DURRENCE LAYNE CHEVROLET MODIFIED SPORTSMAN DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

              ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Week 23 of the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series saw five Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman races on the schedule over three days. It all started on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL when Chuckie Gipson of Tuscumbia, AL took the win in the Week 22 Make-Up Race driving the Service One Transport Special.

              Bradley Qualls of Pleasantville, TN picked up his eighth win of the season in the Week 1 Make-Up Race at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN on Friday night driving the Isabell Construction Special. 

            Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman point leader Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL drove the Morgan Machine Special to his 11th win of the season on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway. Chris Hickerson took the Saturday night win at Thunderhill Raceway, and Michael Blakeney topped a 21-car field to win on Sunday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, TN.
           
            Luke Riddle leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division point standings with a best 14-week total of 694 points. Riddle was able to net on a 48 with his Week 23 win. Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN is second with a best 14-week total of 691 points. Gillespie was unable to net on a 48 after a pair of Week 23 third-place finishes.
           
            With his win in the Week 22 Make-Up Race to net on a 42, and a fourth-place finish in the Week 23 race at North Alabama Speedway on Saturday night to net on a 42, moved Gipson up to the third spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings. Gipson now has a best 14-week total of 647 points.
           
            Tracy Terrell of Russellville, AL is fourth in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 645 points. Terrell used a second-place finish on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in the Week 22 Make-Up Race to net on a 25, and then finished sixth on Saturday night at NAS to net on a 39 to climb from seventh to fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings.
           
            Blake Cross of Centerville, TN rounds out the Top 5 in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 639 points. Cross used an eighth-place finish in the Week 1 Make-Up Race on Friday night at Thunderhill Raceway to net on a 39.
           
            Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.
           
            A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.
           
            The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

DURRENCE LAYNE CHEVROLET LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

              ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division point leader Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL used two wins in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition to bring his season closer to a Perfect Season that has a best 14-week total of 700 points. Mitchell needs two more 50-point wins to pull it off.

              The point leader drove the Sparks Energy Rocket to a Week 22 Make-Up Race win on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL to net on a 47, and Mitchell followed that up with the Week 23 Race win at NAS on Saturday night to net on a 48. 

            Mitchell has a best 14-week total of 697 points, and in the last six weeks of the season, he has to net on a 48 and a 49 to reach 700 points. Several drivers still have a mathematical chance to win the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National Championship after Week 23 competition, but the coming weeks will bring the title hunt into better focus with Double Features/Make-Up Races coming into play.
           
            Cruz Wallace of Tuscumbia, AL is second in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 672 points. Wallace finished fifth on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway to net on a 45.

              Donovan Henry is third in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 669 points. Henry finished third in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Week 22 Make-Up Race on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway to net on a 41. Henry finished eighth at NAS on Saturday night to net on a 41. 

            Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 668 points. Ray finished sixth on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway to net on a 44 and earn one point.
           
            Doodle Lowe of Warrior, AL raced his way into the Top 5 of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National point standings in his last week to earn full points. Lowe went from 11th to fifth in the standings with a 50-point win on Saturday night at ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL. Lowe now has a 14-week total of 666 points.

            In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Week 23 action, Trey Rickman of Columbus, MS drove the Rickman Brothers Trucking Special to victory on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. Tyler Burgess of Olive Branch, MS topped a 35-car field on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the Burgess Outdoor Power Rocket.
           
            Colton Leyendecker of Holt, FL drove the CJL Construction Special to victory on Sunday night in the Week 11 Make-Up Race at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL. Ryan King of Anniston, AL won the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the David King Automotive Special.
           
            King’s engine was protested and impounded until Durrence Layne Racing Technical Director Thomas McReynolds could inspect it on Tuesday. McReynolds found the engine to be legal, and King was officially declared the winner. King could be a driver to watch in the coming weeks, as he is 13th in the National points with 627 points, and he has one more week to earn full points.

DURRENCE LAYNE PERFORMANCE PARTS STREET STOCK DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

              ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Mike Lane of Wing, AL took another big step towards the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division National Championship with two wins in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition. The two wins kept Lane on top of the Street Stock points chase with a best 14-week total of 695 points, five short of a 700-point Perfect Season.

            Lane took the Week 23 win on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL driving the Lane Racing Special to net on a 46. Lane followed that up with a Week 11 Make-Up Race win at the Florida Panhandle track on Sunday night to net on a 48.
           
            Jason Baker of Addison, AL is still in the title hunt, as he has a best 14-week total of 691 points. Baker netted on a 43 after a second-place finish on Saturday night at ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL. Over the remaining six weeks of the 2019 season, the road to 700 points has Lane having to net on a 48, and three 49s. Baker is looking at trying to net on a 47, a 48, and four 49s to reach 700 points.
           
            Hayden Moran of Covington, LA and Eddie Rhinehart of Lawrenceburg, TN are tied for the third spot in the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14-week total of 685 points. Moran took the Week 23 win on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the We Buy Junk Cars Special to net on a 45.
           
            Rhinehart used his final week to earn full points to earn 39 points with a second-place finish in the Week 1 Make-Up Race at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN. Rhinehart then had a Week 23 third-place run on Sunday night at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN to net on the 39 he earned on Friday night. 
           
            Both Moran and Rhinehart will need help with Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division Double Feature/Make-Up Races over the next six weeks to have a chance to reach the 700-point Perfect Season mark.
           
            Jeremy Eaton of Wiggins, MS rounds out the top five of the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14-week total of 681 points. Eaton had a third-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS to net on a 42, and then finished second on Sunday night at Southern Raceway to net on a 45.

            Kash Wilson of Petal, MS took a 40-point win on Friday night in the Week 22 Make-Up Race at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL driving the B&K Contracting Special. T.J. Herndon of Atwood, TN took a 40-point win at Thunderhill Raceway on Friday night in the Week 1 Make-Up Race driving the Race Tek Race Cars Special.
           
            Herndon came back on Saturday night to take a 50-point win at ECM Speedway, and David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN drove the WB Motorsports Special to a 40-point win on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway. Will Nolen of Pitkin, LA was the winner on Saturday night in the Week 6 Make-Up Race at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, LA driving the Nolen Logging Special.
           
            Herndon showed why he’s the defending Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock World Champion, as he scored the Week 23 Hat Trick with his third win in as many nights with a Sunday night victory at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN. Herndon has climbed to the seventh spot in the National standings, and could be a driver to watch in the closing weeks of the season.
           
            Lee Ray of Columbus, MS was the winner on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the Glenn’s BBQ Special. Nolen took the Week 23 Race on Sunday night at Thunder Valley Speedway.

DURRENCE LAYNE CHEVROLET LATE MODEL DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

              ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS sent a message to all Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division competitors in the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series that he is the man to beat for the $10,000 National Championship. The General drove the Billy Riels Racing Special to three wins in the Week 23 action.

              Lee leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings with a best 14-week total of 694 points, six points away from a 700-point Perfect Season. Lee started off Week 23 competition with a win on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS to net on a 47.

              The next stop for Lee was on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. Lee took his second win of the weekend in the Week 22 Make-Up Race to net on a 48. The third win was the Week 23 Race. Lee has one more 48 to net on, then it’s four 49s to get him to 700 points with six weeks left, not counting any further Double Feature or Make-Up Features, in the 2019 season.

              Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS and Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL started off Week 23 in a tie for the second spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings. Scarbrough broke the tie with a pair of second-place finishes on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. Scarbrough netted on a 45 in the Week 22 Make-Up Race, and on a 47 in the Week 23 Race.

              Scarbrough now has a best 14-week total of 686 points. Mitchell did not compete in Week 23 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series action and dropped to the third spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 680 points.

              Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS made the best of Week 23 and its plethora of Make-Up Features with a pair of wins over the weekend at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Russell won the Week 22 Make-Up Race at NAS on Friday night in the Steele’s Dive Special to net on a 41, and then won the Week 23 Race on Saturday night to net on a 44. 

            Russell’s best 14-week total is now 678 points to move into the fourth spot of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings. Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS rounds out the top five in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 673 points. Cameron used a second-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to net on a 43.
           
            Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.
           
            A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.
           
            The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy, with the National Champion pocketing $10,000.
           
            In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division Week 23 action, Mark Fields of Lawrenceburg, TN drove the Heritage Automotive Rocket to victory on Friday night in the Week 1 Make-Up Race at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN. Dusty Leonard of Marysville, KS was the winner on Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS in the Leonard Racing Rocket.
           
            Tyler Wood of Hohenwald, TN took the win on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway in the Johns Farms Special. Chase Walls of Decherd, TN drove the Live Pure CVR to victory on Sunday night in Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division action at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN.
           
            Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL was the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division winner on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. Cruz Skinner was the winner on Sunday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Skinner’s Body Shop Special.
