trying to keep up with it knowing we don't need to be as free and loose as we were on Friday."

QUICK RESULTS -

June 19 - Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. - Qualifying: 26; Heat race: 5 (7); Feature: 21 (18).

June 20 - Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. - Qualifying: 24; Heat race: 5 (6); Feature: 17 (20).
