Hahn Wraps Up Successful Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour With Top Fives At Texas Motor Speedway
Bryan Hulbert - FT. WORTH, Texas (November 6, 2019) A banner season for Blake Hahn with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network came down to the final two nights of the year with the DriveWFX.com/Route 66 Chevrolet No. 52 second in the final tour standings to Sam Hafertepe, Jr. "First off, congratulations to Sam and his team. They did one hell of a job this year. Obviously, for us, the goal was to be champion, and we just came up short. That part I am bummed about, but overall, I can't be disappointed at how our season went. We led the points a couple of times, we won more races than ever and figured out things in our program that were holding us back and it's chasing drivers like Sam that make us better," commented Blake of the overall 2019 season. Wrapping up the season this past week at the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals, Hahn earned a pair of top-five runs at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. "We had a good weekend. We ended up fifth on Thursday on a pretty tough track, but considering how much rain they had leading up to the races, I was actually impressed at how well the track held together. Our biggest goal was to just stay upright and out of trouble, and if we could, make the moves that were presented." Seeing a much different track on Friday, Hahn overcame a bottom of the barrel draw in his Heat Race to grid the A-Feature seventh. Battling throughout the top ten, Hahn climbed from seventh to fourth. "We only made up one spot in the Heat, so I was worried if we would even make the Qualifier but luckily we did and my crew hit the setup spot on because we were able to pass some pretty fast cars and get into the A-Feature where we were ok. The track was great and very technical so if you missed it a little bit, you gave up all kinds of ground and it was tough to make up time, but a lot of fun." Coming up next for Hahn will be a return to the Arizona Sport Shirts Gateway Dirt Nationals presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Mo. on December 19, 20, and 21. "We're taking a new car into Gateway to shakedown for the Chili Bowl. Being the only other indoor race this winter for Midgets, it'll be a good test with the competition that is set to be there." The 2019 season is Blake Hahn's 17th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars. Run At Texas Motor Speedway Secures Hafertepe's Fourth Consecutive ASCS National Tour TitleBryan Hulbert - FT. WORTH, Texas (November 6, 2019) Going into Texas Motor Speedway, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was stalked by Blake Hahn for the 2019 championship with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, but a weekend high podium run on Thursday night locked up the Sunnyvale, Texas driver's four consecutive title. "To do this four times is pretty awesome and to have done it four times in a row is an even bigger accomplishment," stated Hafertepe. Looking at the stats of Sam's four championships, two with Keith Dobbs and two with Hills Racing Team, the driver of the No. 15h landed 40 wins, 94 top-fives, and 114 top-tens in 139 A-Feature starts and is the fourth driver to have four or more titles with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, and is the third to do so consecutively with Terry Gray (1995-1998) and Gary Wright (2004-2007) on that list. Speaking on the past four seasons, Sam explained, "The first two years, we really didn't have anything in our way. We just dominated, and years three and four, luck started to catch up to us a little bit but thankfully we were still fast enough to overcome the bad luck and take advantage. For me, this is a pretty big accomplishment especially with the competition we've had." Looking back at the final two nights of the championship chase, Hafertepe entered the first night with the simple goal of staying ahead of Blake Hahn. "We had a great car, and once we got where we needed, we just rode. I knew we needed to get ahead of Blake, so I focused on hitting my marks and if I got the opportunity to pass a car, we did...Thursday was one of those nights where it was cowboy up because of the weather they had Tuesday and Wednesday, but we were still able to make a good night out of it." Avoiding a near catastrophe during his Qualifier on Friday, the No. 15h took the green in the A-Feature from the 12th starting spot; making it up to eighth at the drop of the checkered flag. "The deal in the Qualifier put us out of starting near the first couple of rows, and in the feature we just missed it and for the track record we've had at TMS, it was disappointing way to end the year but on the bigger picture, it still came down to that weekend and we accomplished what we needed too." Wrapping up his 2019 season this weekend, the Hills Racing No. 15h will be in action at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars and the Can-Am World Finals, happening November 7-9.
