Dale McDowell Races to Second-Career COMP Cams Topless 100 Crown
Rewarded with $50,000 Winner’s Check at Batesville Motor Speedway
MOORESBURG, Tenn. (08/21/23) – Dale McDowell was $50,000 richer after topping Saturday night’s 31st annual COMP Cams Topless 100 presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions aboard his Shane McDowell Racing / E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets / Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Connected Strategy Advisors / Team Zero Race Cars / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
From the third-starting spot McDowell took control on lap 35 and never looked back in the 100 lapper en route to his second triumph in the mega event.
“My brother Shane [McDowell] made some awful good adjustments. First off, I need to thank the Good Lord above for allowing me to get through my health issues a couple of years ago and get back and do this. Thank goodness it wasn’t my time to get out of the sport. What a race and what a crowd here for us,” McDowell said in Victory Lane. “To come here and see this crowd, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this big of a crowd here. It’s awesome. I want to thank you race fans for supporting this event and everybody it takes to put on this race. Thank you.”
Shane McDowell Racing returned to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Friday afternoon at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) with Dale McDowell piloting the E-Z-GO No. 17m Super Late Model for the 31st running of the COMP Cams Topless 100.
With 64 Late Models on the grounds for the two-day event co-sanctioned with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS), Dale qualified second-fastest in his 32-car group before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory.

Locked into the second row for Saturday night’s COMP Cams Topless 100 finale, McDowell powered ahead of early leader Jonathan Davenport on lap 35 and controlled the remainder of the 100-lapper to claim his ninth win of the season and a second victory in the event after winning the 2004 Topless 100.
He grabbed the $50,000 payday ahead of Jonathan Davenport, Ricky Thornton Jr., Devin Moran, and Tim McCreadie.

Tanner Mullens Banks $25,000 Career Win in USMTS Silver Jubilee
Adds $8,000 in Bonus Money to Signature Triumph
WICHITA, Kan. (08/21/23) – Tanner Mullens raced to a career victory on Saturday night with his Mel Hambelton Ford / Sandlian Iron & Metal Auto Salvage No. 02 Bergman Tax & Accounting / Fuqua Trucking / Mullens Race Car Modified.
He collected a career-best $25,000 payday in the finale for the USMTS Silver Jubilee at Mason City Motor Speedway. He charged past Jim Chisholm to take the top spot on the 48th circuit of the 75-lap affair.
Additionally, he banked over $8,000 more for lap leader money and bonuses to bring his Saturday night take to north of $33,000.
“I could tell [Jim Chisholm] was getting tight,” Mullens said in Victory Lane, regarding his pass for the lead. “He was trying to enter a little lower and shoving the nose there, but I don’t know that I ever would’ve gotten by him if he wouldn’t have messed up. I was entering lower, trying to prevent what he did. We just managed to hang on there until the end.
“It [the car] wasn’t as good as what we were here Thursday night, but it was really good. Man, this is crazy. This is it here. It’s a lot of money Todd [Staley] put up and all the sponsors and I can't thank him enough. This helps us get up and down the road so much and it supports my entire family.”
Tanner Mullens continued the 2023 season on Thursday afternoon at Mason City (Iowa) Motor Speedway as his qualifying night came to life for the 25th Anniversary United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Silver Jubilee.
Dividing the 71-car field in two groups for prelims on Wednesday and Thursday, Mullens topped his time trial group on Thursday with a blistering 15.095-second lap before going sixth-to-second in his heat race.
Rolling off from the pole of his preliminary feature, Tanner led wire-to-wire in the 25-lap affair to claim his sixth win of the season and a $1,000 prize. He finished 3.905 seconds ahead of Lucas Schott with Will Krup, Jeremy Nelson, and Jim Chisholm rounding out the top-five.
With Thursday’s prelim victory placing him on the front row for Saturday night’s Silver Jubilee finale, Tanner stalked early front-runners Dereck Ramirez and Jim Chisholm before making his move to the lead past the halfway point of 78-lapper.
Charging ahead of Chisholm on lap 48, Mullens kept Dan Ebert at bay despite a handful of late cautions to claim his seventh win of the season and $25,000 payday, which marked the richest of his career.
Tanner was also awarded with over $8,000 in additional lap leader and bonus money.
He notched his 10th-career USMTS victory ahead of Ebert, Jake O’Neil, Rodney Sanders, and Clayton Wagamon.
Tanner is currently in fifth in the latest USMTS point standings.

“We were fast in hot laps on Friday night, but then we didn’t have the best qualifying lap, so we got buried to start the night. We bounced back for a good run in Friday’s prelim feature, and had high hopes for Saturday. Unfortunately passing got difficult as the feature went on, and I was only able to pick up a few spots,” O’Neal said. “We’re already full speed ahead preparing for three Lucas Oil (Late Model Dirt Series) events this week, and we look forward to seeing a lot of great fans this weekend.”
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) action brought the Rocket1 Racing team and Hudson O’Neal to Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Friday for the opening round of the two-day COMP Cams Topless 100.
With 64 cars entered for the event, which was co-sanctioned with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS), O’Neal earned a spot in the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature with a consolation victory after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat race.
Wheeling his way into the top-10, Hudson passed 11 cars in the 30-lapper to score an eighth-place finish.
With Friday’s result placing him on the fourth row for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win COMP Cams Topless 100 finale, Hudson clawed forward two positions in the 100-lap affair to cap off the weekend with a sixth-place finish.
Hudson continues to reside second in the latest LOLMDS points.

Hagar Posts Podium at Lexington 104 Speedway Before Notching Victory at Riverside International Speedway
Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Aug. 21, 2023) - Derek Hagar is only two wins away from tying the most feature victories he's earned in a season.
Hagar produced his 14 th triumph - in only his 17 th start - of the 2023 season last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway during the second night of a two-race weekend with the USCS Series.
"We started and finished third in our heat race so we didn't make the dash and that put us eighth in points," he said. "We started eighth in the feature. The track was a little different than it had been all year. It had a middle, bottom and a cushion. You could go all over the track and feel grip. We tightened the car up because we knew it'd slick off. I was really tight the first couple of laps. Once the fuel load started burning off the car came alive and I could charge the corner hard and stick it against the middle. Everyone else had to baby it to get in where I could run hard into the center.
"I got to second with about four or five laps to go. At that time the leader was a half track ahead. With two laps to go he broke a motor and I inherited the lead. We had a green-white-checkered restart and were able to hold on to win."
It marked Hagar's fifth win of the season at the track and his eighth with the USCS Series.
The weekend started on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., where Hagar advanced from second to win a heat race. He finished fourth in the dash to garner the fourth starting position in the A Main.
"It's not a passing-friendly track," he said. "You get what you can on the start and hold on. We got to third on the initial start and that's where we rode the whole race. We didn't battle for second. We just followed each other and tried to keep our nose clean. A good podium finish was nice."
The third-place outing gives Hagar a podium finish in all but one race this season.
Hagar will return to the Paul Hart owned No. 44 sprint car this Friday and Saturday at Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Ky., with the POWRi 410 Bandit Outlaw Sprint Series. They produced a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions victory the last time the two teamed up.
"I think we'll be decent," Hagar said. "He's been updating some stuff on the car and putting some new parts on it for Paducah, which is a pretty big race track. Hopefully we can battle up front all weekend. It's a small team so it's special to go out and run good in it and contend for wins."

From the pole position the Tennessee veteran led every circuit for his fourth win of 2023.
“Lapped traffic was really kind of a battle there early,” Owens said in Victory Lane on Saturday night. “I think I run [Zack Mitchell] off the back straightaway. Those (slower) guys were battling, and I just cut to the outside real quick and [Mitchell] was there … he just snuck up on me and I was like, ‘Oh!’ Thankfully it all worked out and we got this Koehler Motorsports team another win. A big thank you to them and everyone who supports us.
Returning to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) for Friday's rain-postponed Southern Nationals Series event, Jimmy Owens unloaded the Koehler Motorsports No. 20 machine for a two-day weekend at the track.

After a solid outing on Friday, Jimmy Owens stayed overnight at the track to compete with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series for a $10,000 prize on Saturday afternoon.

Controlling the race from the drop of the green flag, Owens combatted a late charge from Zack Mitchell to secure his second $10,000 payday with the series. He topped Mitchell while Joseph Joiner, Carson Ferguson, and Austin Horton rounded out the Top-5.
