FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hedgecock Scores Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Scott Sexton Memorial Win at 411 Motor Speedway By Michael Despain, Series Publicist SEYMOUR, TENNESSEE – May 25, 2020 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com began its 2020 racing season on Monday evening at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN with the 8th Annual Scott Sexton Memorial and Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN would put his name in the record books and score the victory and pick up the $10,052 payday. The win for the 27-year old Hedgecock would be his second career series victory and would come behind the wheel of the E-Z-GO, Budget Transmissions, Ohlins Shocks, sponsored #23 Rocket Chassis, Eagle Race Engines powered entry. The green flag would fly over the 8th Annual Scott Sexton Memorial contest and Cory Hedgecock would jump to the race lead, with Jason Hiett, Scott James, Dale McDowell, and Donald McIntosh giving chase. The front-five would remain the same as Hedgecock began to lap slower traffic and the first caution of the race would appear when Jenson Ford’s entry would slow at the top of turn four. The restart would not see a lap completed before a tangle that would see Zach Dohm receive heavy front-end damage and end his race. Hedgecock would motor away on the restart, with Hiett, James, and McDowell holding second through fourth, while Colton Burdette would snag the fifth position away from McIntosh. Hedgecock would continue his torrid pace at the point as he would catch slower traffic once again by lap eighteen, however, the caution would appear for the third time in the race when sixth-place running Ryan King would spin his entry in turn four. The restart would see the front-three remain the same, while Burdette would drive past McDowell for the fourth position and by lap twenty-one, Booger Brooks would take the fifth position from McDowell, while Burdette would grab the third position away from James. The final caution of the event would appear on lap thirty-three when McIntosh would slow on the frontchute. The final restart would see Burdette scoot under Hiett to take the second position and set his sights on Hedgecock. By lap forty-one, Burdette had caught up to Hedgecock and would peak under the leader on a pair of occasions, but could not execute a pass. Hedgecock would change his line a bit at this point and would again pull away from the field over the closing laps to claim the victory. Burdette would settle for second, while Hiett completed the podium with a third. James and Kyle Hardy would complete the top five finishers. The remainder of the top ten at the finish would be Nick Hoffman, Cameron Marlar, David Crabtree, Jake Knowles, and Pearson Lee Williams. The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com next event will be Saturday May 30 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the Toyota of Knoxville 50, paying $10,000 to win.
