Hafertepe Continues Building Momentum With Creek County Victory

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (May 25, 2018) Grabbing his third victory of the season, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. continues to gain momentum in the Hills Racing Team No. 15h with his latest triumph coming with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products this past Friday at Creek County Speedway.

Sam's 14th career win with the ASCS Red River Region, his night started on the right foot with a Heat Race win; putting him in the redraw, where he would come out with the second starting spot. Winning the race into the first two turns, Sam would lead start to finish at the quarter-mile oval, despite challenges from Matt Covington and Wayne Johnson.

"Getting to start at the front helped a bunch. We had a good enough car that I really think we could have started further back and got to the front, but again, just like the Heat, getting the track position like we did, we were just able to pull away," commented Sam, despite describing the car as being tight as track officials worked the surface prior to the feature.

"The whole night just worked really well for us and we learned a lot of what we set out to learn and made the changes we needed too in order to get the car where we wanted it."

While the weather will dictate where Sam races this coming weekend, the plan at this point is Lake Ozark Speedway with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps.

"We've got great sponsors in Missouri who have been with me for a long time, so getting the chance to go race with them, it means a lot. Not only do they support my team, but they're great friends of mine as well, so I'm looking forward to it."

Skylar Gee Enjoys Solid Weekend With Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert - PRINCETON, Minn. (May 25, 2018) Working in two nights with the UMSS, Skylar Gee's weekend included his first victory of the 2018 season in the Billy Anderson Memorial at Princeton Speedway, followed by a runner-up showing at Cedar Lake Speedway.

While the rain claimed the A-Feature at Princeton, the win was awarded to Skylar as his Dash win would have put him on the pole of the feature.

"That was probably the best paying six laps of my career," chuckled Gee who picked up a combined $1,800 between the A-Feature payout and dash win. "That was my first time at the track and it was awesome. I just have to say we're thankful for the track and series paying everyone they way they did. Very much a class act."

Finding the rubber first at Cedar Lake Speedway the following night, Gee shot to the lead under Thomas Kennedy on Lap 6, but an issue on the left front three laps later would cause Gee to relinquish the lead. Falling to third, Gee would eventually make it back around BDS Motorsports team-mate, Robbie Price, for second.

"The car was great. We led there and all the sudden the left front started shaking really bad and that made me bounce up the track and let Thomas and Robbie by. I ran a few laps and the car just kept getting worse, and I finally did get it going again and got back to second. Once we pulled in, we figured out the shock pin in the axle snapped off so was racing without the left front shock. I feel like if that hadn't happened, we definitely had the car to beat.

With a huge boost in confidence, Gee is excited to get back in the car this weekend at the Jackson Motorplex on Friday and Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.

"I needed this. We haven't been where we thought we'd be this time of year points wise and racing wise. We haven't really been racing in the top-ten a whole lot, so this past weekend really helped. We didn't have to worry about anything and it gave me a chance to clear my head so I'm just ready to get back in the car and see what we can do at Jackson and Knoxville."
