McCARTER EARNS THE POLE FOR THE 29TH ANNUAL ICE BOWL AT TST

              EASTABOGA, AL – Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN earned the pole position on Saturday for the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series portion of the 29th Annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track on Sunday. McCarter earned the pole position for the $3,000-to-win race after driving the Parkway Liquors Longhorn to victory in the first Heat Race.

              The Ice Bowl is also the first race of the 3rd Annual Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series.  Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, TN is the defending and two-time Winter Shootout Series Champion and the defending Ice Bowl champion. Elliott will start on the outside front row after winning the second ten-lap Heat Race in the Car Smart Auto Sales Longhorn.

            Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, TN drove the Johns Farms Pierce to victory in the third Heat Race on Saturday and will start the Ice Bowl 40-lap Main Event on the inside of row three. Three-time Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN won the fourth ten-lap Heat Race and will start the Ice Bowl from the outside of the second row. 

The top four finishers in each heat race earned a spot in the first eight rows of the Ice Bowl. Joining McCarter by transferring out of the first Heat Race were T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL in the Brittain Hauling Warrior, Jake Rainey of Hiram, GA in the Wren’s Body Shop Capital Race Car, and Logan Palmer of Acworth, GA in the Prather Barry Wright, who finished second through fourth respectively.

Two-time Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA National Champion Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN in the Eagle Racing Engines Rocket, Joseph Brown of Columbus, GA in the Lewis Auto Sales Rocket and Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL finished second through fourth respectively behind Elliott on the second ten-lap Heat Race.

John Ownby of Cleveland, TN in the Orr Brothers Construction Kryptonite, Duke Blant of Carrollton, GA in the Blant Racing Rocket, and David Kay of Munford, AL in the Advantage Plus Excavating Longhorn followed Johns under the checkered flag in second through fourth respectively in the third ten-lap Heat Race.

Chase Walls of Decherd, TN in the Live Pure CVR, Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL in the Skinner’s Body Shop Rocket, and Victor Turner Jr. of Pell City, AL in the Advantage Plus Mobile Home Services Rocket finished second through fourth respectively behind Johnson in the fourth ten-lap Heat Race. 

Drivers that finished fifth on back in their respective Heat Races will have another opportunity to make the $3,000-to-win 29th Annual Ice Bowl by being a top four finisher in one of two 12-lap B-Main Races on Sunday before the Big Show. Skinner out-timed the 34-car field in Boyd Bilt Fabricators Qualifying with a lap around Talladega Short Track in 15.378 seconds.
