Carney Going Strong into Dirt Cup

Lonnie Wheatley, EL PASO, Texas (June 20, 2019) – The last several weeks have been good ones for John Carney II and the Sander Construction/South Plains Auto Transport/Mesilla Valley Transportation No. J2 Sprint Car team.

After a runner-up finish in ASCS Speedweek points and a pair of strong South Dakota runs last weekend including a runner-up finish, Carney sets his sights on the $15,000 winner’s share at this weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour-sanctioned “Dirt Cup” at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA.

The event kicks off with the first of two preliminary nights on Thursday before wrapping up with money night on Saturday.

Carney opened the month of June in strong fashion, earning Hard Charger honors at Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Dallas by rallying from 14th to fifth in the feature event after the ASCS Speedweek opener at Amarillo’s Route 66 Motor Speedway fell victim to rain.

Carney continued on during a weather-plagued Speedweek, racking up another fifth-place finish at Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, June 5, before wrapping up the week with a runner-up finish at Kansas’ Salina Speedway on June 8.

The El Paso native continued his upward climb in the series point charts with a strong fourth-place finish at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, South Dakota last Friday before wrapping up his first visit to the pair of South Dakota tracks with a runner-up showing at Rapid City’s Black Hills Speedway on Saturday.

With top-finishes in his last seven Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature events, Carney has climbed to fourth in series points and looks to improve upon that as he guns for a $15,000 payday at this weekend’s Dirt Cup.

Cannon McIntosh Ready for Pair of POWRi West Showdowns this Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (June 21, 2019) – After two weekends of Speedweek action throughout Indiana and Illinois, Cannon McIntosh races closer to home this weekend with a pair of Lucas Oil POWRi West League events in Oklahoma.

The POWRi West Sooner Showdown gets under way Friday at Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway before moving on to Tulsa’s Port City Raceway on Saturday night.

Rather than being in the familiar Dave Mac Motorsports Toyota-TRD Spike No. 08 this weekend, the 16-year-old will wheel the No. 11b entry normally driven by teammate Kaylee Bryson, who will be in Micro Sprint action at the High Banks Hustle at Southern Illinois Speedway.

“There are a few little things that are different about each car, so we’re just wanting to test them out some this weekend,” McIntosh commented.

After a strong USAC Midget Week in Indiana that netted a pair of top-five finishes, last week’s POWRi Midget Week in Illinois was abbreviated by Mother Nature to little more than one race.

After the Wednesday night opener was rained out at Belleville, IL, McIntosh rebounded from an early-race incident on Thursday at Brownstown’s Fayette County Speedway to secure a ninth-place finish.  He then raced to a fourth-place finish in a makeup feature at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday before the balance of the night as well as Saturday and Sunday cards at Macon and Lincoln all fell victim to rain.

“We were fighting some brake problems and I just got in there and looped it at Brownstown,” McIntosh comments.  “Jacksonville was heavy and a had a huge curb right in the middle, there wasn’t a lot of room to do much of anything.”

McIntosh will be looking for victory lane with the POWRi West Midget League in Sapulpa and Oklahoma City this weekend.

Along with Toyota-TRD, other marketing partners making the 2019 Cannon McIntosh slate of events possible includes Sanders and Associates, Car and Fleet, Mobil 1, Speedway Engine Development, Best Graphics, Fieldhouse Gear, Precision Inspection, Panels by Smoke, Walker Performance, Sanders Wheels, American Discount Brake and Muffler, D&N Fabrication, Darling Ingredients, PJ’s and Hinds Family.

Up Next: Lucas Oil POWRi West Midget League at Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway on Friday and Tulsa’s Port City Raceway on Saturday.

ASCS Regional Weekend on Tap for Bellm after Nabbing First Win of the Season

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (June 21, 2019) – Kyle Bellm raced to victory lane in his most recent outing on Sunday, June 9, at California, Missouri’s Double X Speedway.

After a pair of rainouts last weekend, Bellm and the Greenworks Nursery/Landscapes Awarded No. 14k Sprint Car team look to keep up those winning ways with a pair of ASCS Mid-South Region events in Arkansas this weekend.

Action fires off at Poplar Bluff Speedway on Friday night before moving on to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.

“I really like both of those tracks, they’re both places that we usually do pretty well at,” Bellm commented.  “We have been second and fourth the last couple of times at Poplar Bluff and I really look forward to getting back to I-30 Speedway, I always enjoy racing there.”

Battling rain throughout the season thus far, Bellm is anxious to get back to racing after a win the last time out at Double X Speedway.  It followed a seventh-place run at Lake Ozark Speedway the night prior.

“We had been close there the last two time with second-place finishes, we finally put it all together and had a really good car,” Bellm said of the Double X score.

Bellm has two more shots at victory lane in Arkansas this weekend.

The Kyle Bellm Racing efforts are made possible with support from marketing partners including Greenworks Nursery, Landscapes Awarded, Christian County Collision Repair, Bybee Lawn Care, PPG Automotive Finishes, Colorvision, Schure Built Suspensions, Schaeffers Racing Oil and Park West Retirement Living.

Quick Stats:  13 Races, 1 win, 3 top-fives, 6 top-tens.

Bacon Resumes USAC Sprint Car Title Chase after Pair of Eastern Triumphs

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (June 21, 2019) – Brady Bacon continues to pick up momentum as the 2019 season proceeds.

He will look to continue that as the USAC National Sprint Car season continues at Putnamville, Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway on Saturday night.  Bacon will also take in Friday night’s Jerry Gappens, Sr., Memorial Non-Wing Sprint Car race at Gas City I-69 Speedway.

The weekend comes after Bacon opened last week’s Eastern Storm with a third consecutive win at Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania’s Grandview Speedway and then a first career USAC Silver Crown win at Williams Grove Speedway three nights later.

“We always enjoy getting to the Pennsylvania tracks, and it’s even better when we can get a couple of wins,” Bacon commented.

While Mother Nature claimed two of five Eastern Storm rounds for the Sprint Cars, Bacon struck the first blow last Tuesday at Grandview Speedway by notching his second USAC National Sprint Car win of th season aboard the Hoffman Racing / Mean Green No. 69 Sprint Car.

“We started up front, which always helps.  Then it got slick and we were able to pull away,” Bacon summed up.  “It was my third win in a row there, but it was the first time that we had the best car.”

“The Macho Man” rounded out the Sprint Car portion of Eastern Storm with seventh place finishes at both New Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway on Wednesday night and then central Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night, earning Hard Charger honors from 17th in the Port Royal event.

“We made some mistakes that cost in qualifying at Bridgeport,” Bacon recalled.  “Then we used a different motor at Port Royal and didn’t quite have it tuned right for qualifying.  We got it going pretty well in the feature, but the track was fast and pretty hard to pass on once everyone got going.”

A highlight of the week was Bacon’s first career USAC Silver Crown victory aboard the Klatt Enterprises No. 6 entry on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway where he scored the last-lap win

“We’ve been close several times before and something would always happen, so it was good to finally get one of those,” Bacon commented.  “We squeezed around a couple of guys and got back down to the bottom to get to second and then (Chris) Windom blew a tire on the last lap.  You never really know what might happen in those 100-lap races.”

The two-time USAC Sprint Car champion tries to add to the series win total Saturday night at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Brady Bacon Racing is bolstered by the support of partners including Mean Green, Fatheadz Eyewear, Imperial Wagyu Beef, Gene Franckowiak, Drivewfx.com, Tel-Star Technologies, B&S Cattle, Lykins Oil, Elliott’s Custom Trailers, Triple X Race Co., Hoosier Tire, XYZ Machine, Factor4, Heath Clips Lawn Care, FK Indy, Engler Machine and Tool, Lucas Oil, FK Rod Ends, Keizer Wheels, Purple Heart Foundation, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Smiley’s Racing Products, DMI, Walker Filters, ProGlide Coatings, Chalk Stixx, Wilwood Engineering, Lajoie Seats, Smith Precision Products, Allstar Performance, Simpson Racing Products, Driver Websites, Schroth Racing, Saldana Racing Products, KSE Racing Products, King Racing Products, Schoenfeld Headers.
