Jason Trammell Takes Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Firecracker 40 at Tazewell Speedway

By Michael Despain

TAZEWELL, TENNESSEE (July 3, 2020)– The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com would make its second appearance of the 2020 season at Tazewell Speedway on Friday evening for the Firecracker 40 and Jason Trammell of Powell, TN would score the biggest win of his racing career when captured the $5,000 to win event.

Trammell’s victory was his first career win with the series and also saw him become the fifth different winner in five series events so far this season. The win for Trammell would come aboard the Charlie Brown Sign Company, Dents-R-Us, Discount Auto Parts, King Roofing, Hatmaker Holding, Brucebilt Performance, Fast Lane Signs sponsored #90j Rocket Chassis, Vic Hill Race Engines powered entry.

Vic Hill would take the lead at the start of the event, with Donald McIntosh, Jason Trammell, Michael Chilton, and Ryan King in pursuit. Chilton would slow on the track on the backchute to draw the caution on lap two and would see a couple more drivers tangle behind Chilton’s machine, with Chilton being done for the night. The restart would also be called back for debris in turn four and once action resumed, Hill would maintain the lead, with McIntosh, Trammell, King, and Pearson Lee Williams giving chase. Hill and McIntosh would pull away from the field a bit and would start working slower traffic on lap eleven, while McIntosh would begin to pressure Hill for the lead by the halfway mark on lap twenty. McIntosh would look under Hill for the lead and would take it momentarily as the field started to complete lap twenty-four, but would end up spinning in turn two and would have a flat left-rear tire. The attempted restart would see Jake Knowles slow on the backchute and during this caution, race leader Hill would have to pull to the work area with a flat left-rear tire. The next attempted restart would see several cars get out shape in turn two, with Williams getting the worst of that exchange and only able to complete a few more laps before retiring for the evening. One more caution would delay the restart before action resumed, with Trammell maintaining the lead, with King in second, while Greg Estes, Dakotah Knuckles, and David Payne would settle into a battle for third. Trammell would lead the remainder of the way and score the victory, with King settling for second, while Knuckles would drive past Estes on the final lap to claim third, with Estes settling for fourth, while Payne completed the top five in fifth. McIntosh would end up sixth, followed by Knowles, Hill, Joey Standridge, and Austin Glass.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com next event will be Saturday July 4 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN, paying $5,000 to win.

By Michael Despain

BULLS GAP, TENNESSEE (July 4, 2020)– The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com would conclude America’s birthday weekend at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Saturday evening and Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN would lead all forty laps of the Schaeffer’s Oil A-Main to score the $5,000 payday and also become the repeat winner with the series in 2020.

Hedgecock’s checkered flag in the event would make it his third career Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would aboard his E-Z-GO, Budget Transmissions, Ohlins Shocks, sponsored #23 Rocket Chassis, Eagle Race Engines powered entry.

The start of the event would not see the first lap complete as a four-car melee in turn four involving David Payne, Robby Moses, Clay Coghlan, and Jeff Wolfenbarger would slow the contest on the opening lap. The race would then take the green flag and Cory Hedgecock would take the race lead, with Jensen Ford, Ryan King, Michael Chilton, and Kyle Strickler all in pursuit. King would take the fourth position away from Ford on lap four and Chilton would take third from Ford one circuit later, bring Strickler along with him to fourth. Hedgecock would flex his muscles out front and open up a comfortable advantage on King, while Donald McIntosh would make his way into the top five on lap nine, as Hedgecock would start the process of attempt to lap slower traffic on lap ten. The top five would maintain their spots the next five circuits until Chilton began to challenge King for the second spot and would take it on lap seventeen, with McIntosh sneaking past Strickler for the fourth position on the same lap. Hedgecock would catch a trio of slower cars by lap twenty-two and Chilton would begin to close the distance between himself and Hedgecock, however, Jake Knowles would have an engine issue on lap twenty-seven and draw the final caution of the race. Hedgecock would bring the field back to green, with Chilton holding second, while Strickler would jump past McIntosh for fourth and King and Strickler would trade sliders for the third spot on laps twenty-eight and twenty-nine before King would reclaim the third spot on lap thirty, but McIntosh would scoot past King to take third on lap thirty-one. Hedgecock would maintain a steady advantage over Chilton the remainder of the race and take the victory, with Chilton and McIntosh completing the podium finishers. King would finish fourth and Strickler would finish in fifth. The remainder of the top ten would be Logan Roberson, Vic Hill, Dakotah Knuckles, David Crabtree, and Jensen Ford.
