Justin Duty Wins in Willamette Thriller

Mulino, Oregon (09/27/17) – Not even a challenge to start on the tail of the field could keep Justin Duty out of Victory Lane on Saturday night. The Oregon racer piloted his Don Frank Floors #15 Rocket Chassis/ Clements by Carbaugh Super Late Model to the win on Saturday night at Willamette Speedway.

“This win couldn’t have come at a better time because I’ve really been struggling this year,” Duty said. “When you struggle this bad you really start to question your abilities. However, this win gives us a huge confidence boost. To win from the tail makes it even more special.”

Justin Duty traveled to Willamette Speedway (Lebanon, Oregon) on Saturday night, competing in a field of 17 Super Late Models. After timing in fourth fastest in qualifying, Duty landed a second-place finish in his heat behind Darren Coffell, sending him into the 6-lap Dash. Posting a fourth-place finish, Justin earned the fourth-starting position for the main event.

However, the track offered Duty a $700 bonus if he could win from the tail of the field. As a result, he forfeited his second-row starting spot and went to the back.

Duty methodically worked his way forward in the pack, reeling in his second win of the season, Justin Duty outran Joey Tanner, Collen Winebarger, Darren Coffell, and Jeremy Shank in the 40-lapper to capture the $1,000 payday. He also received the $700 bonus for his thrilling performance.

Kevin Swindell Racing and Bayston Produce Podium Finish at LaSalle Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LaSALLE, Ill. (Sept. 26, 2017) - Kevin Swindell Racing scored a podium finish last Sunday during the Bill Waite Jr. Memorial at LaSalle Speedway.

Spencer Bayston guided the Swindell Speed Lab sponsored team to the eighth quickest lap during qualifying before a fourth-place finish in a heat race earned a spot in the feature redraw. The team pulled the No. 7 to start the IRA Sprint Car Series A Main on the inside of the fourth row.

"We got the car better for the feature and we were definitely a top-three car," Bayston said. "Battling with traffic didn't fall into my favor. They were around the bottom and you really had to work to pass people when you had an opening."

Bayston advanced into third place near the midpoint of the race when a caution came out. Officials had a mix-up with the lineup and put a car ahead of Bayston for the restart, which lined him up fourth.

"The restart order was out of whack and set us back," he said. "Instead of getting to second right away I got to third and that changed the second half of the race battling (Brad) Loyet and trying to get to the leader."

The team finished third, which was its ninth top five of the season.

The weekend began on Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"The better motor I have is back at Rider right now," Swindell said. "We knew we'd be behind. As slick as Eldora has been this season we thought it'd be ok. It turned out to be pretty sticky. I think that's about all we had in qualifying. The lap looked good. We just didn't make the speed."

Bayston timed in 15th quickest in his group, placed eighth in a heat race and ended seventh in the Last Chance Showdown.

"We went mostly to get him acquainted at Eldora in sprint car speed so when he raced Saturday in the midget it would be like a night at the local go-kart track," Swindell said.

The plan worked as Bayston recorded his first career feature victory at Eldora Speedway on Saturday during the midget portion of the Four Crown Nationals.

"It was helpful coming into the midget because of the high speed," Bayston said. "It made it feel like slow motion. It really helped come Saturday night."

Hagar Extends Top-10 Streak at Hockett/McMillin Memorial

Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 26, 2017) - Derek Hagar continued his streak of top-10 finishes during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial last weekend.

Hagar earned his sixth straight top 10 during the seventh edition of the marquee Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event hosted by Lucas Oil Speedway.

"The weekend started out rough," he said. "We had a rear end break in hot laps on Thursday night. We had to hurry up and change it. Then as soon as we took off I didn't have brakes so I had to run the heat with no brakes."

Hagar overcame the early problems to advance from fourth to third place in a heat race before he won a qualifier, which locked him into the fifth starting position for the A Main.

"I had a good car in the feature, but the way things worked out with traffic and cautions it didn't play in our hands," he said. "It was a good finish, but not what we hoped for."

Hagar battled for a top five throughout the event before ending sixth.

Friday also started rough for Hagar, who dropped from the pole to a fifth-place finish in a heat race.

"I had a good pill draw, but I spun the tires on the start," he said. "We just couldn't seem to get going. We fell back a pretty good bit."

He then advanced from 10th to eighth place in a qualifier before rallying from sixth to third place in a B Main, which was one position shy of transferring into the main event.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Hagar finishing second in a qualifier to lock into the 14th starting position for the $10,000-to-win A Main.

"We got up to sixth or seventh and the race track was around the rim," he said. "The guys in front of us were throwing some dirty slide jobs. We got caught up in some of it and ended up finishing 10th."

Hagar has earned a top 10 during the event finale each year he has competed in it after not racing at the inaugural event in 2011.

Hagar will return to competition this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the Ralph Henson Memorial with the ASCS Mid-South Region. He has a victory and three top fives in three starts at the track this season.

Sides Excited to Tackle National Open at Williams Grove This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - SARVER, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2017) - Jason Sides is looking forward to the huge opportunity for a big payday.

Sides will head to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., this Thursday through Saturday for the $50,000-to-win National Open with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"I think there's always extra excitement whenever there is a lot of money up for grabs," he said. "Williams Grove is a tricky track. It's very technical and can be hard to pass on so it's critical that we qualify well and put ourselves in a position to win."

Sides has had success at the half-mile oval, where he claimed the prestigious Morgan Cup in 2011. He finished 10th during the National Open last season.

"Central Pennsylvania is a tough region to race in because the locals are so good and we don't get to the tracks more than a few times per season," he said. "The first step is qualifying well and then making it through the heat race. If you can do both those things you're a contender."

Sides is coming off a disappointing weekend that began last Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown. He qualified ninth quickest in his group and placed fifth in a heat race to lock directly into the main event.

Sides ended where he started - 18th - and he wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Lernerville Speedway for the Commonwealth Clash. He timed in 21st quickest and placed seventh in a heat race. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, which he won to transfer into the main event. Unfortunately, Sides was involved in an early crash that resulted in a DNF.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sept. 22 - Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio - Qualifying: 9; Heat race: 5 (5); Feature: 18 (18).

Sept. 23 - Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. - Qualifying: 21; Heat race: 7 (7); B Main: 1 (4); Feature: 25 (19).

"We don't have the speed we need right now," he said. "We were just behind all weekend and I believe no matter where you start you should be able to pick your way through the field."

Bergman maneuvered from eighth to fifth place in a heat race last Thursday during the opening night of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Lucas Oil Speedway. That lined him up on the pole of a qualifier, but a third-place finish relegated him to a B Main. He won the consolation race to advance into the 19th starting position in the main event.
