Hagar Seeking Third Consecutive Hooker Hood Classic Triumph

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (May 10, 2017) - Derek Hagar is aiming for his third consecutive Hooker Hood Classic victory this Saturday when Riverside International Speedway hosts the marquee event.

Hagar has captured the event title each of the last two seasons at the bullring in West Memphis, Ark., where he has been unable to race so far this year.

"The weather hasn't been very good and there's been a lot of flooding around here," he said. "It's a pretty prestigious race. Hooker Hood is a legend around here. He used to drive for my grandfather. To have two trophies sitting on the shelf is pretty special."

Hagar has multiple wins at the quarter-mile track during each of the last three seasons.

"Just keeping our nose clean is the biggest thing," he said. "We need to go out there and execute. We usually do well on the special shows at Riverside so hopefully that trend will continue this weekend."

Hagar, who is riding a streak of five consecutive top-five finishes, was slated to compete last Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., where he was planning on driving his winged sprint car during the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region action and his midget during the POWRi National Midget Series competition.

"The flooding had everything jacked up and we didn't want to chance it," he said. "Most of the roads were blocked and we didn't want to risk getting stuck or possibly not being able to get home if we made it down there."
