FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Billy Rock FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wheatland, Missouri (June 24, 2020) - Following a season in which he captured Pro Late Model track titles on the asphalt at both Lebanon I-44 Speedway and Bolivar Speedway, Brennon Willard knew it was time for a change. The 36 year-old now finds himself behind the wheel of a dirt super late model for the first time, while contending for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year with the Lucas Oil MLRA. Willard piloted a dirt B-Mod for a short stint nearly ten years ago, before returning to his asphalt roots and the confines of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway which his family owns and operates. He expects the upcoming season to present its share of challenges, but is looking forward to traveling with the MLRA and being able to focus solely on his racing program. "After last season I decided I was tired of not getting to go racing and have fun, so I traded Mike Marler my asphalt late model for one of his dirt late models," commented Willard. "Being able to go race and have fun and not having to worry about running the race track side of things, like worrying if the line-ups are right or if the hot dogs are right at the concession stand is the most gratifying thing about the transition." In the weeks leading up to the start of the 2020 season, Willard made yet another move by trading his newly acquired Longhorn Chassis for a Barry Wright Race Car (BWRC). The move to the BWRC matches him to the same chassis make used by his father in the 80's and to that of his longtime friend and MLRA regular, Tony Jackson, Jr. Willard commented of Jackson, "Our set-ups are basically the same, and our crew guys go back and forth, so it's just nice being able to share knowledge. When we raced asphalt together we liked very similar race car set-ups, so I think on dirt it will be the same way eventually once I get it figured out." As Willard continues down the 2020 MLRA trail, he expresses how critical seat time will be to his progression towards the top. "With asphalt you practice for hours, but with dirt you only get a lap and a half. We're going to tracks I have never been to before, and only getting a lap and a half of practice and then having to go right out and qualify. That part is very tough." After getting acclimated to the strong caliber of competition in the series opening weekend, Willard now has his sights set on a more familiar venue, as the MLRA rolls into the Lucas Oil Speedway this Wednesday night. "I'm looking forward to Wheatland. We've at least gotten to practice there, so I've probably got about 60 laps around that place. It's going to be the first track all year that I have actually been to and driven on." With sixteen events remaining on the MLRA schedule, the driver of the Hudson Feed and Grain # 3W acknowledges the battle for the series Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie award will be uphill, yet a challenge he is ready to conquer. "I know how tough it is, and it seems like this year's field of cars in the MLRA may be the toughest it has been in recent years, so it isn't going to be easy." "I feel like the only way to learn and get better is to go race against the best and obviously we are doing that right now. I raced some of the biggest races on asphalt and got my butt kicked because I wanted to know where I stood. We may not be very good right now, but I'm going to get better every time on the race track. You have to rise up to the people around you, so that's what I'm going to make myself do," concluded Willard. The Lucas Oil MLRA will be in action tonight, June 24th at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Action will continue on Thursday at the Outlaw Motor Speedway just outside of Muskogee, OK while the weekend will wrap up at the Salina Highbanks Speedway on Friday and Saturday with the 7th Annual ARMI "Freedom Classic". FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Baughman Continues All Star Rookie of the Year Campaign with Set of Events this Weekend Lonnie Wheatley, ODESSA, Texas (June 24, 2020) – Josh Baughman continues his pursuit of All Star Circuit of Champions Rookie of the Year honors aboard the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 17 with this week’s set of events. It begins in Central Pennsylvania on Wednesday before shifting far eastern Tennessee’s high-banked Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap on Saturday and Sunday. Baughman enters the set of events sitting tenth in points after the series recent run of eight “Thunder Through the Plains” events throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana. Posting three heat race wins and racing into five Dashes along the way, Baughman’s best run of the week came at southwest Oklahoma’s Lawton Speedway where he battled to a fourth-place feature finish after starting alongside BRM teammate Aaron Reutzel in the 40-lapper. That fourth-place showing for Baughma on June 8 was sandwiched by a pair of tenth-place showings at Wichita’s 81 Speedway on June 7 and then the storied Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Dallas on June 10. After a busy spate of events that included 11 consecutive nights at a racetrack with three negated by inclement weather, Baughman and the BRM No. 17 team gear up for another busy slate that will include nine races in ten nights following this weekend’s set of three events. 2020 Quick Stats: 11 races, 1 top-five, 3 top-tens. Reutzel Lands First Knoxville Win after Pair of Thunder Through the Plains Scores – Takes All Star Points Lead into Set of Events Lonnie Wheatley, KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 24, 2020) – A frenetic month of June continues for Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team with a set of All Star Circuit of Champions events this week. Running his season win total to eight with three more triumphs in recent action, Reutzel and the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team take the series points lead into the Wednesday night’s card at central Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway and then on to Bulls Gap, Tennessee’s Volunteer Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. Reutzel goes into this weekend’s action fresh off his first career win at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night. The Knoxville triumph came after a pair of wins during the recent “Thunder Through the Plains” series of All Star events. “It was the first weekly show I’ve ever run at Knoxville,” Reutzel says of the Saturday triumph. “We were just testing some things that we want to try for Nationals. Some of the things we wanted to try worked really well and some things didn’t work as well. “We learned a lot during the night.” After starting sixth in the 20-lap feature atop the famed half-mile oval, Reutzel needed just a handful of laps to race into the lead and checked out on the field to take the checkered flag by a healthy margin. The single-race weekend served as a breather for the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team after 11 consecutive days at a racetrack during the All Star Circuit of Champions “Thunder Through the Plains” of Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana from June 4 to June 14. While three nights fell victim to inclement weather, Thunder Through the Plains proved fruitful for the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension team with a handful of quick times along the way and wins at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway on June 5 and Kilgore’s Lonestar Speedway on June 13 among a handful of top-fives and six top-tens in the eight-race set. Following a rainout in the opener, the week officially kicked off with Reutzel outdueling Kyle Larson in an instant classic at Red Dirt Raceway on Friday night, June 5. “This place is a blast to race on,” Reutzel said of the Red Dirt oval. “It was fun to race with Kyle like that, and you have to feel pretty good about it when you come out on top.” After a 12th-place showing at 81 Speedway two nights later, Reutel and Larson resumed their duel on Monday, June 8, at Lawton Speedway with Larson coming out on top and Reutzel settling for runner-up honors in the Fischer Body Shop machine. “I think I raced a little too conservatively this time and let one get away,” Reutzel said afterward. After racing 11th to post a fifth-place finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Reutzel went on a run of quick times over the last half of Thunder Through the Plains by establishing the qualifying standard over four consecutive nights at Ardmore’s Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls, TX, Kilgore’s Lonestar Speedway and Louisiana’s Chatham Speedway. After misfortune in the form of a cut left rear tire while running second at Ardmore and then lingering damage from an incident while passing for the lead in Dash action at Wichita Falls, Reutzel finally parlayed a quick-time into a dominant win at Lonestar Speedway. “I know everyone out here is working their tails off, but I can’t say enough about my guys,” Reutzel said in victory lane. “We should have won at least a couple more of these, but have just had things happen. My guys don’t give up and just keep working, it paid off tonight.” Reutzel finished off Thunder Through the Plains with a runner-up finish at Chatham, hounding eventual race-winner Dominic Sclezi over the closing laps but was unable to pull off the winning pass. “I hate to lose, but if we’re going to finish second I guess it’s okay to finish second to Dom,” Reutzel commented. Reutzel escaped the “Thunder Through the Plains” series of events with a 40-point advantage as he pursues a third consecutive series championship. “We had a good car every night out, we felt like we had a chance to win about every one of those races,” Reutzel comments. The grind through the Plains will be repeated very soon with the All Stars Ohio Sprint Speedweek including nine races over the course of ten days from July 3 to July 12. First however, the team takes aim at Port Royal Speedway and Volunteer Speedway this week. 2020 Quick Stats: 35 races, 8 wins, 19 top-fives, 25 top-tens. (June 24, 2020) - Giovanni Scelzi showcased speed in both a winged sprint car and a midget throughout four races in a six-day span. Scelzi made his debut behind the wheel of Guy Forbrook's sprint car on June 12 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, which hosted the two-day Brownells Big Guns Bash featuring the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Scelzi qualified fifth quickest out of 26 drivers in his group, placed sixth in a heat race and won the Last Chance Showdown to lock into the main event. He then charged from 21st to 14th in the feature to be tied for the third-most cars passed. "Knoxville was about getting comfortable in the race car," he said. "I think it takes time. It's a new car so everything is different. We'll get more comfortable the more we race. We had awesome speed though." Scelzi continued to be fast the following day as he timed in third quickest out of 26 drivers in his group. He was running second in a heat race when an incident ended the night early. "I was in a spot to make the dash when I got into the infield and spun," he said. "I tried to run the bottom lane and clipped the infield drain. It just bounced and backed me up into the fence." Scelzi was off for two days before joining Tucker Boat Motorsports for a pair of Indiana Midget Week races with the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets beginning a week ago Tuesday at Paragon Speedway in Paragon, Ind. Scelzi qualified eighth quickest out of 46 drivers before he maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the main event and the feature inversion placed him on the pole for the 30-lap feature. Scelzi led the first 10 laps before losing a pair of positions in traffic. He was maintaining third place until he caught the cushion wrong with nine laps to go. "We were really fast at Paragon," he said. "I was pushing too hard and hit the cushion and flipped. It's easy to do in those cars. I think we could have had a third-place run. We regrouped for a good finish on Tuesday." Scelzi also drove for the team the following night at Gas City I-69 Speedway, where he timed in 17th quickest and won a heat race to garner the eighth starting position for the A Main. He continued to progress throughout the feature and posted a fifth-place finish, which was his sixth top five of the season. "I'm glad we were able to have a good run," he said. "I struggled to get off turn two. That's where I think I got beat. I felt better in turns three and four. It was a lot of fun racing the midget again. "I want to thank Toyota and Tucker Boat Motorsports as well as Guy Forbrook for the opportunities." Scelzi returns to pavement competition the next two weekends. He will race this Saturday at Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah, during the ENEOS/Sunrise Ford Twins presented by West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame with the ARCA Menards Series West.
