Ray Cook Announces New Ride with Wynn Motorsports; Set to Debut Next Month!
(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and his own #53 team were in action on Saturday evening, May 13 at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, Georgia, as the Schaeffer's Oil Iron-Man Mountain Championship Series rolled into the Peach State. Ray clicked off the seventh quickest time during the qualifying session prior to starting the $3,000 to win headliner from the inside of the fourth row.
The Brasstown, North Carolina ace quickly moved up to fifth in the running order, but unfortunately was forced to pull pitside with a missing motor. Not wanting to hurt the powerplant, Ray opted to retire from the 30-lapper and was placed fourteenth in the final finishing order. He currently sits second in the latest version of the Iron-Man point standings, although Ray does not intend to follow the entire tour schedule. Full results from Saturday's show can be viewed online at www.blueridgemotorsportspark.com.
With action heating back up on his Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals and Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series tours in the upcoming weeks, along with at his hometown Tri-County Race Track, Ray will be focused on his promoting duties the next few weekends. However, the popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" is excited to announce that he has partnered with Dublin, Georgia-based Wynn Motorsports for the remainder of the 2017 racing season. Capital Race Cars is currently putting the finishing touches on a brand-new #53 machine, which will be powered by a new Andy Durham Ford Racing Engine.
"I'm really pumped up and excited about the opportunity with Wynn Motorsports and I can't wait to get started racing with them sometime in June hopefully," exclaimed Cook this week via telephone. "Marshall (Green) at Capital kinda put this whole deal together and when he mentioned driving for someone with a new car and new motor, I thought it sounded too good to be true. Low and behold, here we are about ready to go racing and I can't thank Marshall enough along with the entire Wynn family."
"It's no secret that with all of the stuff I have going on with all three series, the racetrack, and American Racer South, I wasn't able to keep my own racing program where it needed to be," Cook went on to say. "This will take a lot of strain off of me personally and put me back in first-class equipment, so we can go race some of these bigger shows and be competitive."
Ray and Wynn Motorsports will most likely hit the race track for the first time together sometime during the month of June. While a complete schedule has not been finalized at this time, the team expects to enter 20-25 races the rest of the year - primarily in the Southeast. A couple of crown jewel races are being considered, but the majority of shows will be regional events in the states of Georgia and Tennessee. When schedule dates are announced, you can find out first at www.RayCook53.com.
