On March 18th the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will kick off their 2017 season at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee. The 3/8ths mile track located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains just thirteen miles south of Knoxville will once again serve as the Opening Event for the 2017 Chevy Super Series Tour.
The track which opened up on Easter Sunday in 1960 has always worked hard for their fans, and racers in order to provide the best show possible.
"In my opinion it is better to have the track a little bit slower, but where people can race from top to bottom. I think it is what both fans, and racers like to see. In order to have the track the way we prefer, we usually start getting the track ready on Thursdays for a Saturday show. It takes time for the track to get just right, we start with water, then pack the track, and let it crack back open." stated track owner Mitch McCarter.
In previous years, visits from the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series have been a testament to the hard work. In 2015, Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tennessee started dead last, but was able to battle his way up to win the race. In 2016, the "Chattanooga Flash" started in the twelfth position but was able to battle his way up and end the night with a third place finish. As it turns out, Johnson has been visiting 411 Motor Speedway since the early seventies. At that point, he was only sixteen years old while his Father was a car owner for the 77 of Jerry Meadows. Johnson told us in a post- race interview "It's one of my favorite places to race, one reason is because there is always such a great turn out in the stands.". This also reflects what 2017 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Champion, Tyler Crowder had to say after his win at 411 Motor Speedway "It's always fun to go to tracks where you know the crowd is involved and there will be good racing.
Like the Chevy Super Series, 411 Motor Speedway is well known for their family atmosphere, and good people involved. The track is run by Tanya, and Mitch McCarter, along with their two sons Mack, and Pierce McCarter.
"It takes all of us. Without my wife, Mack, and Pierce's help we wouldn't be able to make everything happen. My younger son Pierce's wife helps at the track, and My grandchildren Bristol, and Kolton are already helping out at the track too." Mitch McCarter said with pride in his voice. "Rick Brooks, who is our General Manager, and Joe Byrd, our Tech Specialist spend just about every hour at the track and we couldn't thank them enough. When all of us work together, we are able to put on a good show, and I'm very proud of that."
For good racing, and family fun at an affordable rate 411 Motor Speedway is without a doubt the place to be. For more information on 411 Motor Speedway visit http://411motorspeedway.net or follow them on Facebook, and Twitter at @411motorspeedway.
