JOHNSON TAKES THE POLE FOR THE 3RD ANNUAL STREET STOCK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

              COCHRAN, GA – Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN earned the pole position on Saturday night for Sunday afternoon’s $5,000-to-win 3rd Annual Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock World Championship Race driving the Race Tek/Durrence Layne Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Monte Carlo. Johnson was the fast qualifier and won the first ten-lap heat race to earn the inside front row starting spot.

              Johnson is fresh off his Ice Bowl win last Sunday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL in his first-time sitting behind the wheel of a Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock race car. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee picked up where is left off in qualifying on Saturday night with a lap around Cochran Motor Speedway in 17.576 seconds.

              That earned Johnson the pole position for the first of three ten-lap heat races, and he won that to earn the pole for the Big Show. T.J. Herndon of Atwood, TN won the second heat and will start his Race Tek/Dale’s Recycling Special on the outside of the front row for the main event. Local favorite Wil Herrington of Cochran, GA won the third heat in the Childs Racing Special to earn the inside second row starting spot for the 3rd Annual World Championship Race.

              The top six finishers in each heat race transferred into the main event. Second-place finishers in the three heats were Tyler Love of Lancaster, SC, Spencer Hughes of Meridian, MS, and Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL. The third-place finishers were Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL, Tyler Turvin of Ochlocknee, GA, and Kyle Livingood of Bristol, GA.

              The three fourth-place finishers in the three heat races were Michael Stalnaker of Ocala, FL, David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ricky Greene of Inman, SC. Fifth-place finishers were Ben Watkins of Kershaw, SC, Shawn Washam of Nahunta, GA, and the defending Street Stock World Champion Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS. Sixth-place finishers were Brian Wooten of Brunswick, GA, Bud Chancey of Yulee, FL and Jason Price of Pelham, AL.

              Drivers that finished seventh on back in their respective heat races on Saturday will have one final chance to make the $5,000-to-win 50-lap 3rd Annual Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock World Championship Race in a ten-lap B-Main Race that will be run before the main event on Sunday afternoon. The top six finishers in the B-Main will fill in starting spots 19 through 24 in the main event.
