PAGE PREVAILS IN BOYD’S SPEEDWAY CHEVY SUPER SERIES RACE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

RINGGOLD, GA – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA was the class of the field on Friday night in winning the 50-lap main event for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series at Boyd’s Speedway. Page set Fast Time honors, started on the pole position, and led all 50 laps to take the $3,000 victory in the T&T Trucking Stinger.

Page was set to take the white flag with a half-lap advantage over the second-place driver, two-time Chevy Super Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN. But the white flag gave way to the yellow flag when Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA spun the Hill Motorsports Warrior in turn four.

The big lead was gone, and Page led a Dixie-Style Double-File Restart back for a green-white-checkered finish. Johnson chose the outside behind Page, and the third-place car Jake Knowles of Rome, GA lined up to Johnson’s left on the inside. Page held the lead through turns one and two, while Johnson and Knowles swapped some sheet metal in a side-by-side battle for second.

There would be no battle for the lead, as Page pulled away to take a 1.833 second margin of victory under the checkered flag to open a Triple Racing Weekend for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series. Page said the caution flag was the last thing he wanted to see at the end of the race.

“With that long of run under green, you just never know if your tires are going to fire back up after a caution,” Page said. “The car stayed good, and it’s always good. I didn’t know how big of a lead I had, but I knew Ronnie Johnson was in second, and I had better be smart, be patient, and not give up too much in lapped traffic because one wrong move and he would have been right there.”

Knowles driving the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Longhorn ended up wrestling the second spot away from Johnson, who had to settle for third in the Josh Roberts Trucking Capital. Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN took the fourth spot in the Hickman Manufacturing Mastersbilt, and Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL was fifth and the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Race in the Skinner’s Body Shop Rocket.

Chase King of Seymour, TN drove the Stinger Race Cars “House Car” to a sixth-place finish and Jody Knowles of Tyrone, GA was the Mudd Sauce Lucky 7th-Place Award winner in the Clayton Signs Rocket. Jody Knowles was also the Hard Charger of the Race after starting 12th.

Zach Pilcher of Rome, GA took the eighth spot in the Avery Drugs/Healthmart Capital, and Dale Thurman of Cartersville, GA was ninth in the Thurman Mechanical Capital. Brindle came back from his lap 49 spin to round out the top ten.

In preliminary action, Page out-timed the 22-car field with a lap around Boyd’s Speedway in 14.602 seconds to pick up $300 from Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, Buster Goss Body Shop, and Helbing Brown Concrete Construction. The ten-lap B-Main Race was won by Joseph Brown of Columbus, GA in the Lewis Auto Sales Black Diamond.

Page took the lead at the start of the race followed by Johnson, Hickman, Jake Knowles, and Skinner. The pace was slowed early and late in the race, as the caution flag came out on lap four for a three-car tangle in turn two involving Jacques Daniel of Mokopane, South Africa in the Jac Speed Racing Rocket, Scott Hall of Rome, GA in the Helbing Brown Concrete Construction Rocket, and Buster Goss of Rome, GA in the Buster Goss Body Shop Capital.

Page had Johnson, Hickman, Jake Knowles, Skinner, Brindle, Pilcher, King, Dalton Polston of Lithia Springs, GA in the Street Side Classic Cars Capital, and Thurman doubled up behind him for the Dixie-Style Double-File Restart. Page pulled away with the lead when the green bulb flashed on, while Johnson and Hickman battled side-by-side for second behind him.

Hickman took the second spot away from Johnson on the outside coming off the fourth turn to complete lap four. Page stretched out to a full straightaway lead over Hickman by lap ten when he caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap. Hickman had a two car-length lead on Johnson, and the second-place driver closed to within a half-straightaway on Page by lap 13.

Lap 17 saw Page open back up a full straightaway lead, while Johnson moved up to battle Hickman side-by-side for second in heavy lapped traffic. On lap 21, the two cars made contact in turn two, and Johnson was able to wrestle away the second position from Hickman. At the halfway point in the race, Page had a full straightaway lead on Johnson, and then the leader went to work.

In 15 lap’s time, Page had a half lap lead on Johnson with ten laps to go. Jake Knowles moved up to battle Hickman side-by-side for the third spot on lap 45, and Knowles made the pass for the position on the front straight away with three laps to go.

Brindle spun in turn four on lap 49 to bring out the caution flag. Page’s big lead was gone, and there would be a green-white-checkered Dixie-Style Double-File Restart behind him. Doubled up behind Page in second through tenth respectively were Johnson, who chose the outside, Jake Knowles, Hickman, Skinner, King, Pilcher, Polston, Jody Knowles, and Brown.

Page was up to the task, and there would be no challenge for the lead. Page did in the last two laps what he had done all night, and that was pull away from the field. Page will now try to take his momentum to the next two events of the Triple Racing Weekend.

The Chevrolet Performance Parts Super Late Model Series will now travel to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA on Saturday night for a $2,000-to-win 40-lap main event. The third race of the Labor Day Holiday Weekend will be on Sunday night with a $3,000-to-win 50-lap race at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA.
