OWNBY OWNS DURRENCE LAYNE CHEVROLET DLMS NIGHT TWO AT TST EASTABOGA, AL – John Ownby of Cleveland, TN owned Night 2 of NASCAR Weekend for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track. After making several changes to his Orr Brothers Construction Kryptonite, Ownby set fast time, and then led all 50 laps of the main event to take the $2,500 win. “We were experimenting with the car last night, and it wasn’t real good, so today we came back and changed eight or ten things on it,” Ownby said. “It was good right out of the box tonight, so we just left it alone and it worked.” After winning on Friday night, Jake Knowles of Rome, GA finished second on Saturday night in the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Special after being collected in a lap 17 tangle that spoiled the handling on his race car. Knowles leaves Talladega Short Track with a two-point lead over Ownby in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings. Jake Rainey of Hiram, GA had his best finish of his young career with a third-place showing in the Wren’s Body Shop Special. The 15-year-old VP Racing Fuels Young Guns Challenge Series driver was also the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Race. David Kay of Munford, AL took the fourth spot in the Kay Racing Special, and Dylan Knowles of Lanett, AL was fifth in the K-Line Logistics Rocket. Grant Pearl of Anniston, AL finished sixth in the Pearl Racing Special, and Tyler Wood of Hohenwald, TN started 18th in the Johns Timber Special and came home seventh to earn the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Hard Charger Award, and the Fullmoon Graphics “Lucky 7” Award. T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL drove the Brittain Hauling Warrior to an eighth-place finish and Jadon Frame of Decherd, TN was ninth in the Frame Racing Rocket. Tyler Sanders of Dublin, GA rounded out the top ten in the H.C. Roland Construction Special. In preliminary action, Ownby pocketed $200 from Boyd Bilt Fabricators and Southern Addiction Outdoors for setting Fast Time among the 42 entrants with a lap around Talladega Short Track in 15.088 seconds. The four KRC B-Main Races were won by Kay, Brittain, Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL in the Skinner’s Body Shop Rocket, and Todd Morrow of Lafayette, AL in the ATM Racing Special. Ownby took the lead at the start of the race followed by Rainey, Bubba Pollard of Senoia, GA, Jake Knowles and Dylan Knowles. The first of four caution flags came out on lap three when Pollard spun the Race Car Engineering Special in turn two collecting Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS in the B&M Salvage Rocket and Andy Picklesimer of Ooltewah, TN in the Hyma Motorsports Special. The field lined up for the Dixie-Style Double-File Restart. Ownby had Rainey, Jake Knowles, Dylan Knowles, Pearl and Brittain doubled up behind him. It was the Jake and Jake show on the restart with Knowles getting by Rainey for second. Ownby pulled away followed by two Jakes and two Knowles in the order of Jake Knowles, Jake Rainey and Dylan Knowles. The yellow caution bulb was lit up on lap seven when 86-year-old legend Red Farmer of Hueytown, AL spun the Long-Lewis Ford Rocket in turn one. Farmer was the first car to retire from the race and he received the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Luck Award. The top ten for the double-file restart was Ownby, Jake Knowles, Rainey, Dylan Knowles, Pearl, Kay, Morrow, Brittain, Frame, and Wood. Ownby pulled out to a half-straightaway lead over Knowles by the time he reached the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap 12. Jake Knowles and Rainey closed in to try and challenge the leader.
