FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Trent Ivey Scores Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series Victory at Cherokee Speedway By Michael Despain GAFFNEY, SOUTH CAROLINA (July 14, 2019)– The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels would present race number two of its 2019 season tour on Sunday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC and Trent Ivey of Union, SC would score the biggest win of this career and claim his first-ever Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels triumph and a $10,000 payday. Ivey’s victory would make the second-generation driver the 38th different driver in tour history and would come behind the wheel of the Barfield’s Timber, Highway 29 Grill, Palmetto Coal and Piling sponsored #88 Longhorn Chassis, Clements Race Engines powered entry. Trent Ivey would take the lead at the start of the fifty-three lap, $10,000 to win contest, with Brandon Overton, Michael Brown, and Kyle Strickler, Donald McIntosh and Tanner English battling for the fifth position. Brown would take second from Overton on lap five and would pressure Ivey for the lead and would grab the lead, only to see a caution negate the pass when fourth-place Strickler would slow on the track in turn two. Another caution for debris on lap eight would also slow the action and once back underway, Ivey and Brown would settle into a battle for the lead and Brown looked to be set to make a move for the lead when the caution waved again on lap twenty for Christian Hanger who had stopped in turn two. During the caution, Brown would pull into the pits and be done for the night and McIntosh, who would be in third position at this point, would also pull into the work area, but would return to action. Ivey would control the restart, with Overton now in pursuit from second. Lap twenty-four would see the next caution when Dennis Franklin would slow on the frontchute and be done for the event. The restart would see English spin in turn two, with the trio of McIntosh, Doug Sanders, and Adam Yarbrough also tangling. Ivey would again control the restart and would maintain a comfortable advantage over Overton and would begin to work slower traffic when Cla Knight would slow in turn two on lap thirty-six to slow the action. This restart would see Overton stay close to Ivey, but caution for Derrick Ramey on lap forty-three would slow the action again. One final caution would appear on lap forty-six to set up a dash to the finish and Ivey would pull away from Overton and build almost a one second lead over the final laps to secure the victory, with Overton finishing second and Michael Page finishing third. Ross Bailes and 13th place starter Jake Knowles would complete the top five finishers. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Strickler (after restarting the rear of the field on lap seven), 17th place starting Benji Hicks, 19th place starter Matthew Nance, McIntosh (after two visits to the work area), and 18th place starter Cla Knight. The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuels next event will be Tuesday July 16 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, paying $3,500 to win.
