Cory Hedgecock Races to $10,000 World of Outlaws Win at 411
Adds $3,000 American Crate All-Star Win at North Georgia

LOUDON, Tenn. (04/24/23) – Another week and two more wins for Cory Hedgecock aboard his W.E. Hardscapes & Masonry / Noble Knights Construction Services / No. 23 Currin Construction / BMF Race Car / Eagle Racing Engine entries.

Cory raced to the $10,000 World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series win on Thursday night at Tennessee’s 411 Motor Speedway before pocketing $3,000 triumph with the American Crate All-Star Series presented by PPM on Saturday night at North Georgia Speedway.

With the pair of wins, his 2023-victory tally grew to six.

“Man, I love this place,” Hedgecock said in Victory Lane at 411 Motor Speedway. “This racetrack just treats me so well. We were just struggling with this car early on, just trying to figure out where we needed to be. But honestly, I think right now, I think tire choice helped us there.

“I think we were one of the very few that did what we did, and that’s why I think we were so fast on that restart.

Hedgecock stormed to the lead on a lap 31 restart.

“I got into [McDowell], but I had such a run,” Hedgecock said.  “Dale didn’t fire off good at all on that restart. Bronson was there, and I knew he and I had good cars, and when Marlar fell out, it was like, I think me and Bronson can win the race. And I was like, and it needed to happen now, unfortunately.

“I hate it. I mean, I love Dale to death, but it was just like I didn’t know what to do with the run, and I took advantage of it. There’s no doubt in my mind he owes me one, and I’ll take it. But I’ll take the win, too.”

Cory Hedgecock broke out his BMF Race Cars No. 23 Super Late Model on Thursday afternoon at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series-sanctioned Seymour Showdown.

With 47 Late Models packed in the pit area, Hedgecock followed up the sixth-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a runner-up performance in his heat.

Making his charge toward the front near the midway point of the 40-lap feature, Cory capitalized on a late-race caution on lap 31 to steal the top spot from Dale McDowell with a third-to-first move in turn one. He went on to capture his second-career World of Outlaws victory and a $10,000 prize ahead of Ricky Thornton Jr., Kyle Bronson, McDowell, and Ricky Weiss.

Aboard his Eagle Racing Engines No. 23 Crate Late Model on Saturday, Cory invaded North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Ala.) to compete with the American Crate All-Star Series for The Ridge and Valley 40.

With a dash victory placing him on the pole for the feature, Hedgecock dominated all 40 laps to record his sixth win of the season and a $3,000 payday. He was followed across the line by Booger Brooks, Seth Wimpey, Chip Brindle, and Brandon Williams.

“We’ve had a really good three weeks. Hopefully, this turns into the snowball effect,” Hedgecock shared following the North Georgia Speedway win.

Mike Marlar Tames Eldora for $23,023 Castrol Series Opener Win
Adds a Runner-Up Finish at Brownstown Speedway

WINFIELD, Tenn. (04/24/23) – Mike Marlar piloted his Delk Equipment Sales / Petroff Towing No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Longhorn Race Car / Clements Racing Engine to the $23,023 Castrol FloRacing Night in America victory last Tuesday night at Eldora Speedway.

The win was his second of the year and his first-ever with the miniseries.

“I’ve had so many heartbreaks up here at this track,” Marlar said in Victory Lane at Eldora Speedway, “and now I feel like I finally had one go my way there. My car started to go away there late in the race, and Hudson (O’Neal) got past me. He ran into trouble late and we got back to the lead and got the win.”

Mike Marlar made a mid-week trip to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Tuesday afternoon to pilot his Delk Equipment Sales No. 157 Super Late Model in the Castrol FloRacing Night in America tour opener.

Among a massive field of 54 Super Late Models, Mike claimed the fast time honors in qualifying with a 15.223-second lap before picking up a flag-to-flag victory in his heat race.

Rolling off from the pole for the feature, Marlar shot out to an early lead and led laps 1-43 but surrendered the top spot to Hudson O’Neal as the duo battled lapped traffic. Staying within striking distance, Mike regained the lead with three laps remaining and went onto claim his second win of the season and a $23,023 payday.

He took the checkers 1.034 seconds ahead of Tim McCreadie with Tanner English, Jonathan Davenport, and Brandon Sheppard rounding out the top-five.

With 56 Castrol FloRacing Night in America Super Late Models on the grounds on Wednesday at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.), Marlar followed up a convincing heat race win with a fourth-to-second run in the feature. He chased race-long pacesetter Ricky Thornton Jr. across the line with Devin Moran rounding out the podium.

The following night at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series-sanctioned Seymour Showdown, Mike secured his spot into the $20,000-to-win A-Main with an eight-lap heat victory. After leading laps 15-29, Marlar ran over a piece of debris while out front that ended his night early.

The team invaded Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday afternoon for the two-day Alabama Gang 100 but ended up scratching from their $4,000-to-win preliminary following his time trial session after recent weather made for rough track conditions.

“We were in contention there at Brownstown (Speedway) on Wednesday night, but the track started cleaning up just before halfway and Ricky (Thornton Jr.) was just a tick better. Thursday night at 411 (Motor Speedway) was a heartbreaker because I think we had the car to beat but got a flat. Just one of those deals,” Marlar shared.

Full results from the events are available at
www.FloSeries.com and www.WorldofOutlaws.com .

The upcoming weekend has Mike slated to be away from the driver’s seat as he will be assisting Delk Marlar Racing Development driver, Carson Brown at a pair of Super Late Model events.

As the team finalizes more events they’ll be posted at www.MikeMarlar.com .

Brandon Overton Bests WoO Bama Gang 100 for $50,000 Triumph
Wins $4,000 in Talladega Short Track Prelim One Night Earlier

EVANS, Ga. (04/24/23) – Brandon Overton enjoyed a successful and profitable weekend at Talladega Short Track with his Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Muscle Factory / Allstar Concrete / Longhorn Chassis by Wells Motorsports/ Clements Racing Engines - powered Super Late Model.

The Georgia racer started things with a $4,000 triumph in World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series prelim action on Friday night, and then added a $50,000 victory on Saturday evening in the Bama Gang 100 finale.

The victory was a major shot in the arm for Overton, who has battled bad luck over the past month.

"We needed this. I wasn't even gonna come here. You know, it took every ounce of energy for me to pull in this gate," said Overton, who also picked up $4,000 for his Friday semifeature victory in an event drawing a whopping 62 cars. "So thanks (to) a lot of good friends, my fiancée, you know, they're keeping us pumped up. Like I said, we really, really needed this, so we'll take 'em any way we can get 'em."

On Friday afternoon at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.), Brandon followed up the fastest lap in a massive 62-car field with a flag-to-flag victory in his 20-lap preliminary. He earned $4,000 for his sixth win of the 2023 campaign.

With his win on Friday locking him into the dash on Saturday evening, Overton gained two spots to finish second, which placed him on the front row for the Alabama Gang 100 main event.

Capitalizing on a late-race mishap for front-runner Bobby Pierce, Brandon grabbed the lead on lap 46 and led the final 15 circuits to claim his second win in as many nights and a whopping $50,000 prize.

His 20th- career World of Outlaws victory came ahead of Tanner English, Ryan Gustin, Jonathan Davenport, and Chris Madden.
Full results from the events are available at www.FloSeries.com and www.WorldofOutlaws.com .

Overton now turns his attention to a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) tripleheader in the northeast. Action opens on Friday at Georgetown (Del.) Bad Luck Bites Rocket1 Racing at Eldora; Fourth at Brownstown
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Tripleheader Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (04/24/23) – Hudson O’Neal seemed to be cruising to the $23,023 Castrol FloRacing Night in America victory at Brownstown Speedway on Tuesday night before a piece of debris cut his tire with just three laps remaining.

He rejoined the back of the pack and rebounded to a 12th-place finish aboard his Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model. The next night at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway he registered a fourth-place finish.

“The flat tire at Eldora (Speedway) was a tough one to swallow. There was a little piece of debris on the track that cut down a tire with just three laps remaining. Until that point this car was on an absolute rail. Then on Wednesday night at Brownstown (Speedway) we had a good car but passing got tough there during the second half of the feature, but we still came away with a fourth,” O’Neal said. “We’re definitely excited to be getting back to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action this weekend. It seems like forever since we raced with the series at East Bay (Raceway Park), and we ended things down there with a lot of momentum.”

Looking to defend their 2022 title, Rocket1 Racing invaded Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Tuesday afternoon with Hudson O’Neal piloting the Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Super Late Model in the 2023 Castrol FloRacing Night in America season opener.

Amassing a talented field of 54 Super Late Models, Hudson outran fellow front-row starter Shannon Babb in his heat race to pick up the win. Starting the feature in fifth, O'Neal lost a few spots early but began his pursuit for pole-starting Mike Marlar on lap 15 as the front-runner built a commanding lead on the field.

Tracking down Marlar with seven laps remaining, Hudson led the ensuing three circuits but contact with a piece of debris on the track flattened his right-front tire. He pitted for a fresh tire and rejoined the tail of the field before rebounding to 12th in the final rundown.

For another $23,023-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event on Wednesday at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway, Hudson clocked in third-fastest in his group before placing first in his heat race.

Clawing forward one spot in the 50-lap feature, O’Neal crossed the line in fourth, which came behind Ricky Thornton Jr., Mike Marlar, and Devin Moran with Dennis Erb Jr. in fifth.

With the first two events in the books, O'Neal is currently in a three-way tie for sixth in the Castrol FloRacing Night in America point standings.

Full results from the events are available at www.FloSeries.com .

Hudson will resume action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) this Friday-Sunday with a northeastern tripleheader. The swing opens with an $18,049-to-win event on Friday at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway before shifting to Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday for a $15,000-to-win race. The weekend draws to a close on Sunday evening at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway with a $10,000-to-win finale.

Hudson is second in the latest LOLMDS standings.

Ricky Thornton Jr. Wires Castrol FloRacing Field at Brownstown
Carries LOLMDS Point’s Lead into Three-Race Weekend

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (04/24/23) – Claiming his sixth win of the year, Ricky Thornton Jr. wired the Castrol FloRacing Night in America field on Wednesday night at Brownstown Speedway to secure the $23,023 victory aboard his SSI Motorsports / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Arizona native gave credit to crew chief Anthony Burroughs and Longhorn Chassis consultant Kevin Rumley for their hard work in getting the program to where it is today.

"Luckily, (Anthony) Burroughs works his tail off, him and (Kevin) Rumley, they really turned our program around here toward the end of last year," Thornton said in Victory Lane at Brownstown Speedway. "I felt like if I could've still went a little bit harder there at the end. I slowed myself down and tried to give myself a two- or three-car-length gap, that way if I had to race, I had the room to at least improve my pace. So it worked out for us. I gotta thank (Mike) Marlar for running us clean — I knew he would."

Ricky Thornton Jr. invaded Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Tuesday afternoon to kick off an action-packed week of racing with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America tour opener at the famed ½-mile oval.

Drawing 54 Late Models, Thornton posted the fourth-fastest qualifying lap in his group before placing second in his heat race. Locked into the seventh-starting position for the $23,023-to-win A-Main, Ricky gained one spot in the 50-lap affair to finish sixth.

With the field elevated to 56 cars on Wednesday at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway, Ricky qualified fourth-fastest in his time group before outrunning Bobby Pierce in his heat race to pick up the win.

Dominating from the second the green flag dropped in the feature, Thornton led flag-to-flag in the 50-lapper to claim his sixth win of the season and a $23,023 payday. He was followed across the finish line by Mike Marlar, Devin Moran, Hudson O’Neal, and Dennis Erb Jr.

Joining the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series on Thursday, Thornton trekked to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) to pilot his Big River Steel No. 20RT Super Late Model for the Seymour Showdown.

With a fourth-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the eighth row for the $20,000-to-win feature, Ricky passed 14 cars in the 50-lap affair to register a second-place finish. He followed Cory Hedgecock across the line with Kyle Bronson rounding out the podium.

The team planned to compete in the two-day Alabama Gang 100 at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday and Saturday but ended up scratching after time trials on Friday due to rough track conditions.

Full results from the events are available at www.FloSeries.com and www.WorldofOutlaws.com .

As the Midwest Sheet Metal Point Leader, Ricky will lead the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) contingent into battle this weekend as the tour embarks on a three-race swing. Festivities open on Friday at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway, where a whopping $18,049 top prize is on the line. From there the historic Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway welcomes the tour for a $15,000-to-win race on Saturday, and the weekend draws to a close with a $10,000 winner’s share up for grabs on Sunday evening at Port Royal (Pal.) Speedway.

Tanner Mullens Wins Ed Gressel Memorial Opener
USMTS Hamilton County Speedway Spring Classic Tripleheader on Deck

WICHITA, Kan. (04/24/23) Tanner Mullens claimed a $3,000 United States Touring Modified Series (USMTS) victory in the opening round of the Ed Gressel Memorial on Thursday night aboard his Mel Hambelton Ford / Sandlian Iron & Metal Auto Salvage No. 02 Bergman Tax & Accounting / Fuqua Trucking / Mullens Race Car Modified.

Mullens had the option to race for a bigger top prize after finishing second in the Kansasland Dash 4 Cash, but given his recent luck opted to forgo the chance at an added bonus.

“The luck we’ve been having I didn’t want to put ourselves any further behind,” Mullens said in 81 Speedway’s Victory Lane on Thursday night. “Obviously, (you’ve) got to keep your right rear under you and when I got to lapped traffic I just kind of left a gap there in case somebody got beside me, but I just didn't want to push it and get tangled up in there.”

“He kind of gave me my first taste to running USMTS and I’ll forever be grateful for that,” Mullens said of Ed Gressel who passed away last May and was a fixture at the 81 Speedway. “He was a really good guy and we’re all going to miss him.”

Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) ace Tanner Mullens opened the first night of the inaugural Ed Gressel Memorial at 81 Speedway in Victory Lane.

Thursday found Mullens dominating the opening round of the three-day event, which brought 53 Summit USMTS Dirt Modified competitors to the 3/8-mile, semi-banked oval in Park City, Kansas. Mullens drove his Mel Hambelton Ford No. 02 to quick time in his qualifying group and turned in a sixth-to-third place effort in his heat race, along with a runner-up finish in the Dash 4 Cash.

Mullens started the 30-lap feature from the second spot and jumped out to an early lead, with the Wichita, Kansas, native ultimately pacing all 30 circuits en route to a $3,000 payday. Mullens took the win by more than two seconds, with Jake Timm and Will Krup following Mullens under the checkered flag. The win was his third of the season and first of the year with USMTS.

Mullens turned in another strong performance on Friday evening, with a third-place effort in his qualifying group, backed up by wins in his heat race and dash. He started the 35-lap feature from the pole position, but just missed out on his second top five in two nights, coming home sixth on a night which boasted a total of 53 entries.

With 50 entrants on hand for Saturday’s finale, Mullens again turned in a top-five qualifying effort and took both heat race and dash wins for the second night in a row. Mullens, who once drove for Ed Gressel, accepted $6,000 to give up the pole position and start 12th in the weekend’s $10,000-to-win, 50-lap finale. However, transmission problems relegated him to a 19th-place finish.

Full results from the Ed Gressel Memorial are available at
www.usmts.com .

Summit USMTS competition roars on this Thursday – Saturday with the 13th annual Spring Classic tripleheader at Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa).

Tanner Mullens Racing would to like to thank all of their marketing partners, which include Mel Hambelton Ford, Sandlian Iron & Metal, BCC Signs & Graphics, Bergman Tax & Accounting, Doherty Brothers Construction, Knoche Farms, CPD Racing Shocks Hebbs Automotive & Machine, Integra Racing Shocks, Mullens Racing Chassis, Mullens Racing Engines, Mullens Fabrication, PEM Racing Gears & Drivetrain, Strength Roofing & Siding, Swift Springs, Velocita, Wehrs Machine, and MyRacePass  Marketing Services.

Starks Heading to Cottage Grove Speedway This Weekend for Spring Fling

Inside Line Promotions - PUYALLUP, Wash. (April 24, 2023) - Trey Starks is bound for Oregon this weekend to tackle a two-day sprint car event at the Cottage Grove Speedway.

The Spring Fling runs Friday and Saturday at the dirt oval in Cottage Grove, where Starks has four career feature victories.

"It is one of my favorite places to go race," he said. "We planned on getting there last year, but it didn't work out with a couple of rainouts and some scheduling conflicts."

The most recent time Starks visited the high-banked track was in August 2021 when he captured one of the oval's marquee events.

"The last time we were there was the Marvin Smith Memorial in 2021, which we won," he said. "Making it down there for a two-day show to kick off our season in the No. 55 should be exciting. Hopefully there will be a good field of cars. There looks to be some nice weather so I'm looking forward to getting down there.

"It's a smaller track that usually produces good, wide racing. I have a decent amount of laps and I think that contributes to our success there. I've been racing there since 2010 so I have history at that place. It's a fun track."

Dominic Scelzi Earns First Triumph of Season and First Career Win at Merced Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - MERCED, Calif. (April 24, 2023) - Dominic Scelzi captured his first feature victory of the season last Saturday during a Sprint Car Challenge Tour event at Merced Speedway.

Scelzi qualified second quickest in his group - and fifth overall out of the 40 drivers - before he won a heat race to advance into the dash. A run from fifth to third in the dash lined Scelzi up on the inside of the second row in the main event.

"That place notoriously takes rubber, but it always races good up to that point," he said. "They reworked the track before the feature. I ran fourth for a little bit and then got to third. First and second started racing and I was able to get by second. I raced the leader for three or four laps. We went back and forth before I was able to get the lead around halfway. Around 10 or 12 laps to go we had a restart. Carson (Macedo) drove up to second by that point. He and I slid each other for three or four laps before I was able to put it away and get away to lead the last eight laps or so untouched."

The victory was Scelzi's first of the season and first career at Merced Speedway. It marked his seventh career triumph with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

"It was cool to finally get a win there," he said. "I feel we've been in contention every time we've raced there and we've led a bunch of laps, but stupid stuff had kept us from winning. We've had awesome speed so it felt good to show some dominance on Saturday night."

The win had been on the horizon as Scelzi has been hamstrung while leading his previous two outings.

After advancing from 10th to third during the Dennis Roth Classic opener on April 14 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., Scelzi was leading the event finale the following night when contact with another competitor resulted in Scelzi crashing. He rallied from the back of the field to finish 10th.

Scelzi then kicked off last weekend on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., where he qualified third quickest in his group, placed third in a heat race and started on the outside of the front row in the A Main.

"We started second and took the lead," he said. "The track had big holes on the bottom and the top. They reworked it so it was fast in turns one and two. Turns three and four started getting slick so you could run the bottom or top. We were good in clean air, but lapped traffic was all over. We were just past the halfway point when a lapped car hit a hole, turned right and stopped right in front of me. I tried to spin to miss him, but slid him into him and got hit from behind."

The contact ended Scelzi's bid for the victory and he was credited with a 19th-place finish.

Fortunately, the team rebounded in a big way on Saturday with the win and looks to take that momentum into a NARC 410 Sprint Car Series race this Saturday at Antioch Speedway in Antioch, Calif.

Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Tackling Tri-City and Tri-State This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - WINDOM, Minn. (April 24, 2023) - Big Game Motorsports returns to action this weekend at a pair of elbows-up tracks following a dormant weekend.

Rain cancelled a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, last weekend. Next up will be races this Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

"The track on Friday I've only been to once at an ASCS show," Big Game Motorsports driver David Gravel said. "It's a cool shaped, high-banked 3/8 th mile. It seems to typically race pretty good from what I've seen."

Gravel rallied through a B Main before hustling for a 12th-place result during an ASCS National Tour race at Tri-City Speedway in August 2010.

Gravel has World of Outlaws wins at Tri-State Speedway in 2016 and in 2018.

"Haubstadt is a track we race at every year, but I haven't won there in a few years," he said. "It's a track I'm confident at.

"You have to be aggressive at a lot of tracks and know when to be and when not to be. Haubstadt can get you in trouble if you're too aggressive, but you can't be floating. You have to attack the race track."

Gravel enters the weekend ranked third in the World of Outlaws championship standings - only eight points behind second place and 20 points out of the lead.
