Chris Ferguson Wins Bristol Dirt Nationals Opener
Sets Sights on WoO Rock Gault Memorial Mega Payday

MT. HOLLY, N.C. (03/24/21) – Chris Ferguson officially scratched an achievement off the bucket list on Friday night. The driver known as “Fergy” piloted his Diff-Tran Machining No. 22 K and K Trucking/ Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry Super Late Model to a victory at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway.

The triumph was worth $10,000 and came during the opening round of the inaugural Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals at the hallowed, ½-mile oval.

“This is crazy,” Ferguson said to a DirtOnDirt.com reporter shortly after leaving the Bristol Motor Speedway victory lane stage. “I was 10 or 12 years old whenever they had this race (in 2001) and I was up in the stands watching Scott pass Freddy Smith on the last lap for the win here. It just seems so far away to make it to this point in my career, but here we are.

“I think every year we get a little bit closer to the top of the sport. Last year we kind of turned the page winning some big races. This is the biggest stage of the year so far. Hopefully, this kind of launches us into a spot where we’re considered one of the best. Everybody says you hit your prime after your 30s in Dirt Late Models. Maybe this is my time.”

Chris Ferguson invaded the famed Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon to kick off the two-day Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals.

Against a field of 55 Super Late Models, Ferguson laid down the fastest lap in his time trial group before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory. Earning the pole position for the opening night feature, Chris shot into the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, leading flag-to-flag in the 25-lap affair to capture his first win of the season and a $10,000 prize. He took the checkers ahead of Kyle Larson, Jonathan Davenport, Scott Bloomquist, and Chris Madden.

On Saturday afternoon, Chris followed up the fastest lap in field of 49 cars with a heat race win over Bobby Pierce. Locked into the pole for the $50,000-to-win Bristol Dirt Nationals finale, Ferguson paced the field for the first 10 circuits until Kyle Larson snuck by on the 11th lap. Fading outside the Top-5 late in the 50-lapper, Chris Ferguson landed a seventh-place finish when the checkered flag flew.

This weekend, Chris Ferguson returns to familiar territory as he sets his sights on a career payday. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will sanction the Rock Gault Memorial at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.). The weekend opens with the field split into twin $5,000-to-win programs on Friday night, while Saturday’s program boasts a $40,000 top prize.

Gregory Tackling ASCS National Tour Debut This Weekend at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - POPLAR GROVE, Ark. (March 24, 2021) - This weekend presents the start of a new opportunity for Paxton Gregory, who is focusing on 360ci winged sprint car competition in 2021.

Gregory will be making his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., where the national traveling series will be joined by the ASCS Mid-South Region on Friday and Saturday.

"This year is my first year in a 360," he said. "We're going to run the ASCS Mid-South Region full time and we will probably do some ASCS Lone Star Region and ASCS Sooner Region races as well. On our off weekends I plan on racing the 305 at some big shows.

"Coming off the 2019 Mid-South Sprint Car Association championship and running second last year with the series I'd really like to win the ASCS Mid-South Region championship and Rookie of the Year Award as we move up. That's my biggest goal for this year."

The first big show of the year is this weekend at a bullring where Gregory has visited a handful of times.

"We've run maybe five shows there and I think we have a couple of top 10s," he said. "Last year we ran 10th during an ASCS Mid-South Region race last September.

"In hot laps the track can either be slick or tacked up or dusty. You don't know what you're going to get. What I really like about the place is there's different racing lines. And with the competition that comes through that track, you never stop learning."

Learning is certainly a focus this year as Gregory transitions to the 360 sprint car ranks and this weekend offers the first test.

"We have our standards pretty high," he said. "I don't want to get too big of a head thinking we'll run in the top five. Those national guys bring their 'A' game week in and week out. We hope to keep it on all four and make the show. If we can do that we'll see where we can go from there."

Mallett Starts Season by Winning USCS Series Event at Deep South Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LOXLEY, Ala. (March 24, 2021) - Jordon Mallett scored his first victory of the season in only his second start of the year Saturday night during the USCS Gulf Coast Shootout finale at Deep South Speedway.

The win backed up a solid sixth-place finish during the USCS Series opener on Friday.

"It's a good change of pace to start the year like that with a win," he said. "We worked really hard as a team in the offseason so it's a rewarding feeling to come out of the gate with a win and our morale is through the roof."

Friday night began in a heat race, in which Mallett moved forward one position to finish second. He started eight in the feature and on a track that proved tough to pass on, Mallett advanced two positions to finish sixth.

"We didn't unload as good as we wanted to and I didn't really know what the car wanted to do until about halfway through the feature," he said. "It was our first race of the year and their first race as a track, so I think overall it was just a good learning night to set us up for Saturday."

Mallett returned to the dirt oval on Saturday night and he advanced three positions in a heat race to place third. Mallett landed on the pole for the A Main thanks to the feature inversion. A trio of cautions halted his momentum during the first half of the feature. However, with the second half of the feature going non-stop Mallett was able to maneuver through traffic and hold off a late-race charge from Greg Wilson to claim the victory.

"We were quickest in hot laps and that was good for us to know that we had something for them right away," Mallett said. "Once we had the pole I knew it was just a matter of not making any mistakes and handling lapped traffic.

"Some people don't like starting up front and leading as you're almost a sitting duck out there and you've got to really play your cards right. But we had such a good race car that it was really going to take a lot for us to lose it. I was just hitting my marks and being smart."

With his schedule currently up in the air and racing still an unknown due to COVID-19 restrictions throughout the country, the early season win was a relief for Mallett. Not only was it great to get out and turn competitive laps, but he was able to showcase his talents in front of his family and sponsors.

"We had a bunch of friends and family in the crowd and our sponsors were out in full support to cheer us on," he said. "Last year was tough for everyone and you can take for granted having those people there. I'm so proud to get them a win as it's so rewarding for those who stuck it out with us through 2020."

Next up for Mallett is a trip to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday and Saturday.

"We are coming in feeling confident about our program and it's always great when we can race in Arkansas," he said. "This year is all about chasing wins and being competitive. I'm really excited to get back on track and keep this ball rolling."

Tim Kaeding Filling in for Alex Hill During ASCS National Tour Tripleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (March 24, 2021) - The Hill's Racing Team No. 77x will have a fill-in driver this weekend for Alex Hill, who is unable to tackle the trio of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour shows because of a school commitment.

Veteran Tim Kaeding will drive for the team on Thursday at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, and Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

"I'll miss racing this weekend, but I'm happy that Tim Kaeding will be driving my car at Superbowl and I-30 earning owner points for us," Hill said.

Misfortune plagued Hill's opening weekend of the 2021 racing season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Friday and Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

"Our weekend didn't go too well," she said. "I was learning to drive a new car and we had some other matters that kept us from having a better weekend.

"Our new car didn't fit quite right for me. It's not the same getting fitted for a new car in the shop compared to when you're racing it, but we made some adjustments and got it better."

Hill began her first race of the year by starting ninth in her 10-car heat race.

"I made a mistake in the heat race and barely grazed the infield tire," she said. "I really didn't think there was any damage, but then I spun out from the damage that was done to the front end, which ended my race. That gave us a deep starting position in a B Main. I was able to move up a little bit, but not enough to get a transfer position."

Hill started and parked the main event after utilizing a provisional.

A unique situation at the start of her heat race on Saturday put Hill in the hole early.

"At the start of the race one of the cars went twirling in the air as I went by him," she said. "Then I saw red lights and stopped, figuring it was a red because he flipped. It turned out he didn't flip over and landed on his tires. The red lights I saw were from the ambulances, which were on the inside and outside of the track. So I had to restart at the back since I stopped. I was able to get back to finish where I started (sixth), but that was it."

Hill started her B Main in sixth and was running in a transfer spot when misfortune struck again.

"I dropped back to about eighth for a bit and then moved forward into a transfer spot," she said. "I was racing for fifth with a handful of laps left when a guy spun in front of me, leaving me nowhere to go and I flipped. My car wasn't damaged real bad, but enough to put me out of the race."

Hill's next race will be April 2-3 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., with the ASCS Sooner Region and ASCS Warrior Region.

Krimes Earns Early Season Win at Lincoln Speedway to Break Year-Long Winless Drought

Inside Line Promotions - ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (March 24, 2021) - Alan Krimes used a late-race pass on defending track champion Freddie Rahmer to pick up his first win of the season at Lincoln Speedway last Saturday.

"It's always nice to get a win early and everything just kind of went our way to end up in Victory Lane," he said. "Sometimes you wonder if it's all worth it when you are not running well. So to have speed early and get a win will do a lot for our team as we move forward through 2021."

With brisk temperatures expected track officials moved the start time for the event up two hours and Krimes began the night by finishing where he started - third - in a heat race to earn the sixth starting position in the A Main.

Krimes stayed glued to the bottom of the race track in the feature and had worked into the third position by Lap 10. Following a caution on Lap 14, Krimes' car came in and three laps later he took over the runner-up spot and set his sights on the lead.

With the leader running in heavy traffic, Krimes slowly began to reel him in and with eight laps to go he was all over his tail tank. Three laps later Krimes got a run exiting turn four and beat the leader to the line to claim the top spot. He went untouched for the remaining five laps to score the $4,000 victory by a margin of 1.864 seconds.

"They watered the top before the feature and it really helped our car and the track quite a bit," he said. "I was able to roll the bottom in turns one and two and I was really able to go anywhere in turns three and four. Any time you get more than one groove you can't ask for much more. I'm just really happy for our sponsors and my team."

Not only did the victory break a year-long winless drought for the Dover, Pa., native, but it moved him into 16th on the track's all-time wins list past National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Don Kreitz. Jr. with 22 career victories.

"I don't know why but I saw the win list about a month and a half ago and I kind of surprised myself that I was up that high," Krimes said. "Any time you can be in that kind of company with a guy like Donnie Kreitz Jr. you know you've done something right and it makes you feel good."

Krimes will run Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for car owner Stewart Smith in his No. 27 and then return to his family owned No. 87 on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway.

While Krimes has plans to hit some higher paying shows later in the year on Saturday nights, his current focus is at Lincoln Speedway, where he's a two-time track champion. He enters this weekend fourth in the championship standings - only 60 markers out of first.

"As of now the plan is to get out and run some of the bigger shows elsewhere, but for now we'll be at Lincoln," he said. "I'd really like to get another championship before my career is up so we'll keep working at it at Lincoln and kind of see where we are when that time comes."
