Seymour, TN – The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series took to “Tennessee’s Action Track” 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on Saturday night August 5th for their second trip to the McCarter family operated oval located at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains. When the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag flew at the end of the 50 lap affair, it was Loudon, TN driver Cory Hedgecock who parked his Valley Transport/Transport One/Cushman/Eagle Racing Engines sponsored Rocket Chassis in victory lane claiming his second win in as many stops at 411 in 2017.

What was originally scheduled to be night #2 of the Chevrolet Thunder Nationals at 411 Motor Speedway became a one-day, $3,000 to win, 50 lap affair after Friday afternoon heavy rains forced the cancellation of Friday night’s event scheduled at sister track Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN. The rains washed out what was being anticipated by fans and drivers as one of the wild card races of the season, as well as the possible $4,000 bonus should one driver win on both Friday and Saturday night.

With Friday night taken by Ma Nature, it was on to Saturday night which would get kicked off with Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Qualifying. Cory Hedgecock would put his #9 machine on the pole with a lap time of 14.368 seconds, and fellow front row starter would be “The Hustler” Riley Hickman who timed in with a 14.384 second lap. With day turning to night and a strict curfew in effect, officials would forgo heat races to line the field up for the 50-lap main event.

At the drop of the green flag, Hedgecock would jump to the point, but it would be short lived as the caution would wave before the completion of lap 1. On the second attempt to get the race underway, Hedgecock would once again edge outside front row starter Hickman coming to the green flag. From there Hedgecock would establish himself a comfortable lead through the early stages of the race making quick work of lapped traffic, but Apollo Beach, FL driver Devin Dixon kept the his Big Frog Motorsports/Dave’s Towing Sponsored Rocket XR1 within striking distance as they began to encounter those lap cars. Caution would wave on lap 25 for a single car spin in turn 2 which would stack the field up for a “Dixie” style double-file restart. Dixon, 2016 Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year Austin Smith, and Jake Knowles would line up with their eyes set on taking on the race long leader.

When the green flag flew it was once again all Hedgecock as he grabbed the point and set the pace while the battle for position raged behind him. As the field began to stretch out, 2nd place Devin Dixon began to slow at the entrance of turn 3 before stopping in turn 4 ending his night and taking him out of the runner up spot that he had held for much of the race. With another restart setting up a dash to the finish, Hedgeock would once again set the pace and lead the remaining laps in route to his third win of the season on the Chevy Super Series tour, and second win at 411 Motor Speedway for the series in 2017, giving him a sweep at the 3/8th mile oval.

All results are unofficial pending tire and fuel sample testing at an independent laboratory. Finish and points listed will be updated if needed. The points standings reflect a new leader following the race at 411 Motor Speedway as Austin Smith will secure the top spot heading into the Labor Day weekend at Dixie and Rome Speedway’s in Georgia as a result of a $100 fine and 10 point deduction issued to race winner Cory Hedgecock for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during post-race technical inspection. The top 5 in points are separated by a mere 34 points heading into the next two events.

The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will make its next appearance during the Labor Day Holiday weekend at two of the most historical tracks in the south. On Saturday September 2nd, the series will visit the “Home of the Champions” – Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA for a $2,000 to win, 30 lap event. Then the series will head to “The World’s Fastest Half Mile Clay Oval” – Rome Speedway in Rome, GA where competitors will run 100 laps for the richest purse in series history - $10,000 to win! Both tracks, promoted by the Swims family, will be the place to be for the Labor Day weekend! Last year’s events were some of the best yet, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate Rome Speedway’s 51st Anniversary season!
