DURRENCE LAYNE RACING FAMILY MOURNS THE LOSS OF JOEY HUSS 1963-2018

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Durrence Layne Racing family of officials, sponsors, competitors, track owners/promoters, and fans are mourning loss of Joey Huss, 55, of Flomaton, AL, whose body was recovered on Saturday after being lost in a flash flood in Junction, TX. Mr. Huss was the father of Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model competitor Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL.

Joey Huss was the patriarch of a racing family that has been involved with the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Division since the series’ inception in 2005. Mr. Huss was a driving force in working with the series to bring affordable dirt late model racing to Southwest Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.

“Joey Huss and his son Josh have been a supporter of the Durrence Layne Late Models since we started in 2005, and we always enjoyed having them race with us,” Durrence Layne Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn said. “Joey and I had a mutual respect for each other. Even though we were close in age, Joey always called me Mr. Vaughn. This is such a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with Josh, Joey’s wife Darlene, and the rest of the family.”

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home in Brewton, AL with Rev. Dorsey McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Craver's Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.craversfh.com.
