(April 6, 2021) - Derek Hagar earned a runner-up result during his sprint car season debut as well as a pair of top 10s behind the wheel of a midget last weekend at Riverside International Speedway, which hosted the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Hometown Challenge. "It was an all right weekend," Hagar said. "I was pleased with the results. It was certainly a hectic weekend, but we made the best of it." "We started second in the heat race and led it the distance to win," he said. "That put us starting second in the feature. We ran second for a majority of the race. About halfway through I was better in traffic than the leader. I got by him, but the caution came out before we completed a lap. We didn't get back in traffic the rest of the way." Hagar also enjoyed his time wheeling a midget for Shawn Wood. A third-place heat race result on Friday lined Hagar up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event. "We had a battery cable come loose so we didn't finish the feature," he said. "We had to go to the back a couple of times because the brake pedal fell off. We came from the back and we were up to sixth. I hit the brakes going to the bottom of turn one. Everything is so tight it pulled the connector loose on the battery so we didn't get to finish." Hagar was credited with a ninth-place result. He won the dash and finished second in a heat race on Saturday. That gave Hagar the fourth starting position for the main event. "We were running fifth and got roughed up," he said. "We had to restart at the back and we got through there to finish seventh. It was a good rebound." Hagar plans to return to sprint car competition this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. QUICK RESULTS - April 2 - Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. (April 6, 2021) - Paxton Gregory rallied to overcome an early problem last Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway, which hosted the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Hometown Challenge. The 21-year-old had a promising run going early as he started fifth in his heat race and moved up a handful of positions before the driveline on his No. 3 Paxton Gregory Racing 360ci sprint car let go and relegated him to an eighth-place finish. His team made repairs and got him back on track in time to start seventh in the B Main. Gregory advanced to fifth and earned the final transfer spot into the A Main. In the feature, Gregory started in the 20th position and gained six positions by the time the checkered flag was waved to finish 14th. The half-dozen positions gained were the second most of any driver in the main event. "We had a strong outing overall," he said. "Considering we broke in our heat race, we did a nice job to rebound and still put together some fast laps. It was tough to pass so track position was key. I think we could have had a better finish had we started closer to the front, but it was a good night for us overall." Gregory is turning his focus to the quarter-mile clay oval of Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., this Saturday when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour visits for the first time in approximately 20 years. The race is also sanctioned with the ASCS Mid-South Region. "I've never been there before so I've been watching some YouTube videos to help get prepared," he said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge." QUICK RESULTS - April 3 - Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. - Heat race: 8 (5); B Main: 5 (7); Feature: 14 (20). (April 6, 2021) - Alex Hill fought a tricky track surface throughout a doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway with the ASCS Sooner Region and ASCS Warrior Region last weekend. "Our weekend was okay," she said. "The track was kind of tough to race on. It was slick and difficult to pass for me, but we all raced on the same track." Hill's weekend began with a solid run in her heat race on Friday night. "We were fast in the heat race," she said. "We started fourth and ran second most of the race until Seth Bergman got by me and we finished third." Her heat race finish placed the Hill's Racing Team driver 12th on the A Main starting grid. "I ran the bottom for a while during the feature until that went away and then moved to the top of the track," she said. "I may have dropped back a couple of spots when I spun out and got hit by another car. That damaged the front end and ended our night." An undesirable start to her heat race on Saturday night placed Hill in a position she wasn't able to overcome the rest of the evening. "I just had a poor start in my heat race and lost some positions right away," said Hill, who started third and finished sixth, placing her in the eighth starting spot in the B Main. "We had a pretty good car in the B Main. I ran some good laps around the top, so it was nice to feel comfortable running there. The field got kind of strung out right away and there wasn't much passing. I thought I was running in sixth in the final transfer spot, but it turned out I was seventh and missed the A Main by one spot so that was frustrating." Next up for Hill will be her first visit to Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., on Saturday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. "Boothill will be another new track for me," she said. "Hopefully the weather cooperates and we'll be able to race." QUICK RESULTS - April 2 - Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. - Heat race: 3 (4); Feature: 20 (12). (April 6, 2021) - Gunner Ramey kicked off the 2021 racing season on solid ground last weekend with a pair of races behind the wheel of the No. 21 Terry Doogs Racing 360ci winged sprint car. The 18-year-old returned to the driver's seat at Lake Ozark Speedway, which hosted the LOS Spring Nationals on Friday and Saturday. Ramey garnered results of eighth and 13th, respectively, in the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Sooner Region co-sanctioned event. It began on Friday with a run from fourth to second place in a heat race. That earned enough points to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main. "Friday night was a good first night for us," he said. "We started eighth and pretty much stayed there the entire race. It was a rough track, but overall a good night to start the season with." On Saturday night Ramey advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race and from third to second place in the B Main. It was good enough to start 16th in the A Main. He gained a trio of positions to finish 13 th for his second straight top-15 performance of the weekend. "At the end of the weekend our team was able to roll the car back in the box in one piece, which is better than a lot of the teams could say," he said. "We made some good laps and built our notebook. At the same time it was just really good to get back into the groove." Ramey is slated to take this weekend off before resuming competition on April 16 at 300 Raceway in Farley, Iowa, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. (April 6, 2021) - Tucker Boulton is pleased with his first official 360ci winged sprint car outing. Boulton stepped up from the 305ci sprint car ranks and entered an event last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway with only a handful of practice laps in the new division. Saturday proved to be a confidence booster. "It went well," he said. "The car felt really good and the motor is strong. I'm happy we went straight to the feature through the heat race." A high pill draw didn't deter Boulton at the start of the night. He advanced from eighth to fifth place in a heat race, which earned him the 11 th-most points. That locked Boulton into the 11th starting position in the A Main. "It was a good experience to be at our home track to shake down this car," he said. "The track conditions were tough. I was up to eighth at one point. The car went away and we lost some positions, but it ended up coming back at the end." Boulton battled for a top 10 throughout the feature before ending 11 th. He plans on returning to action this Saturday at either Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and ASCS Mid-South Region or at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. "I feel like I have a better understanding of the power of the 360 now and I'm thrilled to go race with some experience now," he said.
