Bayston Captures First Sprint Car Win

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (Apr. 17, 2017) – The Lebanon, Indiana native, and former USAC National Midget Rookie of the Year, Spencer Bayston would find himself in victory lane for the first time in a winged sprint car. Coming off a strong third place showing the previous night, Bayston would wheel the Kevin Swindell owned/Premier Truck Group/John Christner Trucking/ Swindell SpeedLab No.39 to victory lane at Attica Raceway Park during the Arctic Cat Allstar Circuit of Champions event on Saturday night.

“What a start to the season,” exclaimed Bayston. “Our speed really showed the effort that both Kevin and Jordan have put into this program through the offseason. The end of last year we sort of just threw it all together quickly just so we could run a handful of races. So far the beginning of this year we have showed a lot of speed and hopefully it is a good sign for how the remainder of the season will look.”

With a meager 15-winged sprint car starts under his belt, Bayston would charge from a 7th place starting position to 2nd by lap 11. Inheriting the lead on lap 15, after current leader Carson Macedo slowed to a stop on the front stretch, Bayston would hold off a stout field of Allstar regulars. A four second lead in traffic was quickly diminished as a late race caution flag would fly. With traffic no longer a concern, Bayston would make the final 7 circuits and bag a $5,000 pay day over Cole Duncan and Tim Shaffer.

“As soon as we rolled the car out of the trailer this weekend we were fast,” Bayston said. “For my first time being there, Kevin had the car set just right which allowed me to get comfortable much quicker. Night two it was much more slick than the night before but we adjusted accordingly. Knowing we were starting 7th, I think we would have been thrilled with a top 3, but when we took the green I knew we had a winning car. I was able to work the middle in turns 1 and 2 better than most of them and was able to work my way through to the front. We got out front and I was able to just cruise and pick up our first win together.”

Bayston will return to asphalt this weekend, April 22nd, piloting the Bond Suss Racing No. 55 Super Late Model at Orange County Speedway in North Carolina with CARS Tour.

Spencer Bayston would like to thank the following sponsors: Keith Kunz Motorsports, Toyota Racing, Bullet by Spike Chassis, Curb Records, Simpson Race Products, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems.

Swindell Speedlab would like to thank the following sponsors: John Christner Trucking, Mike Curb and Curb Records, MPI Steering Wheels, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Arai Helmets, Racing Optics, Maxim Chassis, DMI, Hoosier Racing Tires, Sweet Manufacturing, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kenny’s Components, High Performance Lubricants.

Swindell Scores Ninth-Place Finish in Missouri With ASCS National Tour

Inside Line Promotions - SEDALIA, Mo. (April 17, 2017) - Sammy Swindell posted his third top 10 of the season last Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Swindell, who was driving for A.G. Rains, opened the night by starting at the back of a heat race following a high pill draw.

"When you draw the biggest pill you're at a disadvantage for sure with this series," he said. "It put us in a hole. We moved up every time we were on the track, but it was a lot to overcome."

Swindell charged from ninth to fifth place in a heat race.

"We were able to get a row on the start and got through a couple more, but the race track didn't have a very wide groove to run on," he said. "You had to fall in line and wait for someone to make a mistake. I felt like I was there (for fourth place), but we were running right around the bottom. Once everyone gets going and gets lined out it gets really hard to pass."

The heat race result lined Swindell up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

"On the first start I was able to get a few cars, three or four right on the start," he said. "That was called back because someone spun in turns one and two. The next time the holes weren't there to get those cars. I tried to get what I could get. It seemed like we were all running the same speed."

Swindell picked up a handful of positions to score a ninth-place result.

He and Rains are scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA and ASCS Red River Region.

Swindell captured six wins at the track between 1980 and 1991 during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition.

Sides Takes Three Top 10s in Texas to Keep Top-10 Streak Rolling

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (April 17, 2017) - Jason Sides is racing as well as he has in several years.

Sides recorded a trio of top 10s last weekend in Texas to give him eight consecutive top-10 finishes, which is his best stretch since earning nine straight top 10s in August and September of 2010.

"It's definitely picked up," he said. "It's been getting better and I'm not sure what to change. A key part is having the confidence to keep doing what you're doing and not change anything when everything is right."

Last weekend's action began on Thursday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for the Gator Bash.

"I'd never been to Willis," he said. "The track was kind of small and they had it kind of wet. It had a top and a bottom so to qualify you could run in anywhere and have grip. I did spin the tires a little down the back straightaway because it had a little red sand in it."

Sides qualified fourth quickest overall, which started him on the outside of the front row for a heat race. He finished second in the heat race to lock into the dash, where he advanced from third to win.

"The inside took off and I got by Paul McMahan for second," he said. "There was some good stuff off the bottom and I got by Kasey (Kahne) to win the dash.

"We started out pretty decent and led a few laps in the feature. We got into traffic and I started moving around. I went a little wide and started running the top in turns three and four. McMahan got by. Me and Kasey were back and forth for second. (David) Gravel got around the both of us at the same time. The track was really slick off turn four. We made a few changes on a late red flag and got it better. We got back by McMahan on the restart, but he got back underneath us."

Sides led the first 13 laps of the 40-lap race before he ended third, which marked his first podium finish of the season and his third consecutive top-five result.

The team then ventured to Devil's Bowl Speedway for the Texas Outlaw Nationals, which began on Friday. Sides qualified second quickest, won a heat race and placed second in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"I was hoping we'd get to traffic because Jason (Johnson) was really good in clean air," he said. "I was really wanting to get to traffic. About the time we did that we'd have a caution and then it'd get strung out again. (Brad) Sweet was really good on the bottom. We had gear in it to run the top. When we'd try to run the bottom we'd slide across the bottom and Sweet went underneath us once when that happened.

"Later in the race Logan (Schuchart) got underneath us off turn four and we were going to run fourth. I saw the flags and ran into turn one and let out of the gas thinking the race was over. I guess it was the white flag and not the checkered flag. I purely messed up. That was the one and only time it's happened and it will never happen again."

Sides crossed the finish line in eighth after letting up on the finale lap thinking the race was over.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Sides set quick time before he ended third in a heat race. That started him on the inside of the fourth row in the main event.

"We were still a little tight," he said. "We had a lot more gear to run the bottom. We raced with (Brent) Marks and Johnson late in the race and ended up finishing around where we started. It was one of those races where if you had track position you could be good up front."

Sides placed eighth for the second straight night.

He is slated to return to action this Friday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Spring Classic with the World of Outlaws.
