Shane Clanton Wins Dream Prelim; Finishes Third in Finale
LOLMDS Competition Up Next

Zebulon, Georgia (6/10/19) – Shane Clanton enjoyed a great weekend at the 25th running of the Dirt Late Model Dream. The driver of the Weldbank Energy #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model picked up a $10,000 win in preliminary action on Friday night, and backed it up with a third-place finish in the $125,000-to-win finale.

“I knew I had a good car. I just needed to keep the nose clean,” Clanton said in regards to Friday night’s $10,000 victory. “I tried the top a little bit and [Gregg Satterlee was] trying to get some of that moisture leaving the bottom, and he was right where I needed to be to make a good lap, but I knew I was OK where I was. I didn’t feel like I was losing no ground, and I could maintain down the straightaway.

“We’ve been struggling all year long, but it’s a never-give-up attitude with this team. We just work awful hard. It takes a team effort and we didn’t give up. We’ve got a no-give-up attitude and we’ll just work until nobody else can work. I promise you we work as hard or harder than everybody else in the pit area, it’s just sometimes it doesn’t show it. This year is a testament of when we work hard, this is what we get.”

After racing in the Top 5 for much Saturday night’s finale, Clanton crossed the finish line in the third position.

“We needed a little more adjustment there to be in lapped traffic,” said an upbeat Clanton. “If I could have got out in the lead by myself and had enough air on my nose, I think I could have had a chance at the win. But I just had a little aero-push behind those guys. All in all, it was a good weekend to win a preliminary feature and run third [in the big race] ain’t too bad.”

Thursday night found Shane Clanton invading Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. Drawing a stout field of 92 cars for a pair of $10,000-to-win preliminary features, Clanton registered the ninth-fastest time in his group before placing third in his heat race. Starting the A-Main in the ninth position, Shane improved three spots, reeling in a third-place finish.

Returning on Friday for another round of preliminary features, Clanton started the night with a heat race victory, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the show.

Blasting into the lead on the opening lap, Shane led wire-to-wire en route to his third win of the season, which came over Chris Ferguson, Ross Bailes, Chase Junghans, and Don O’Neal. He pocketed a $10,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 25-lap affair.

For the final night of the Dirt Late Model Dream on Saturday evening, Shane survived contact with the wall after a quick shower in his heat race to finish second behind Dennis Erb Jr. Earning the 11th-starting position for the $125,000-to-win finale, Clanton gained eight spots in the 100-lapper to notch a third-place finish behind Brandon Sheppard and Dale McDowell with Chase Junghans and Tyler Erb completing the Top-5 finishers.

“It was a great weekend for us, and honestly I thought it was even better than it turned out to be,” Junghans revealed. “We passed two cars on the final lap on Saturday night, but since they called the caution after the leaders got together past the checkered flag, they went back to lap 99, where we were sixth. It’s pretty disappointing and is about a $2,500 swing for us, but I guess it is what it is.

“Apart from that I couldn’t be more proud of our team. We have come so far, and we are truly a contender every time that we unload now. There’s been a lot of hard work and sleepless nights for everyone. Because of this total effort our performance on the track has never been better. Hopefully we can head into the Firecracker at Lernerville in two weeks and come away with our biggest win yet.”

On Thursday evening Chase Junghans was one of 92 Super Late Model competitors registered at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. Gaining two spots in his heat race, Junghans recorded a third-place finish, which positioned him 13th on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature. Dropping one spot in the 25-lap affair, Chase posted a 14th-place outing.

Returning on Friday for another round of preliminary features, Chase recorded the third-fastest lap in his time trial group before streaking to a 10-lap heat race victory. Starting the feature in fifth, Junghans jumped up one spot to place fourth behind Shane Clanton, Chris Ferguson, and Ross Bailes with Don O’Neal rounding out the Top 5.

Wrapping up the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream on Saturday night, Junghans secured his spot into the $125,000-to-win finale with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 18th, Chase advanced through the field 14 spots to record an apparent fourth-place finish. However, due to a caution that ensued after the leaders crossed the checkered flag, the running order reverted back to lap 99, where Junghans ran in the sixth position.

The team will be idle this weekend, before returning to competition next weekend – June 20-22 – with the annual Firecracker 100 weekend at Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pennsylvania). The World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series weekend is highlighted by a $6,000-to-win program on Thursday and Friday nights with a $30,000-to-win finale on Saturday night.

Chase is currently second in the latest WoO standings. For more information on the weekend, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .

Chris Ferguson Finishes Fourth in the Dirt Late Model Dream
Three-Race Weekend Up Next

Mt. Holly, North Carolina (06/10/19) – Top to bottom, the 2019 edition of the Dirt Late Model Dream was a great experience for Chris Ferguson. The North Carolina racer put a cap on the crown jewel weekend with a fourth place finish in the finale in his Diff-Tran Machining #22 K and K Trucking/ Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“We’ve shown some speed at Eldora in the past, but up until this weekend, we’ve never been able to put a whole weekend together. That all changed at this year’s Dream,” Ferguson revealed. “We actually had an oil leak for much of Saturday’s feature but we were still fast. We also battled a tight condition all weekend, and I actually pushed on the last lap giving up a couple of spots. We got a bit of a break though because the leaders got together at the checkered flag, and they threw the caution so they reverted back to lap 99, which gave us a fourth-place finish.

“It was fun racing these guys and being in the front all weekend at such a big event.”

Thursday found Chris Ferguson making the trek to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. Drawing a stout field of 92 Super Late Models for a pair of $10,000-to-win preliminary features, Ferguson recorded the seventh-fastest time in his group before placing third in his heat. Starting the A-Main in 11th, Chris streaked through the field seven spots to claim a fourth-place finish behind Darrell Lanigan, Jonathan Davenport, and Brian Shirley.

Returning on Friday for another round of preliminary features, Chris laid down the eighth-fastest lap in his time trial group before placing second in his heat race behind Shane Clanton. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Ferguson jumped up two spots in the 25-lapper to finish second behind Shane Clanton with Ross Bailes, Chase Junghans, and Don O’Neal trailing them to the checkers.

For the final night of the Dirt Late Model Dream on Saturday evening, Ferguson placed sixth in his heat race, but was granted a provisional into the $125,000-to-win finale based upon his point’s total from the preliminary nights. Rolling off 20th, Chris passed 16 cars in the 100-lap affair, reeling in a fourth place finish behind Brandon Sheppard, Dale McDowell, and Shane Clanton.

Dale McDowell Finishes Second in Thrilling Dream Finale
LOLMDS at Smoky Mountain Speedway Up Next

Mooresburg, Tennessee (06/10/19) –
Dale McDowell came up just a few feet shy of claiming his second Dirt Late Model Dream title on Saturday night. The driver of the Shane McDowell Racing/ E-Z-Go #17m New Era Industrial/ Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model finished a mere 0.056 seconds behind the race winner.

“That was probably the most painful second-place finish I’ve ever experienced,” McDowell quipped. “To be that close to the win and come up just short is tough. I mean, it was a $105,000 difference between first and second place. When we came to the checkered flag, Brandon [Sheppard] and I came together. It was hard racing for the win.  So, we rubbed a little bit and we ended up spinning out. I mean I was trying to get to the flag first obviously.”

McDowell was able to make a late-race charge, but his chances of winning were thwarted by a slowing, lapped car.

“The racetrack actually cleaned up there in the bottom those last couple laps and I was able to make some big gains,” McDowell note. “I went into turn three and Jimmy Owens was pulling into the pits so I had to actually swing a little bit wide so that killed me a little bit getting into the corner. We came up short, and that’s disappointing, but it was still a strong weekend for our team. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.”

Thursday night found Dale McDowell and the Shane McDowell Racing team in action at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the opening round of the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. With a stout field of 92 Super Late Models registered for action, McDowell secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature with a 10-lap heat race victory. Starting in seventh, Dale improved three spots in the 25-lapper to score a fourth-place finish behind Ricky Weiss, Chris Madden, and Jacob Hawkins.

Returning on Friday for another round of preliminary features, McDowell jumped up two spots in his heat, scoring a third-place finish. With $10,000 on the line in the 25-lap feature, Dale passed five cars to claim a sixth-place finish.

Wrapping up the 25th annual Dirt Late Model Dream on Saturday evening, Dale edged his way into the $125,000-to-win finale with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race.

Rolling off 13th for the crown jewel finale, McDowell worked his way up to the eighth position by lap 31 and climbed into the Top-5 by the halfway point. Closing in on race leader, Brandon Sheppard late in the 100-lap affair, Dale made a strong big for the top spot exiting the final corner but came up .056 seconds short at the finish line as he and Sheppard made contact, causing McDowell to spin into turn one. He was credited with a runner-up finish behind Sheppard. Shane Clanton, Chris Ferguson and Tyler Erb completed the Top 5.

Full results from the weekend are available at www.EldoraSpeedway.com .

This Saturday the team returns to action with a trip to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee), where a $15,000-to-win program will be held for the Lucas Oil Late Dirt Series.

McIntosh Makes All Three Features at The Dream

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (June 10) In his third trip to The Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway Donald McIntosh put the Blount Motorsports Rocket in the two preliminary features and the 100-lap Dirt Late Model Dream.

One of the Crown Jewel events the Dirt Late Model Dream pays $125,000 to win and draws the best Dirt Late Model drivers in the country to the famed Eldora Speedway. This year there were 92 cars on hand trying to make the 28-car starting field.

“I feel like we made some progress as we made the first two races through the heats and The Dream through a B Main,” said David Bryant. “I think for our experience level with 100-lap events and being a regional team we had a better showing this year.”

Starting 21st in The Dream McIntosh was running in 15th when a huge chunk of the cushion came down in front of the car. Unable to stop or for that matter slow down much he hit the mud ball. It folded under the nose and put the car in the wall.

“I really enjoy racing at Eldora and it is all that much better when you are racing all the races, like we did this year,” said McIntosh. “The combination of the big race track and running a 100-lap feature put us out of our comfort zone a bit. Mark Richards at Rocket gave us some guidance and that helped, but we were never able to get the car where it needed to be.

We keep getting better every time we go to Eldora and that is encouraging.”

Coming up next will be the Lucas Oil Moonshine Classic this Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway. McIntosh will be joined at the event by teammate Tommy Kerr.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp., Blount Excavating, Massey Electric, Turner Hydraulics, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Walker’s Truck Contractors, Food City, and The Wine and Spirits Cellar.

BMS races Rocket XR1 Chassis. Power is provided by Vic Hill Racing Engines with Dyer’s Top Rods, Driven Racing Oil, Waterman Fuel Pumps, VP Race Fuels and starting power from Go Lithium batteries. Gauges and wiring harnesses from QuickCar. Drive train components are from Quarter Master with Carbon Fiber drive shafts from Fastshafts. The shocks are Penske Racing Shocks with chassis and suspension components from TWM and springs from Hyperco. Noses and body parts are from Five Star Stock Car Bodies and tires are Hoosier Performance Tires from Hoosier Tires South.

Tyler Erb Finishes Fifth in the Dirt Late Model Dream
LOLMDS Triple Header Scheduled for This Weekend

St. Marys, Ohio (06/10/19) – It was a home-game kind of weekend for Tyler Erb as he and Best Performance Motorsports thundered into the famed Eldora Speedway (Rossburg Ohio) for the 25th running of the Dirt Late Model Dream.

The weekend ended with Erb piloting the Best Performance Motorsports No. 1 New Point Lighting and Design/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to a Top-5 finish in the finale for the crown jewel.

"The first 40-50 laps [of Saturday night’s finale] I was trying to kind of save my stuff, but I was slipping backwards so I knew it was time to go by the time we got to the midway point," Erb said. "I'm happy with our performance, but it's kind of disappointing too. It's so hard to get to the front of these big races, so when you get this close you really want to win. When I got to second, I made some mistakes that cost us some position on the track. With what we've learned here, hopefully we can come back and win the World 100 in September. We just have to keep digging."

Located just down the road from their St. Mary's Ohio shop, the team invaded Eldora Speedway on Thursday night as the first crown jewel event of the 2019 campaign came to life. With 92 competitors on hand for the opener, Tyler streaked to a heat-race win, which locked him into the fifth-starting spot for the 25-lap, $10,000-to-win, preliminary feature. He would go on to fight a tight race car home to an eighth-place finish.

On Friday evening, the field was again split into a pair of $10,000-to-win programs. Tyler qualified ninth fastest in his group, which positioned him in the second starting spot for his heat race. He slipped to a third-place performance in the heat, but the finish was good enough to send him to the 25-lap, preliminary feature, where he started ninth. He again found himself chasing the handle on his No. 1 entry. He crossed the finish line in 11th.

Via his performances in preliminary action, Tyler was positioned third on the grid for his Saturday night heat race. A charge to a second-place finish locked him into seventh-starting spot for the coveted, $125,000-to-win finale in front of a massive crowd.

During the early stages of the 100-lap affair Erb would slip back in the pack to just outside the Top 10. However, as the race progressed, so did the forward drive for the Texas native. By the late stages of the event he battled for the runner-up position before slipping to a fifth-place finish following a late-race restart. He followed Brandon Sheppard, Dale McDowell, Shane Clanton, and Chris Ferguson across the finish line.

The upcoming weekend – June 13-15 – will find Best Performance Motorsports back on the road with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). Action opens with a $10,000-to-win feature on Thursday night at North Carolina’s Fayetteville Motor Speedway. Friday night will see the team rolling into Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) for a $12,000-to-win race before wrapping things up with a $15,000-to-win race at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee).

2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd - 3610 points (12 points behind Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 10, 2019) - Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing made the most of their recent three-race trek through the upper Midwest, not only scoring a pair of top-ten finishes during action at Fairbury Speedway and River Cities Speedway, respectively, but the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion highlighted the five-day stretch with an impressive rally from 11th to finish fourth at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., on Friday, June 7.

Kicking off the long week in the Land of Lincoln, Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car, visited Fairbury Speedway with the Greatest Show On Dirt on Tuesday, June 4, and secured a seventh place performance.

Despite ending the 40-lapper two positions shy of where he started, Schatz’ finish was a big step in the right direction, as the Fargo, North Dakota-native faded as far back as ninth during the midpoint of the event.

Unfortunately, Schatz was forced to settle with a 24th place finish at Granite City Speedway on Saturday, June 8; the result of contact with the outside retaining wall while battling inside the top-ten. A damaged bird cage after contact was the culprit.

“That’s not really how we wanted to end our weekend, but those outcomes are a rarity with this team,” Donny Schatz said regarding his Granite City visit. “Regardless, we were able to leave Fairbury and River Cities with solid finishes and that’s motivating. Now, we get to look forward to Knoxville Raceway; a track that we know our way around pretty well. We’ll do our best to rebound this weekend.”

Donny Schatz will continue his quest toward an 11th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title this Friday and Saturday, June 14 & 15, with a two-day visit to the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Schatz certainly knows his way around the Marion County Fairgrounds oval, earning ten Knoxville Nationals championships since 2006.

In addition, Schatz earned a main event victory at Knoxville Raceway during his June visit in 2018, only to finish second the following evening.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 10, 2019) - It was a busy weekend for three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and recent NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, Tony Stewart, as the Columbus, Indiana-native participated in three consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions events across much of southern New York. When the dust settled on Sunday night, Stewart accomplished a pair of top-ten performances, one of which a podium run during action at Stateline Speedway in Busti on Saturday, June 8.

Despite kicking off his weekend in the Empire State with a ‘DNF’ at Outlaw Speedway on Friday, June 7 - the result of issues within the front-end - Stewart rebounded in a big way, first earning the aforementioned podium finish on Saturday, then climbing ahead from 12th to finish eighth at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, June 9.

(June 10, 2019) - It was a weekend to remember for Rico Abreu, as the St. Helena, California-native secured three consecutive podium finishes in two days, highlighting his three-race, two-day stint at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with a Peter Murphy Classic victory on Saturday, June 8.

The King of the West-NARC Series triumph, awarding an $11,000 top prize, was the result of a combination of speed and being in the right place at the right time. Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, was actually racing in the runner-up spot during the Peter Murphy Classic finale when caution flags waved on the final circuit. Fortunately enough, the caution involved the race leader, ultimately surrendering the top spot to sixth-starting Abreu.

A green-white-checkered finish was all that Abreu needed to endure to clinch the five-figure payday.

In addition to his victory during King of the West-NARC competition, Abreu earned a pair of podium finishes during Kings of Thunder 360 Sprint Cars action at Thunderbowl Raceway on Friday and Saturday, June 7 & 8. Abreu finished third during the Faria Memorial on Friday night, followed by a runner-up finish during the Kings of Thunder portion of the Peter Murphy Classic on Saturday.

“What a weekend,” Rico Abreu explained regarding his two-day visit to Thunderbowl Raceway. “I really can’t say enough about this team. They are an amazing group to work with and they never give up. We were in a position to win all three nights and that’s really exciting. We have a lot on our plate over the next few weeks. I know the guys are ready and so am I.”

Up next on the schedule, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will tackle Ohio Sprint Speedweek with the All Star Circuit of Champions; nine races in nine days across much of the Buckeye State, visiting eight tracks in the process: Attica Raceway Park, Eldora Speedway, Muskingum County Speedway, Wayne County Speedway, Sharon Speedway, Atomic Speedway, Mansfield Motor Speedway, Limaland Motorsports Park, and Wayne County Speedway, respectively. The nine-day campaign will activate on Friday, June 14, at Attica Raceway Park.

Helping Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing chase the All Star Circuit of Champions up and down the Ohio Sprint Speedweek campaign trail is Derek Snyder, founder of Self Made Racing, as well as the Executive Manager and Partner of Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC and Pace Performance.

Creating an added level of support that will ultimately push Abreu to the peak of his potential, the St. Helena, California-native will fly the Self Made colors for the duration of Ohio Sprint Speedweek, working for not only his first All Star victory of the season, but the ultimate goal of attaining an Ohio Sprint Speedweek title.

“We are very excited to have Derek Snyder of Self Made Racing join our team for Ohio Sprint Speedweek,” Rico Abreu said. “Derek is a proud supporter of sprint car racing, as well as a devoted fan. His love for the sport is unmatched in a lot of ways and we are more than proud to represent his mission.”

“Rico Abreu is a class act and a fierce competitor,” Derek Snyder said, who also helps promote the Salute to the Troops program at BAPS Motor Speedway in August. “I’m sure he’ll represent Self Made, Sweeney and Pace Performance at the highest level. I’m excited to see how his week in Ohio unfolds.”
