DURRENCE LAYNE CHEVROLET LATE MODEL DIVISION WEEK 28 ROUND UP

ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Week 28 of the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division season for the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series was a light one with three races on the Saturday night schedule. Southern Raceway in Milton, FL and Camden Speedway in Camden, TN got their events in, while the race scheduled for Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL was rained out.

Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL took the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win on Saturday night at Southern Raceway driving the Cole Services Special. Adam Ray of Smithland, KY drove the Three Rivers Boat and Barge Rocket to a 40-point win on Saturday night at Camden Speedway.

The 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National Champion Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS was in action for Week 28 competition. Lee has a best 14-week total of 699 points, so he traveled to Southern Raceway looking for that one more win to net on a 49 and give him a 700-point perfect season. Lee came up short with a third-place finish.

Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL is second in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division standings with a best 14-week total of 691 points. Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS and Sid Scarbrough of Florence, AL are tied for the third spot, each with a best 14-total of 688 points.

Mitchell and Russell competed with the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour on Friday and Saturday nights in the 3rd Annual King of the Crates Race at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Scarbrough did not compete in Week 28 action, nor did the fifth-place driver Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS, who has a best 14-week total of 685 points.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy, with the National Champion Shannon Lee pocketing $10,000.
