Sides competed last Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas. Qualifying put him behind the figurative eight ball on both nights of the FVP Outlaw Showdown.

"The first night it was a bit rough and I thought we got through there good and we ended at the back," he said. "On the second night the top got so far around there I slowed down to the hit the bottom. I thought I hit it good, but I was still several tenths off."

Sides qualified 17th and 19th, respectively, and he placed ninth in a heat race both nights. He won the C Main before placing 10th in the Last Chance Showdown on Wednesday. Sides scratched from feature competition on Thursday.

The SoCal Showdown last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., rained out. It was the third World of Outlaws event in the first eight scheduled races to be cancelled because of inclement weather.

Mallett Posts Pair of Top 10s in Mississippi to Garner USCS Winter Heat Title

Inside Line Promotions - COLUMBUS, Miss. (March 5, 2018) - Jordon Mallett continued his consistency last weekend when he posted two more top-10 finishes to maintain the USCS Series national points lead.

"Consistency is key," he said. "Of course I would like to have a couple of wins under our belt, but with a new car that we're still working the kinks out of I'm learning what it wants. We're picking up speed every weekend. I'm not displeased with being in the top 10 every night. We're in a pretty good position to start the year."

The action began last Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where Mallett won both the dash and a heat race after starting on the pole in both races.

"I thought we put ourselves in position and were set up pretty good, but we didn't make the feature inversion so we had to start seventh," he said. "We worked our way up right away, then fell back midway through and then settled into where we finished. We just weren't where we needed to be. We were good all night to that point. I don't feel like we were worse in the main event. We just needed to be better."

The seventh-place finish guided Mallett into Magnolia Motor Speedway, which hosted the USCS Series on Saturday. Mallett finished third in the dash and sixth in a heat race during the first half of the night.

"I couldn't get the car balanced and wasn't happy with it," he said. "In the dash and the heat race I didn't feel like it was where it needed to be. That relegated us to a B Main. We backed up and started the night over before the B Main. The car was better so we worked off that for the feature."

Mallett advanced from fourth to third place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the main event. He then rallied from 17th to ninth in the A Main to keep his top-10 streak alive.

"We were pretty good," he said. "I wish we would have made a few more changes because we could have been a top-five car. It was a fun little race. The track was rough and slick. It was get on the wheel and make it happen. As hard as that track was I'm not going to complain with a top 10."

In addition to continuing to lead the USCS National championship standings, Mallett scored the Winter Heat title after garnering the most overall points through the first six races of the season.

He will be off for the next couple of weeks before USCS Series competition resumes March 24 at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala.

Runner-Up Results Highlight Blake Hahn's USCS Weekend

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (March 5, 2018) Opening weekend for Blake Hahn took him to the state of Mississippi with USCS with solid results on the two nights of racing at Hattiesburg Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway in the Griffith Truck and Equipment/Smiley's Racing Products No. 52.

"The racing was great. The sour note on the weekend was with the trailer brakes locking up and catching on fire," stated Hahn. "We were flagged down and once we got stopped, we had to empty three fire extinguishers, plus another two or three from people who stopped to help us. We're just lucky we didn't burn the whole thing down and very thankful to the people who stopped to help us."

Earning the third starting spot in the A-Feature on Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway, Hahn's night would get an unexpected twist as the right rear went flat prior to taking the green. Despite having to vacate the second row to start 24th, Blake fought his way to a sixth-place finish.

"The track was really hard to pass on so having to drop the tail had me a little worried, but once we got rolling, the car was fantastic and we were able to roll through the center where everyone else seemed to struggle," explained Blake. "I stuck primarily to the bottom, but even when I had to move to the top, the car was still good enough that I could keep my momentum up and move forward."

Moving from the tight corners to Hattiesburg to the sweeping turns of Magnolia Motor Speedway, Hahn started off the night with an extra $100 by winning the Dash. Eighth to third in his Heat Race, Blake rolled to the green from the front row with Tony Stewart.

"We raced almost side-by-side with "Smoke" for the first four laps or so, but once he got his momentum built up on the top, he was able to get away. As the race went on, traffic let me get a little closer, but it wasn't enough to run him down. We had a caution with about five to go and I tried to get under him again, but just wasn't able to get it done. I got to racing with Derek Hagar trying to hold him off so Tony was gone, but to come out and run the way we did after all the work we've done over the winter, we are excited to see what we can do with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour; especially at Devil's Bowl."

Taking the next two weeks to go over the team's rig and make sure all the braking issues are been righted, the next race on the lineup will be the 45th Devil's Bowl Spring National on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.

The 2018 season is Blake Hahn's 16th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars.
