Cory Hedgecock Visits Victory Lane at I-75 Raceway

Loudon, Tennessee (05/16/17) – Mother Nature may have altered Cory Hedgecock’s weekend plans, but it didn’t slow his roll behind the wheel of his Cushman #23 Five Star Hyundai Rocket Chassis Limited Late Model. The Tennessee racer streaked to his ninth win of the season, which came on Saturday night at I-75 Raceway.

After seeing rain threaten the weekend’s United Crate Racing Association (UCRA) events, Cory made the decision to just race close to home on Saturday night at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tennessee) in the Limited Late Model division.

Earning the pole position for the feature via preliminary events, Hedgecock paced the field throughout the finale, picking up his ninth win of the season. Sammie Russell, Andy Pickelsimer, Benjy Shaw, and Johnny Ridings rounded out the Top-5 finishers.

“Weather looked pretty iffy so we decided to stay close to home and it worked out nicely for our team,” said Hedgecock. “We’re going to head back to I-75 Raceway this Saturday because we are debuting a new Rocket XR1. With our knowledge of the place it will be a perfect situation to test the new car and get it dialed in before the NeSmith swing through Mississippi on Memorial Day weekend.”

For more results from this event, please visit www.I75Raceway.com .

This Saturday will see Hedgecock returning to I-75 Raceway as he looks to push his 2017 win tally to double digits. For more information on the event, please visit www.I75Raceway.com .

Kevin Swindell and Bayston Showcase Speed With MOWA and World of Outlaws at Tri-State Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 16, 2017) - Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston tackled a pair of races at Tri-State Speedway last weekend.

The duo opened the action on Saturday when Bayston qualified second quickest before he charged from sixth to win a MOWA Series heat race. The feature inversion lined the Swindell Speed Lab backed car up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

"We went to prepare ourselves for Sunday, to get a good feel for the track and get the car dialed in," Bayston said. "We got faster throughout the night. I slid the leader and second place in turns one and two with three or four laps to go. We collided and that cut our left rear tire down. We had good speed and that gave us confidence going into Sunday."

Bayston was in a three-way battle for the lead in the closing laps when the contact brought out a caution. The team replaced the tire and he rebounded to end 11th after restarting at the back.

"We were close," Swindell said. "I don't think we were as good as we needed to be, but I think we were the best car."

The bullring hosted the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Sunday and Bayston was strong right out of the box. He timed in ninth quickest during qualifying before placing third in a heat race. That missed a spot in the dash by only one position and locked the team into the ninth starting position in the main event.

"We were cruising at the beginning of the feature," Bayston said. "The track started slicking off and I was able to work the top pretty well. A car came off the bottom and met me at the wall. It shoved the rear end out of whack. I was able to hold on to 12th."

Bayston had maneuvered into seventh within the first dozen laps before the contact damaged the race car.

"He was the first one to go to the top," Swindell said. "On one of the restarts he drove around two guys in one corner. We went back to the top and someone came off the bottom and didn't leave him any room. It bent the left rear pretty good and wadded the Jacob's Ladder up. It made the car way too free."

Bayston held on for a 12th-place finish.

"It was a really good feeling knowing we had the speed," he said. "It was unfortunate to have that fast of a race car and the results not show it both nights."

The next scheduled race for the team is May 26 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

Hanks Ready to Return to Racing Following Frustrating Weekend in Indiana

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 16, 2017) - Brandon Hanks can't wait to climb back into his sprint car following a weekend in Indiana where he faced early exits each night.

The action began on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, where he qualified fourth quickest before placing fifth in a heat race during the MOWA Series event. That lined Hanks up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"Friday night was pretty good," he said. "The track was pretty rough and it was one of those deals where I hooked a rut and turned over. I was happy to be fast and competitive in the top five though."

Hanks was running fifth during the early stage of the feature when he got upside down. He was unable to restart and was credited with an 18 th-place finish.

The team ventured to Tri-State Speedway on Saturday with the MOWA Series.

"We tried something we'd done at Lucas Oil Speedway (in Wheatland, Mo.) and it didn't work," he said. "We just didn't have any speed."

Hanks timed in 17th quickest during qualifying and he placed second in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the ninth row for the main event.

"I passed one or two cars, but the car wasn't great and I wasn't very comfortable," he said. "I kept getting balled up on the cushion. I didn't have any forward drive so I pulled in early to save some laps on the motor."

He ended with a 20th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway, where the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competed. Hanks qualified 20 th quickest before a couple of incidents in the heat race resulted in an eighth-place finish.

"We were a lot better and had more speed, but I struggled in the heat race trying to get around some cars," he said. "I tried to pass one car and he shoved me in the wall. It brought out a caution. We restarted and I was passing another car and someone cut across and I had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting him and I spun myself out. It was really frustrating."

The team then fought a power steering problem in the Last Chance Showdown and Hanks was unable to finish the race because of the ill-handling race car.

Hanks will take this weekend off before rejoining the MOWA Series on May 26 at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., and May 27 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.

Hagar Ready for Non-Wing Sprint Car, Midget and Winged Sprint Car Races Following Late Model Action

Inside Line Promotions - PARAGOULD, Ark. (May 16, 2017) - Derek Hagar is in the middle of experiencing one of the most diverse weeks of racing during his storied career.

Hagar is slated to pilot both a non-wing sprint car and a midget this Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., during a USAC event before climbing into his winged sprint car on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Hooker Hood Classic.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "We'll be behind the eight ball because we'll be running our 360 against the 410 guys in the USAC sprint car race, but if the track slicks off we'll be there with an even playing field."

Hagar is coming off a rare start in a limited late model last Saturday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway, where he hopped in the Charles Freeman owned full-bodied car for only the second time in his career.

"It's probably been about 10 years since I'd run one," Hagar said. "I was having racing withdrawals. I texted the track owner Friday night and he texted me back two minutes later with a ride."

Hagar advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race.

"I got the lead on Lap 3 and I led until about three laps to go and finished second," he said. "In the feature we backed up to sixth before getting back up to fourth. I was running a crate motor against super motors, the big motors. I was pretty proud of our result."

Hagar's fourth-place finish marked his eighth top five of the season.

"I'm anxious to see what it feels like being in a winged car and non-wing car after being in a late model," he said. "I was driving it really hard. People said I was driving it 10 times deeper than everyone else. We'll see how it goes this weekend when I get back in an open wheel race car."

Sides Nets Seventh-Place Finish at Eldora During World of Outlaws Tripleheader Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 16, 2017) - Jason Sides highlighted last weekend with a top-10 finish at Eldora Speedway during a tripleheader with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

The three-race weekend began on Friday at the half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio, where Sides set quick time during qualifying. He then placed second in a heat race to lock into the dash, in which he advanced from fourth to second place to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"We started out all right," he said. "We were on the outside on a few restarts and that didn't help us. I wish we were a little tighter from the get-go. Toward the end the bottom groove did go away some and a couple drivers started running higher and we were struggling to get grip on the bottom."

Sides held on for a seventh-place finish, which marked his 11th top 10 in 12 races.

"It was a good night, but there's always room for improvements," he said. "If we could go back and do it again I know what I'd do to change things to make it better."

Eldora Speedway hosted another show on Saturday, when Sides timed in 23 rd quickest. He then ended seventh in a heat race and third in the Last Chance Showdown before maneuvering from 21st to 17 th in the main event.

"We tightened up more and were pretty good in the feature," he said. "A sign board came off another driver's top wing and knocked our nose wing down. We had to make a few pit stops. Thanks to everyone for helping us on that. I think we would have had a possible top 10 if that issue wouldn't have occurred."

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway, where Sides qualified 28th quickest after going out late. He advanced from seventh to fifth place in a heat race to lock into the main event, in which he drove from 20th to a 17th-place finish.

"It was an early start and the sun dried out the track in turns three and four pretty quickly," he said. "The racing groove got way up against the wall with a big curb in qualifying and we went out late. I was by myself and didn't want to tear stuff up. It was basic survival all night. We wanted to make it out in one piece, which we did."

Sides has a busy week on tap as he is slated to compete on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash; on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup; and on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., for the Empire State Challenge with the World of Outlaws.

Mark Burch Motorsports and Lasoski Capture First Podium of Season at Badlands

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (May 16, 2017) - Mark Burch Motorsports earned its first podium finish of the season during its third race last Saturday at Badlands Motor Speedway.

The team, which is piloted by veteran Danny Lasoski, timed in eighth quickest before placing third in a heat race during the Folkens Brothers Silver Shootout.

"We didn't qualify real good," he said. "We have a brand new Schnee car, which is the nicest fabricated car out there in my opinion. We just don't have the handle on it, but we're getting closer. Mark hit on a couple of things in the feature."

Lasoski lined up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event and he quickly advanced into the top 10. He methodically maneuvered into the top five before a late-race caution.

"On the restart I went from fifth to third," he said. "I'm not saying we would have won if the race was longer, but we were moving forward. I'm very happy with the hard work Mark has put in to make this team better. We are improving each time out. We're having to do things way differently than other race cars, but it's a work in progress and I've got the best guy in the business in Mark.

"I also want to say that the facility was second to none. I haven't been there since Chuck Brennan took it over. It's a phenomenal facility."

The weekend began on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., for the Spring Nationals. Lasoski timed in third quickest in his group before winning a heat race. That locked him into the feature inversion, which lined him up on the pole for the main event. Unfortunately, an electrical problem during the opening laps resulted in a DNF.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT - Eagle Motorsports and Schnee Chassis

Eagle Motorsports, which is located in Lincoln, Neb., has fabricated sprint car chassis since 1998. For more information, visit http://www.EagleMotorsports.com .

"With my long-time mentor and chassis builder, Doug Wolfgang, retiring from the business in 2016 we knew we were going to have to add something to our stable this year," Burch said. "I have known and worked with Brian and Jean Schnee since my first race car in 1994 which was a 1989 Schnee. We won five races in '94 with that old car, which was my first year as a car owner. From 1995 through 2016 we have been almost exclusively on Wolfweld chassis. I'm proud to say that I've probably won more races in Doug's cars than anyone else who ran them. I have even won races with Doug driving his own cars, which is also really cool. Those cars have won from Little Rock to Knoxville, Eagle, I-80, East Bay, Belleville and many places in between. More important than building cars for me, Doug Wolfgang taught me how to be a racer, period. That is the reason I chose to be his most loyal customer and received the most value for all of the business we did together. His guidance means the world to me. I am forever grateful to him and we will continue to win races in his cars as time goes on.

"As we turn to a new chapter in 2017, working with Brian Schnee, Mike Long and the staff at EMi has been great. Brian and I go way back. Danny has had great success with his own personal cars. Mike Long and I have taught chassis seminars together and I really admire his knowledge and business sense. Not to mention the fact that their facility is only about three miles from my house. Of course their affiliation with Speedway Motors, a long time sponsor and supporter, is a huge plus. It was a natural fit a long time in the making.

"Brian and Mike were gracious enough to build a car very similar to our Wolfweld platform that Doug had been building for me. From there, Danny and I just need to get things sorted out and believe me we will. We really appreciate all of the things the Brian, Mike, EMI and Speedway do for us and we look forward to doing the work that it takes to bring future success on the race track."

Mark Burch Motorsports would also like to thank Team Jack Foundation, Engler Machine & Tool, Inc., Wolfweld Chassis, AFCO Gas Shocks by Speedway Motors, King Racing Products, Hot Dot Inc., Weld Wheels, Speedway Motors, Speedway Shock Service, Huggins Cams, Total Seal Piston Rings, Schoenfeld Headers, Driven Race Oil, Gessford Machine, Dyer's Top Rods, Wireless Amber Alerts, Hoosier Tire, Arrow Truck Sales, Donovan Blocks, Rod End Supply, Diamond Pistons, Saldana Racing Products, MSD Ignition, Vortex Wings, S & S Welding, Inc., Sweet Manufacturing, DMI Bulldog Rears, Wulff Pumps, Red Devil Brakes, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Harris Decals, Lincoln Auto Auction, Smith Precision Products and HRP Wings for their continued support.

Dover Captures Second Straight Win at Park Jefferson International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 16, 2017) - Jack Dover posted his second straight victory at Park Jefferson International Speedway last Saturday.

"The car count was a little lower than we expected, but it feels good to get another win under our belt," he said. "This is a better start to the season than we've had the last couple of years."

Dover kicked off the night by qualifying second quickest. He then posted a runner-up result in a heat race.

"We were way too tight in qualifying," he said. "In the heat race we were leading going into turn one and I overdrove it into the corner and fell off the edge. I restarted at the back and came up to second."

Dover then drew the No. 4 during the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

"We were supposed to start fourth, but the guy who was supposed to start second dropped out so we moved up," he said. "We took the lead and checked out on the start. The track was real slick so we wanted to try some stuff. It actually worked so we learned something from the night."

Dover led the distance to record his seventh win in the last 10 races at Park Jefferson International Speedway.

The weekend began last Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., where Dover picked up a position to finish fourth in a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race. That sent him to the B Main, which he won to lock into the 18th starting position in the main event. He then rallied to finish 13th.

"We had the car too tight," he said. "We could still move forward. I think we would have been way better if the car wouldn't have been too tight. We should have known the moisture was going to come back up because the track is close to the river. Everyone wasn't expecting it to be that good in the feature. Most nights the track will start blowing off after 10 laps. It wasn't the finish we wanted, but every time we went on the track we moved forward so that's a plus."

Dover has a busy weekend on tap beginning on Thursday at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Neb., where he will drive a 305ci winged sprint car for Chris Roseland during a Sprint Series of Nebraska show. Dover will return to his 360 sprint car on Friday at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with the MSTS Series before capping the weekend on Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints.
