Gavin Landers Ready to Taste the Gumbo

Batesville, Arkansas (10/06/17) – Gavin Landers will be taking his Crop Production Services #77 ASC Warranty Sweet Bloomquist Super Late Model into battle this weekend as he pursues a $10,000 top prize in the 11th annual Gumbo Nationals.

“Greenville Speedway can be a wild place, but it seems like we’ve been getting better and better the past few times we’ve been there,” Landers said. “After last week’s rough ride at Batesville (Motor Speedway), we’re just hoping for a smooth and successful outing this weekend.”

Competing in the inaugural Race for Hope 74, Gavin Landers headed to Batesville Motor Speedway (Batesville, Arkansas) last Wednesday night in his Crop Production Services #77L Open Wheel Modified. In a field of 91 cars, Landers secured his spot into the opening night preliminary feature with a second-place finish in his heat race behind J.T. Goodson. Locking the Top 8 into the $20,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday evening, Gavin posted a 23rd-place outing.

The following night for another round of preliminary action, Gavin landed a runner-up finish in his heat behind Kurt Kile, sending him into the A-Main. Falling short of a Top 10 finish, Landers registered a 15th-place finish.

Returning to the 3/8-mile on Friday, Gavin started the night with a heat race victory, which locked him into the preliminary feature. From that point his luck took a turn for the worst. Battling for a Top-10 finish, Landers got squeezed into the wall, which sent him flipping violently. He was able to walk away from the scary incident unharmed while being credited with a 21st-place finish.

Due to extensive damage on his racecar, Landers’ weekend was over after his wreck on Friday night.

“That was probably the wildest thing I’ve ever had happen to me,” Landers recollected. “It really made me appreciate just how important quality safety equipment truly is. It allowed me to walk away uninjured.”

Tyler Erb Set to Defend Gumbo Nationals Title

New Waverly, Texas (10/06/17) – On the heels of a runner-up finish in last weekend’s Deep Fried 75 at Duck River Raceway Park, Tyler Erb is set to defend his Gumbo Nationals title in his First Class Septic #91 New Point Lighting and Design/ Rocket XR1 Chassis /Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Last Friday night brought Tyler Erb to Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tennessee) for the 6th annual Deep Fried 75. Drawing 30 Super Late Models for the two-day unsanctioned event, Erb followed up the fifth fastest time in qualifying with a third-place finish in his heat race.

Earning the eighth-starting position for the $14,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday evening, Tyler worked his way into the Top 5 on the bottom side and began closing in on race-leader Brandon Overton near the halfway point of the 75-lapper. Erb would get within a car length of Overton before settling into a runner-up finish late in the event. Dane Dacus, Jason Jameson, and Frank Heckenast Jr. rounded out the Top 5.

“On that late-race restart I thought maybe I could drive up under Overton in turn one and two, but he was just better than I was,” said Erb. “He could use the whole race track and for like 50 laps I had to charge, squirt, stop, and my tires were killed. Starting eighth, I think it was pretty good, because I don’t think it was a whole lot of passing.”

This weekend – October 6-7 – will take Tyler and the team to Mississippi as they look to defend their Gumbo Nationals title from 2016. The $10,000-to-win event is sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS).
