Mike Marlar Races to Red Cedar WoO Victory
Huset’s Speedway and I-80 Speedway Next on the Schedule

WINFIELD, Tenn. (07/18/22) – Mike Marlar saw his extended week of racing draw to a close with a Sunday night World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series victory at Red Cedar Speedway aboard his Delk Equipment Sales / Tri-Rivers Enterprises No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Longhorn Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Marlar had to power past early leader Ricky Weiss to get his seventh win of the year.

“When I took off, my right rear tire didn’t fire like I wanted it to,” Marlar said. “It was kind of just not going very good. So, when that happened, I was just kind of no good for a few laps there, and then we had that caution, and I scrubbed it around under caution and felt it was gripping a little better.

“We’ve been really consistent here lately, and we’re looking forward to Huset’s (Speedway) and I-80 (Speedway) this week. There’s some big money on the line, and we’re going to see if we can’t win as much of it as possible.”

Monday saw Mike Marlar return to action at Stuart Speedway (Stuart, Iowa) for the two-day event with the XR Super Series.

With a heat win placing him on the second row for the opening night feature, Marlar lost one spot in the 50-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Jonathan Davenport, Tim McCreadie, and Ryan Gustin across the line with Chad Simpson in fifth.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mike fended off a charging Ryan Gustin in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Holding his fifth-starting position in the 50-lap feature, Marlar raced to his 11th consecutive top-five finish with a fifth-place outing. He trailed Chris Madden, Bobby Pierce, Jonathan Davenport, and Jimmy Owens to the checkers.

Back in action on Friday, Marlar trekked north to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, N.D.) to compete with the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main via a second-place finish in his heat, Mike gained three spots to register a third-place finish.

With Saturday’s program at I-94 Sure Step Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minn.) falling to Mother Nature, Mike traveled to Red Cedar Speedway (Menomonie, Wis.) on Sunday for the weekend finale. Receiving the pole for the feature via the redraw, Marlar stole the lead from fellow front-row starter Ricky Weiss on the sixth circuit and led the remainder of the 40-lapper to claim his seventh win of the season and a $10,000 payday. He recorded his 10th World of Outlaws triumph ahead of Ricky Weiss, Dennis Erb Jr., Shane Clanton, and Jimmy Mars.

This week – July 19 – 23 – Marlar will enter four nights of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competition. Dale McDowell Doubles Down in Southern Nationals Victory Lane
12th Annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals Up Next

MOORESBURG, Tenn. (07/18/22) – Dale McDowell visited Victory Lane twice over the weekend with his Shane McDowell Racing/ E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets/ Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Team Zero Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer won back-to-back $10,053-to-win events on Saturday and Sunday at Wythe Raceway and Volunteer Speedway to push his 2022-win total to five.

After registering a sixth-place finish in the miniseries opener on Friday night at Beckley Motorsports Park, McDowell had to rally from the ninth-starting spot to win Saturday’s event at Wythe Raceway.

“We really kind of gave up — or I didn't give up — but we really was lost and didn't know exactly what to do," McDowell said. "We made some mistakes in the heat and was a little bit off qualifying. And so (Dale's brother) Shane (McDowell) kept digging, kept digging, kept digging, and made some adjustments, and the car drove right up through there so it was really good."

Then on Sunday night not even an hour-and-a-half rain delay or a tough field of competitors could slow him down at Volunteer Speedway. He again took control of the lead late in the race for his second win in as many nights.

“Well this place is just awesome and these great race fans make it all worth it,” exclaimed McDowell in Schaeffer’s Oil Victory Lane.  “This track got slick and that’s more this old man’s speed.  Earlier there (in the feature), Jensen fired off good and I didn’t know if I was going to have anything for him - I was a little free.  But once it slickened up and we couldn’t charge the corners as hard, the car balanced out.  I need to thank E-Z-GO, Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, Cometic Gaskets, CSA, Fox Racing Shox, Northeastern Fabrication, the entire team, and just everybody that makes this thing go around.  I always look forward to coming to this place, as it’s been awfully good to me through the years!”

Friday night found Dale McDowell in action at Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.V.), piloting the Shane McDowell Racing No. 17m Late Model in the 2022 Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals opener.

With 32 Late Models entered, McDowell qualified third-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat. Carrying a steady pace in the 53-lap feature, Dale crossed the finish line in sixth.

For the second round of the 12-race tour on Saturday at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.), Dale’s third-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the fifth row for the main event. Tracking down race-leader Cory Hedgecock with a pass in turn one on lap 37, McDowell raced to his fourth win of the season ahead of Hedgecock, Michael Brown, Vic Hill, and Camaron Marlar. He earned $10,053 for his eighth career Schaeffer's Southern Nationals triumph.

Action continued on Sunday evening at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.), where 31 entries had to wait out over an hour rain delay before qualifying. When action resumed, Dale hit the ground running with an 11.926-second lap around the 4/10-mile oval, which marked the fastest overall. He then won his heat race to earn the pole position for the feature.

As the 53-lap feature went green, McDowell slipped to second behind Jensen Ford. He pursued the leader until lap 34, when he raced to the top spot. McDowell paced the remainder of the event to bank the $10,053 victory, which marked his fifth of the season.

Jensen Ford, Mack McCarter, Sam Seawright, and Dakota Knuckles completed the Top-5 finishers.

Cory Hedgecock Victorious in Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Opener
Miniseries Action Continues on Tuesday at I-75 Raceway

LOUDON, Tenn. (07/18/22) – Cory Hedgecock topped the opening round of the 2022 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals on Friday night in his E-Z-GO / Noble Knights Construction Services No. 23 Budget Transmission / K&P Used Cars / Black Diamond Race Car / Eagle Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Cory’s fourth-career miniseries triumph marked his ninth overall win of the 2022 season. He received $10,053 for his victory.

“We will take them any way we can get them, but who would have thunk it,” noted Hedgecock in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “This car was just badass all night long. (Ashton) Winger got us in the heat race, but I knew we had a good car. Then we got by Will (Roland) in the feature, and they started having flats in front of me. I finally started to calm down late in the race and man this is just so awesome. We haven’t won in a while, but that can flip in an instant, so hopefully we can get on a roll here. I have to thank all of my great sponsors, my family, my wife, and baby.”

Cory Hedgecock kicked off his pursuit for the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals championship on Friday afternoon with a visit to Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.) for the opener of the 12-race tour.

With 32 Late Models entered for the Black Gold 53, Hedgecock laid down the third-fastest time in his group before placing second in his heat. Overtaking the lead on lap 18 of the feature when the leaders suffered a pair of flat tires, Cory went on to capture his ninth win of the season and a $10,053 prize.

He recorded his fourth-career Southern Nationals triumph ahead of Jensen Ford, Zack Mitchell, Will Roland, and Jacob Hawkins.

For another $10,053-to-win A-Main on Saturday afternoon at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.), Cory’s third-place finish in his heat pinned him on the fourth row for the feature. Improving five spots in the 53-lap affair, Hedgecock raced to a runner-up finish, which came behind Dale McDowell.

On Sunday afternoon at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.), Hedgecock pulled pitside on lap 42 of the feature with a flat tire and a broken lift-bar after charging up to third from the ninth-starting position. He was credited with a 19th-place finish.

“Sunday night’s outcome resulted in my heartbreak and frustration being at an all-time high. I think we had the car to beat, but after I jumped the cushion that all went away. It’s part of the game I know, so we’ll regroup and get ready for Tuesday at I-75 (Raceway),” Hedgecock said.

Cory is currently tied for second in the latest Schaeffer's Southern Nationals point standings.

The latest series standings and complete results are available at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com .

Rocket1 Racing Rounds Out Week with Podium in the CMH Diamond Nationals
Next on Tap: Huset's Speedway and I-80 Speedway

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (07/18/22) – Rocket1 Racing and Brandon Sheppard rounded out a busy week with a podium finish on Saturday night in the CMH Diamond Nationals in the Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The team was able to end things on a strong note after a frustrating start to the weekend.

“After going back to West Virginia to build a new car, we returned to action on Thursday night at I-70 (Motorsports Park) with a really fast hot rod. We looked to be on the way to the win, but a mechanical failure knocked us out with two laps to go. It was really deflating,” Sheppard said. “We were pretty good on Friday at Tri-City (Speedway) and got a Top-5 finish, and then we rounded things with a podium finish on Saturday at Wheatland (Lucas Oil Speedway).

“We’re looking forward to racing for the first time at Husets (Speedway) on Tuesday night, and then we’re gearing up for a run at another Silver Dollar Nationals title. Last but not least, I can’t say enough about this team and how hard they are working right now. They are giving 110% effort 24/7, and it’s awesome to see.”

Rocket1 Racing returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Thursday afternoon with Brandon Sheppard piloting a brand-new Rocket Chassis Super Late Model at the newly reopened I-70 Motorsports Park (Odessa, Mo.).

After picking up the Allstar Performance Fast Time honors with a 15.4780-second lap in time trials, Sheppard topped Tim McCreadie in his heat race to pick up the win. Starting on the pole for the feature, Brandon stole the lead from Jimmy Owens on lap 12 and looked to have the field covered when he slowed as he was coming to the white flag with engine issues. He was credited with a 13th-place finish.

The following night at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) for the NAPA Know How 50, Brandon followed up a runner-up finish in his heat race with an eighth-to-fifth showing in the 50-lap feature.

On Saturday evening at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the CMH Diamond Nationals, Sheppard secured his spot into the $15,000-to-win weekend finale with a second-place finish in his heat.

Rolling off on the fourth row, Brandon moved forward four spots in the 50-lap affair to register a third-place finish. He followed Johnny Scott and Jimmy Owens to the checkers.

Brandon sits in second in the latest LOLMDS point standings.

Johnny Scott Races to $15,000 Career Win in Diamond Nationals
Team Set for Silver Dollar Nationals this Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (07/18/22) – Saturday night found Johnny Scott putting an exclamation point on his week behind the wheel of his Rancho Milagro Racing No. 1st Mesilla Valley Transportation/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engines Super Late Model.

The New Mexico native stormed to the richest win of his young career with a $15,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) / Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) triumph in the Diamond Nationals at Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway.

“It’s a heck of a night,” said Johnny Scott, whose previous wins this season at Wheatland came in April 22’s Lucas Oil MLRA Spring Nationals and May 27’s Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson that preceded the Show-Me 100. “I’ve been trying so hard to win these Lucas Oil races, so it’s a relief to finally get (another) one.

“I just gotta thank all my crew. Without them, none of this would be possible,” Scott said. “And without my brother and his crew, nothing of this would be possible either. They help me a ton on this car. I’m just glad we could finally put it all together tonight.”

Both Johnny and Stormy Scott opened their week with a visit to Stuart Speedway (Stuart, Iowa) on Monday afternoon for the opening round of the XR Super Series-sanctioned Fever Heat 100.

With 42 Late Models entered, Stormy secured his spot into the opening night feature with a second-place finish in his heat race, while Johnny had to rely on a provisional to start the finale. With $20,000 on the line, Stormy recorded an 11th-place finish while Johnny retired early.

For another $20,000-to-win A-Main on Tuesday, Johnny finished second in his heat race, while Stormy outdueled Tyler Erb in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Both drivers held their starting spot in the 50-lap feature, with Stormy crossing the line in sixth and Johnny trailing him in seventh.

On Thursday, Johnny continued his pursuit for the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) championship with a trip to the newly reopened I-70 Motorsports Park (Odessa, Mo.) for another event co-sanctioned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). Slated to start the feature in 10th via a 4th-place finish in his heat race, Scott suffered a broken fuel and power steering pump during the pace laps that prevented him from completing a lap.

The following night with Johnny taking the evening off, Stormy followed the LOLMDS to Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) for the NAPA Know How 50. Earning the ninth-starting position for the feature via a third-place finish in his heat, Scott was an early retiree from the 50-lapper after drawing the race’s lone caution on the 12th circuit. He was credited with a 24th-place finish.

On Saturday with Johnny rejoining Stormy at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the CMH Diamond Nationals, Johnny recorded the quickest lap in time trials before placing second in his heat race after suffering a flat tire on the last lap. Starting the feature in fifth, Johnny sailed past Jimmy Owens for the lead on the second circuit and led the remainder of the 50-lapper to capture a career high payday and his fifth win of the season. He pocketed $15,000 ahead of Jimmy Owens, Brandon Sheppard, Mark Burgtorf, and Kyle Strickler. Stormy crossed the line in 19th after utilizing a provisional to start the A-Main.

The team now sets their sights on this week’s 12th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals weekend at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Neb.). Action opens on Thursday with the $12,000-to-win Dirt Track Bank Go 50, before seeing the $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals contested on Friday and Saturday.

Busy Week of Winged Sprint Car Action on Tap

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (07/18/22) – Ryan Timms piloted the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 97K iBUYPOWER.com / Toyota Midget to the victory in the opening round of the Mid-America Midget week last Tuesday at Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway.

The USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget win marked his 10th overall win of the season.

Timms overtook veteran Thomas Meseraull for the lead on lap 13 and set sail to claim the win by 0.993 seconds.

“After the micro sprint feature, I knew the bottom was definitely going to be a lot better,” Timms noted following the victory. “I started on the outside and just got down there as quickly as I could, then just waited for T-Mez to make a mistake, capitalized on it, then went from there.

“We were contenders the rest of the week but came up short of winning again. In fact, we were coming to the checkered flag in the lead on Saturday night, and just as I got to the line they threw the caution, and on the restart I got collected with another car. It was pretty disappointing, but these Midgets are a blast to drive, and I’m learning something new every time I get behind the wheel. A big thanks to everyone, who makes this opportunity possible.”

Ryan Timms hopped behind the wheel of the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 97K USAC Midget on Tuesday afternoon as the Mid-America Midget Week kicked off at Red Dirt Raceway (Meeker, Okla.).

With 27 USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series entries on the grounds, Timms stopped the clock third-fastest overall before placing fourth in his heat race.

After losing a few spots on the initial restart, Ryan tracked down early leader Thomas Meseraull by lap 12 and made a pass for the lead on the bottom on the 13th circuit. Leading the remaining distance of the 30-lapper, Ryan raced to his 10th win of the season ahead of Justin Grant, Meseraull, Brenham Crouch, and Buddy Kofoid.

The following night at Solomon Valley Raceway (Beloit, Kan.), Ryan’s second-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the eighth row for the feature. Charging through the field 13 spots, Timms steered to a third-place finish in the 30-lap affair. He followed Thomas Meseraull and Buddy Kofoid across the line.

In a field of 25 USAC Midgets on Friday at Jefferson County Speedway (Fairbury, Neb.), Timms followed up the fourth-fastest time in his group with a runner-up finish in his heat. After leading three laps early in the main event, Ryan crossed the line in second, trailing Mitchell Moles to the checkers.

For the $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday at the 1/5-mile Nebraska oval, Ryan secured his spot into the A-Main with a fourth-place finish in his heat race. Rolling off sixth for the feature, Timms took part in a heated battle for the lead and looked to be on his way to the spirited victory. Unfortunately, the caution flag flew just as Ryan was about to take the checkered flag, and the main event was extended by one circuit to 41 laps.

On the ensuing restart disaster struck as Timms and the second-place car collided, and the pair slid over the turn two banking. He was relegated to a disappointing 11th-place finish in the final rundown.
