DURRENCE LAYNE WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 20 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 20 of the 27-week 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season has set up the “stretch drive” for the final seven weeks to determine the National Champions in seven Divisions. The question remains as to whom will be the driver that comes from out of nowhere in the remaining weeks of the season to challenge for a title.

The complete Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 20 results for each track are listed below, and the complete point standings for each of the four Divisions have been posted at www.durrencelayneracing.com. That takes you to the Launch Page where you can click on the Divisions you’re looking for.

Durrence Layne Racing’s newest Division in the 2018 line-up, the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division, has proven to have been the most competitive with only three tracks running the Division in its inaugural season. Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN is the new Modified Sportsman point leader after hitting a net jackpot of 23 points.

Gillespie used Double Features on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL to take over the top spot. Gillespie had a 47-point fourth-place finish in the Week 3 Make-Up Race to replace a 37 from a previous finish, and then netted on a 36 with a 49-point second-place finish in the Week 20 race to bring his best 14-week total to 601 points.

Justin Angle of Anniston, AL drove to his eighth win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to net on a 38 and bring his best 14-week total to 592 points and the second spot in the Modified Sportsman standings. Andy Davis of Odenville, AL is third in the standings with a best 14-week total of 589 points. Davis finished third on Saturday night at TST.

The defending Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series National Late Model Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE finished second on Sunday night at Dawson County Speedway in Lexington, NE to reach the 14-week of his season with 671 points. That landed Leonard into a tie for the seventh spot in the National point standings with Seth McCormack of Muscle Shoals, AL.
In the “coming out of nowhere” category, Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS will be a name to remember in the coming weeks. Ellis took his 11th win in his 12th week of competition on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. That put Ellis in the 19th spot in the Late Model standings with 597 points, and he still has two more weeks to earn full points.
Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS has already hit the “Perfect Season” mark of 700 points represented by 14 50-point wins and sit on top of the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings. Idom finished third on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway, and he will continue to wait and see if anyone can join him with a perfect 700 points.
