TWO IN A ROW IN CHEVY SUPER SERIES AS PAGE WINS AT DIXIE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WOODSTOCK, GA – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA won his second straight Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway driving the T&T Trucking Stinger. Page passed early race leader Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN in lapped traffic on lap 15, and then pulled away for the $2,000 win in the 30-lap main event.

“Ronnie Johnson has been a hero of mine since I was a little boy, and when we came up on the lapped car, he made the move to the top, and I went to the inside to take the lead,” Page said. “We had a little harder tire on the right-front than Ronnie did, and the car kept getting faster when the tire came in.”

Johnson picked up his sixth straight top five finish in 2018 Chevy Super Series competition with a second-place finish in the Josh Roberts Trucking Capital.  Jake Knowles of Rome, GA took the third spot in the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Longhorn.

Chase King of Seymour, TN was the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Race with a fourth-place finish in the Stinger Race Cars “House Car,” and Zach Pilcher of Rome, GA was fifth in the Avery Drugs/Healthmart Capital. Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL drove the Hickman Manufacturing Mastersbilt to a sixth-place finish.

Landon Bagby of Winston, GA finished seventh to earn the $50 Mudd Sauce Lucky 7th-Place Award in the Neighborhood Auto Center Rocket. Joseph Brown of Columbus, GA was the Hard Charger of the Race after starting the Lewis Auto Sales Black Diamond 20th and finishing eighth.

Oliver Gentry of Newnan, GA finished ninth in the Gentry Used Auto Parts and Recycling Longhorn, and Scott Hall of Rome, GA rounded out the top ten in the Helbing Brown Concrete Construction Rocket.

In preliminary action, Johnson out-timed the 23-car field with a lap around Dixie Speedway in 15.491 seconds to pocket $400 from Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, Buster Goss Body Shop, Helbing Brown Concrete Construction, and Tuggle’s Pool Service.

Johnson took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by Page, King, Knowles, and Mark Page of Villa Rica, GA in the Page Racing Rocket. Johnson reached the cars on the tail of the lead lap on lap nine, and he had opened up a ten car-length advantage on Page. While Johnson weaved his way through lapped traffic, Page began to close in on the leader.

When the lead duo came up to lap Ahnna Parkhurst of Evans, GA in the F&W Transportation Bloomquist going down the backstretch on lap 15, Johnson went to the outside of Parkhurst and Page went to her inside. Page had the preferred line going into turn three and cleared Johnson to take the lead coming off the fourth turn.

Parkhurst once again found herself in the middle of the battle for the third position on lap 19 when Knowles went to her outside while battling King, who went to her inside. Knowles made the high side work, as he sailed around King to take over the third spot.

The only caution flag of the race came out on lap 20 when Mark Page stalled on the high side of turn three with a small fire under the hood of his car. The Dixie Speedway Safety Crew put out the fire and Mark Page was uninjured. Michael Page led the field for the Dixie-Style Double-File Restart with Johnson, Knowles, King, Pilcher, Bagby, Skinner, Gentry, Hall and Brown doubled up behind him in second through tenth respectively.

Johnson chose the inside and he was able to hold off a challenge for the second spot from Knowles. Page pulled away and had a ten car-length advantage on Johnson by lap 23. Page was able to take a 1.963 second margin of victory under the checkered flag.

After the Dixie win and the Friday night Chevy Super Series win at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA, Page will go for the “Hat Trick” on Sunday night at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA for a $3,000-to-win 50-lap main event, Round 7 of the 2018 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series season.
