TECHNICAL BULLETIN: FUEL RULE AMENDMENT/UPDATE

ADAIRSVILLE, GA - Durrence Layne Racing/Crate Racin’ USA officials have amended/updated the Official 2019 Fuel Rules for each division competing under the Series’ banner. Series officials said these updates are effective immediately.

Series officials said the Fuel Rule amendment comes as a step in keeping the approved fuels in check from a cost standpoint, to clarify what is and is not allowed, and to avoid any performance advantages. The Fuel Rule amendment/update will have little to no effect on competitors who were already running legally with the 2019 Official Rules in each division.

“This amendment should not warrant anyone having to go and make wholesale changes to their current racing gas or E-85 program, unless they were running a fuel that had been questionable concerning its legality,” Series Director Adam Stewart said. “This amendment and update is being added now to clarify for the competitors and their suppliers what is and is not allowed, and what parameters must be met.”

The Updated Fuel Rule for the Durrence Layne Racing Divisions is as follows:

3.  GASOLINE, RACING GAS OR E-85 ALLOWED. NO METHANOL OR ALCOHOL. NO NITROUS OXIDE. NO PROPYLENE OXIDE. NO NITROETHANE OR MTBE. NO HYDRAZINE. NO ETHYLHEXANOL.
·       GASOLINE OR RACING GAS: SPECIFIC GRAVITY NOT TO EXCEED .744 at 60 DEGREES. FUEL IS SUBJECT TO TESTING ON SITE OR FUEL SAMPLES MAY BE TAKEN AND SENT TO AN INDEPENDENT LAB FOR TESTING (UPDATED 8/1/19). ANY GASOLINE OR RACING GAS WITH A SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF .745 (UPDATED 8/1/19) OR GREATER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
·       E-85: SPECIFIC GRAVITY NOT TO EXCEED .7855 AT 60 DEGREES. ANY E-85 WITH A SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF .7856 OR GREATER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. FUEL IS SUBJECT TO TESTING ON SITE OR FUEL SAMPLES MAY BE TAKEN AND SENT TO AN INDEPENDENT LAB FOR TESTING (UPDATED 8/1/19).
IT IS THE RACER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING PUT INTO THEIR FUEL CELL. SERIES RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE FUEL SAMPLES AND SEND THEM TO AN INDEPENDENT LABORATORY FOR TESTING AT ANY TIME.
            “This rule effectively allows everyone to still run what they have been using all while giving a clear answer and baseline on what is or is not allowed in competition,” Stewart said. “This will also keep competitors from investing their resources into an expensive alternative that they will not be able to use or will get them disqualified.”

            Durrence Layne Racing/Crate Racin’ USA officials will continue to take active steps to enforce the 2019 Fuel Rule with both on site and independent laboratory testing to verify the parameters in place are being met.
