Blake Hahn Ready For Three Nights Of Racing Across Oklahoma and Iowa

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (July 25, 2018) Looking at a trio of race nights this weekend, Blake Hahn will see action at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. on Friday, July 27 followed by a return to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, July 28, and Mason City Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 29.

"We're looking forward to this weekend. I'm actually racing double duty on Friday night in wing and non-wing. Just trying to get some laps in without the win for the USAC show in August, plus we never pass up a chance to race close to home," commented Hahn.

Racing Knoxville Raceway this past weekend, Hahn tested setup and engine combination with the team making progress despite a miscue in the Heat Race.

"I messed up in the Heat racing Wayne for fourth so that sent us to the B-Feature but we were able to win that and move on. We made up some ground and finished 18th, but we've always struggled at Knoxville. It races so different from anything I'm used to, that I seem to spend all my time fighting the car so we got some notes and ideas to try last weekend, and the car felt a lot better where I feel like we really have something to build on so this weekend is all about making our laps count"

Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway, Hahn finds himself still within striking distance of the point's lead with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.

"Mason City is a neat track. I really think we can make up some ground there if we can start off fast. The draw has just killed us lately where we spend all our time having to make up ground, but we're not going in looking at points. We're going in looking at the win. To be this far into the season without a win, and still be running third in points, I feel like we're there, we just need to finish the job."

The 2018 season is Blake Hahn's 16th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars. Podium Finish Highlights Knoxville Raceway Weekend For Hafertepe

Bryan Hulbert - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 25, 2018) Making an appearance at Knoxville Raceway for the second week in a row, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. capped the Saturday night affair off with a third-place finish in 360cid competition.

Intending on running double-duty, ignition issues sidelined the Kiebler & Sons Lawn and Landscaping No. 15h on the 410cid side of things.

"I didn't want to be work on one car and take away from the other one," explained Sam who is planning on bringing the 410cid program back to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday, July 28 to take on the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

Putting his full focus on the 360cid program, Hafertepe rolled off a 16.781-second lap, which put the Hills Racing Team entry fifth fastest overall. Moving fifth to third in the opening Heat Race, the format of cumulative points positioned Sam to the right of Joey Saldana on the front row of the A-Feature.

Needing a good start to gap Joey Saldana into the first turn, Sam got caught in the slick and lost ground to the No. 26 on the start, while also allowing Cory Eliason to move by for second.

"On the start, you really needed to be in the moister, and starting on the outside I was just kind of a sitting duck so, by the time we got to turn one, I was already running third," explained Hafertepe.

Trying a couple times to move back to the front, the moves came up short as the result was a third-place finish.

"I tried a divebomb moves in three and four, but there was just nothing down there. I was just a deal where you ran the top all 18 laps."

With Saturday's plate filled with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, Sunday will see action moving north to Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City, Iowa with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com. Sam currently leads the series with the top three separated by 96 markers.

Wednesday's With Wayne: Readying For Knoxville

Bryan Hulbert - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 25, 2018) Putting in laps at Knoxville Raceway this past weekend, Wayne Johnson was right at home at the half-mile oval with a fifth-place finish in 360cid action.

"We weren't too shabby. Just went for a tune-up. We hadn't been there this year at all with a 360 and we rolled out in the second group of three to qualify and ended up eighth quick, which I felt pretty good about because the track was still pretty greasy around the bottom. I really felt like if we'd had the track a little bit later, we could have been even better, so to come out as good as we did when we did was good," said Johnson who laid down a 16.855-second lap.

A back and forth battle with Blake Hahn for fourth, experience paid off for Johnson to claim the position. Gridding the A-Feature eighth, Wayne steadily moved forward over the course of the 18-lap event despite being tough to pass.

"We were a little snug in the Heat, but we made the right changes for the Feature and actually was pretty good, but all in all, we had a fifth-place car. The track was really one dimensional. Just everyone used up the bottom and the middle early, and the top is the only place to run so it was just slide job city if you want to make a pass instead of being able to work the bottom."

Closing on Ryan Giles a couple times for the fourth spot, the move never presented itself in a manner that wouldn't send both cars into, or over, the fence.

"I could have slid him, but it would have ended with me driving through the side of him. That's not good and just being a weekly show this close to the Nationals, I wasn't going to tear up a car, but overall we were good. Everyone that finished in front of me started in front of me, so eighth to fifth felt pretty good."

Looking ahead, the plan is to have the Outlaw Wings No. 2c back at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, followed by Mason City Motor Speedway on Sunday with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.
