COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Preps for Third Annual Will McGary Tribute
Ken Schrader to Sign Autographs and Compete in IMCA Modified Class

Conway, Arkansas (04/04/19) – While the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series presented by Lucas Oil will be idle this weekend, the staff and racers are already busily preparing for their next event. Not only is it one of the highest paying races on the tour, but it is also a night that carries a very special meaning for a lot of people.

On Saturday, April 13 at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway the third annual Will McGary Foundation night will be held. On this much anticipated night, racers and fans will join together to celebrate the life and prestige of fallen police officer, Will McGary.

McGary tragically lost his life in the line of duty on February 1, 2013. The hard-working young man was fatally struck by an impaired driver, while protecting and serving the citizens of Conway, Arkansas. He was only 26 years old.

While Will’s life may have been unfairly taken away far too soon on that fateful February day, his generosity and his spirit continue to live on. He was an organ donor. In fact, three recipients received his heart and organs. They continue to live healthy lives because of Will’s generosity.

Those who knew McGary are quick to tell you just how special his giving nature truly was. With this in mind, it led to the formation of the Will McGary Foundation. The Foundation was created in honor of Will to continue his legacy by benefiting both the youth and law enforcement in Central Arkansas.

Established by a group consisting of Will’s church family and friends, the Foundation provides equipment, training, counseling and general assistance to law enforcement officers in Central Arkansas. In addition, it provides assistance to youth in the same region with an annual award to one or more graduating high school seniors.

A talented field of COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Model racers from across the region will converge on the ¼-mile oval to chase the $5,000 top prize. In addition, former NASCAR star Ken Schrader will be on hand to compete in the IMCA Modified class. He’ll also be signing autographs in the grandstand area from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Schrader last raced at I-30 Speedway in 2017 and came away with a victory that night. When asked about what it takes to win at tricky clay oval, the Missouri native was straight to the point.

“You gotta get to the checkered flag before everybody else,” Schrader laughed. “I remember a lot about I-30 Speedway. The first time there, I ran second in a Midget show in the 1970s. Then I caught on fire in an NDRA Late Model race on the parade lap a few years later. Another time there I broke my shoulder in a Sprint Car wreck, when Doug Wolfgang’s right-front tire flew off and hit me in the shoulder.

“We won at I-30 back in 2017, the last time we were there. I remember that it’s an elbow up kind of place. It’s a really racy joint and there’s a lot of tough competition. While I haven’t raced there just a ton, I definitely have a lot of memories of the place.”

Schrader is also proud to be part of a night that pays honor to the late officer McGary.

“We’re very happy to be able to support this event,” Schrader noted. “One of my sponsors, Hawkeye Truck Sales from Arkansas, told me about the event back in December, and we put it on the schedule instantly.

“The job that these men and women of law enforcement do is amazing. It’s terrifying to think about what these officers face on a daily basis. When you step out of your squad car on the side of the road, you never know what you’ll encounter these days. It takes special people to do that job, and we’ll do anything to support this cause.”

On Saturday, April 13 the third annual Will McGary Tribute will be held at Tracey Clay’s I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas. The CCSDS Super Late Model feature posts a $5,000 top prize. Billy Moyer picked up the inaugural event win in 2017, while Jack Sullivan scored an emotional victory in the race in 2018.

IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Mod Lights will also be part of the show.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing action at 7:00 p.m. Adult grandstand admission is $20 with kids (ages 6-12) $1 and children (5 & under) free. Pit admission is $35. For more information on the facility, please visit www.I-30Speedway.com .

The CCSDS tire rule for this event is Hoosier 1350 on all four corners with a Hoosier LM 40 option for the right rear.
