Cory Hedgecock Takes Win Total to Three with Frostbuster Triumph

Loudon, Tennessee (02/28/17) – Cory Hedgecock increased his 2017-win total to three behind the wheel of his Cushman #23 Eagle Racing Engines/ Rocket Chassis Crate Late Model on Saturday afternoon. His latest conquest came at 411 Motor Speedway during the annual Frostbuster.

Behind the wheel of the VooDoo Technology #23 entry, Cory Hedgecock traveled to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) on Saturday for the annual Frostbuster.

Competing in both his Super Late Model and Crate Late Model, Hedgecock earned a front-row starting spot for the $1,500-to-win Crate feature after qualifying second fastest behind Jason Manley. Grabbing the top spot at the drop of the green flag, Cory jumped into a comfortable lead by the fifth lap. Holding off a few challengers near the midway point, Cory charged to his third victory of the season in as many starts with Manley, Rusty Ballenger, Forrest Trent, and Jesse Lowe competing the Top-5 finishers.

In the Super Late Model division, Hedgecock earned the 4th-starting spot for the feature after timing fourth fastest in a field of 27 entries. Working his way into a podium position early, Cory suffered a broken lift bar in the final 5 laps of the A-Main, bringing his day to an early end.

“It was a bad deal to have the mechanical failure late in the Super Late Model feature because we had a really good car, but overall it was still a great day for our team,” said Hedgecock. “It’s awesome to hit the ground running in 2017 with three wins already. Hopefully we can keep this streak going.”

The team will take the next few weeks off to prepare for a very busy season. Cory is slated to next return to action on March 18 with a $3,000-to-win, Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series event at 411 Motor Speedway. For more information on the event, please visit www.525SuperSeries.com .

Chris Brown Continues Strong Start to ’17; Ark-La-Tex Next

Spring, Texas (02/28/17) – Chris Brown continued his fast start to the 2017 season by powering his Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance #21 MB Customs/ Durham Racing Engine Modified to a trio of Top-5 finishes over the weekend in United States Modified Touring Series action.

The opening round of a tripleheader weekend with the Summit Racing United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Southern Region presented by Production Jars brought 47 cars to Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi) on Friday evening. Rolling off 4th in his heat race, Brown secured his spot into the opening night feature with a 2nd-place finish in his heat behind Trevor Egbert. Earning the 10th-starting position for the A-Main, Chris wheeled his way up to a runner-up finish behind Cade Dillard with Stormy Scott, Jason Hughes, and Trevor Egbert completing the Top 5.

Saturday afternoon brought 44 USMTS followers to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi) on Saturday for another chance at the $3,000 payday. Starting the night once again by posting a 2nd-place finish in his heat race, Brown earned the 10th-starting spot for the main event. Passing eight more cars, Chris reeled in a 2nd-place finish behind Cade Dillard with Johnny Scott, Stormy Scott, and Ricky Thornton Jr. trailing them across the finish line.

For the final night of the USMTS weekend Chris headed to Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) on Sunday. Landing a 2nd-place finish in his heat race behind Stormy Scott, Brown earned the 4th-starting position for the $3,000-to-win finale. Racing in the Top 5 throughout the feature, Chris Brown ultimately registered a 5th-place finish behind Ricky Thornton Jr., Dereck Ramirez, Zack VanderBeek, and Tyler Wolff.

“We had a really good car all weekend, but we were just a tick off from where we needed to be to get the wins,” said Brown. “The competition on the tour is so stout this year, so to consistently be running in the Top 5 says a lot about our team. If we keep performing this way, I think we can really win a lot of races this year.”

Chris is currently in second in the USMTS Southern Region point standings. For full results from these events, please visit www.USMTS.com .

Another USMTS tripleheader will be on the docket for Chris Brown Racing this weekend as he enters a trio of events at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana). For more information on the events, please visit www.USMTS.com .

Baughman Opening Sprint Car Season in Texas This Weekend With World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - TULSA, Okla. (Feb. 28, 2017) - Josh Baughman's winged sprint car season begins this weekend in Texas.

Baughman kicks off his 2017 campaign at a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore for the East Texas Lone Star Shootout and on Saturday at Gator Motorplex in Willis.

"The guys have worked hard during the offseason to get our team prepared for what will be our busiest season ever," he said. "We are very excited to do more 410ci sprint car racing this year. We switched our 410 program to Kistler Racing Engines and are thrilled to welcome them to our team as well as thank Fisher Body Shop and everyone else who is returning as partners."

Baughman has approximately two dozen World of Outlaws starts since 2012 under his belt with a career-best result of 13th, which he set last season.

"We've picked up a few top 15s with the Outlaws during select shows, but I'm still looking for that first top 10," he said. "That's one of our goals for this weekend. We want to be consistent and contend for a top 10 each night."

This weekend will mark the first time he will compete at Gator Motorplex and he has only been to LoneStar Speedway once. However, Baughman was victorious last summer in a 410 event during his first-career race at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., which adds to his confidence.

"When we earned our first 410 win last year it was during our first time racing at Lernerville so that gave our team a lot of confidence because not only could we win, but we could adapt quickly and be contenders during our first time at a track," he said.

Hanks Fights Tight Race Car Throughout Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s

Inside Line Promotions - TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2017) - Brandon Hanks battled a tight race car throughout the 16th annual Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s last weekend at East Bay Raceway Park.

"We were pretty tight all weekend and it didn't work in our favor," he said. "It was frustrating because we don't know how often we'll get to race this year so we want to maximize those opportunities, but on the positive side we learned a few things that we can apply to the car."

The event began last Thursday when Hanks started last - ninth - in a heat race. He finished in that position, which relegated him to the 14 th starting position in a B Main that only transferred the top two to the main event.

"We got behind the eight ball starting at the back of the heat race when the track was pretty heavy," he said. "We threw some things at the setup for the B Main and the car really came alive."

Hanks picked up nine positions as he charged to a fifth-place result in the consolation race.

He returned to the oval on Friday and started on the pole of a heat race.

"We drew much better, but starting on the bottom lane wasn't preferred," he said. "The outside lane had much more traction and we fell to second on the start."

Hanks finished in the runner-up position, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for a B Main.

"We didn't get a good start again and lost a couple of positions," he said. "The track started taking rubber in the B Mains so the start was everything."

Hanks placed fourth to miss a transfer by only two positions.

The event wrapped up on Saturday when Hanks maneuvered from fourth to third place in a heat race. That started him on the inside of the second row in a B Main.

"For the third night we were just a bit off with the setup and when you're racing that level of competition you have to be on point," he said. "We ended up finishing sixth and missed a transfer to the main event by three spots. It was disappointing to end that way, but we'll take what we can from the weekend and apply it down the road."

Hagar Posts Top-Five Finish During Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s

Inside Line Promotions - TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2017) - Derek Hagar earned a top-five result last weekend during his season-opening event.

Hagar, who was piloting a sprint car for Witherspoon Racing, garnered a fourth-place finish during the middle race of the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints tripleheader at East Bay Raceway Park during the 16th annual Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s.

"It was great to start the season with a top five and do it while running for the first time with a new team," he said. "The guys were ecstatic that we could run fourth out of 60 cars. It was a great accomplishment."

The event began on Thursday when Hagar finished where he started - fifth - in a heat race. That relegated him to the sixth starting position in a B Main.

"We got the car a little better for the B Main and were able to get up to third place, but on a restart Tony Stewart got by and we finished fourth to miss a transfer by two positions," he said.

Hagar fared much better at the bullring on Friday when he powered from eighth to second place in a heat race to record the most points out of the 60-plus competitors. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 3 to start the 25-lap main event on the inside of the second row.

"The track took rubber in the B Mains so it was pretty locked down once the main event started," he said. "There wasn't much passing and everyone was single file on the bottom. It was great to get a top five to start the season and for the guys at Witherspoon Racing."

Hagar maintained fourth place throughout the feature before ending in that position.

The event concluded on Saturday when Hagar placed fourth in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the third row in a B Main.

"We needed to move forward or at least maintain our starting position in the heat race, but since the races were lined up by event points the guys in front of us were really good," he said. "In the B Main we fell back a little on the start and then got back to where we started. We fell short of making the A Main, but we can't hang our heads. It was a good weekend for the team."

Hagar will make his debut in his own sprint car this Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., and Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., with the USCS Series.
