Hagar Holds High Expectations Entering Short Track Nationals at I-30

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (Oct. 10, 2017) - Derek Hagar has won a lot of big races during his career, but there is one marquee event at his home track that has evaded him.

Hagar badly wants to win the Short Track Nationals hosted by I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The 30th edition of the ASCS Mid-South Region event runs this Thursday through Saturday.

"I'm open minded," he said. "We've had good runs every time we've been there this year. The race track fits our driving style. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen. I feel we have a very good opportunity to pull off the win."

Hagar has one victory, two runner-up results and a fourth-place finish during four winged sprint car starts at the oval this year.

"It's one of those deals it weighs on you," he said. "You're a local and expected to do good. All the anticipation that leads up to Saturday's event, it builds up a lot. Guys are expecting you to do good because it's your home race track and your home crowd. I know we can do it, but we have to have luck on our side. You have to be on top of your game and luck has to be on your side."

Hagar has made the Saturday A Main four times and he posted his career-best result during the event last year when he finished eighth.

Last Saturday's USCS Series event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., was postponed to Oct. 28 because of weather. It will now mark Hagar's sprint car season finale.

Tankersley Excited to Return to Racing This Weekend at Short Track Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - HIGHLANDS, Texas (Oct. 10, 2017) - It has been more than three months since Channin Tankersley has competed.

There was one night of testing during that time, but it ended early. Therefore, Tankersley will be fresh entering the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Thursday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. He will pilot a sprint car for Bruce Griffith during the ASCS Mid-South Region tripleheader that runs through Saturday.

"A little break never hurts, but it's been quite a while since we've really raced," Tankersley said. "I think this is the least amount of races we've done in a season up to this point. The biggest thing is we're going to do the practice session on Wednesday. We have a new car and fresh engine. We're pretty much going to get me acclimated and also get a little time on the car."

Tankersley last competed at I-30 Speedway in 2015 during the Short Track Nationals. He advanced from fourth to second place during a preliminary night heat race to put himself in a great points position before a crash in the qualifier ended his chances early.

"That place has been really good to me and it's also been really bad," he said. "We had a really good shot a couple of years ago to make the A Main, but I got caught up in a crash on my preliminary night and it wiped the car out."

The year before he won a preliminary night heat race before a crash in a qualifier closed the weekend early.

"We've also made the A Main a couple of times," he said. "We're going into it with a lot of confidence."

Tankersley qualified for the Saturday finale in 2013 for the first time. He placed 16th in the feature after being caught up in a crash.

"It's very easy to get caught up in something at that track," he said. "It's a small bullring with a lot of drivers who have the same goal. You need to have a little luck on your side to avoid some of the incidents. If you have luck and a good car you have a shot."

SEASON STATS -

15 races, 1 win, 4 top fives, 6 top 10s, 7 top 15s, 11 top 20s

Baughman Back in Action This Weekend During Short Track Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 10, 2017) - Josh Baughman will return to the track this weekend for the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

Baughman will compete Thursday through Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., where the ASCS Mid-South Region tripleheader will be contested after taking the last two weeks off following two wild rides during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

"We had a tough weekend the last time out so we needed to regroup and build a new car," he said. "Racing can be a humbling sport and flipping twice in one weekend definitely knocks you down. The great thing is we get the chance for redemption this weekend."

It will mark Baughman's season debut at I-30 Speedway, where he last raced in 2014 during the Short Track Nationals. Baughman placed 15th during two preliminary nights before narrowly missing a transfer into the A Main during the finale.

"I-30 Speedway is a small, quarter-mile track that is elbows up," he said. "You will always be around other cars and things happen in a hurry so you have to be cautiously aggressive. If you can have a little luck on your side and have a good race car you'll have a chance to get great results, but bad things can happen in a hurry as well. Hopefully luck is on our side this weekend."

Baughman's lone victory this season came on a quarter-mile oval.

White Adds Another New State to Her List During Colorado ASCS Fall Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - CALHAN, Colo. (Oct. 10, 2017) - Harli White competed in Colorado last Saturday for the first time in her career.

The Colorado ASCS Fall Nationals, which was hosted by El Paso County Raceway, became the eighth new state for White to race in this year during her first season on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"We didn't get the finish we wanted, but it was cool to be in Colorado and at another new track for me," she said. "The track was like a d shape. In hot laps I was like, 'This is different.' It took a little to get used to."

After Friday's opener was rained out, White began Saturday's program by finishing where she started - fifth - in a heat race. That lined her up 13 th for the A Main.

"Unfortunately, it was one lane in the heat race and we couldn't go anywhere," she said. "There wasn't much passing in the main event either. We had a decent car and our lap times were really good. It was one of those tracks where it was really hard to pass and the way the altitude was the motors wouldn't run. It would spit and sputter. It was a learning experience with the fueling because of the altitude."

White battled just outside the top 10 for the entire feature before ending 12th. She remains ninth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings.

White will return to action this Thursday through Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires with the ASCS Mid-South Region.

"I love Short Track Nationals," she said. "I feel pretty good there. I-30 is always racy and my kind of track. Our goal is to be in the show on Saturday. It's a big goal, but it's definitely possible."

Bruce Jr. Enters Short Track Nationals With Momentum and Confidence

Inside Line Promotions - OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 10, 2017) - Momentum is clearly on the side of Tony Bruce Jr. as he enters one of the biggest events in sprint car racing this weekend.

Bruce Jr. and the Smith Family No. 86 team will compete with the ASCS Mid-South Region this Thursday through Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

"Short Track Nationals is a tough event," he said. "Every time you touch the race track you have to accumulate positive points. If you have a bad draw you have to go forward and if you have a good draw you have to maintain."

Bruce Jr. is one of only three drivers to score back-to-back Short Track Nationals titles as he accomplished that feat in 2008 and 2009, joining Steve Kinser and Gary Wright.

"It's special because nobody will be able to take it away," he said. "When you look in the record book you'll see my name next to some of the greatest people in sprint car racing. It's an honor. I'd like to win another one and get my name in the history book again as one of only four drivers to win three times."

Bruce Jr. enters this weekend on the heels of his first victory of the season, which came at I-30 Speedway on Sept. 30.

"It reassures whether or not you can still do it," he said. "It's good to know our car is fast and we're capable of winning. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary and passed some really good cars to pick up a win so that is huge for our confidence moving forward."

23 races, 1 win, 9 top fives, 15 top 10s, 21 top 15s, 22 top 20s
