Ricky Weiss Conquers Challenge Cup XVIII
Sights Set on Dirt Late Model Dream XXIV

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (06/04/18) – Ricky Weiss checked a first off his bucket list on Saturday night by piloting his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model to the $10,000 victory in the Challenge Cup XVIII.

The coveted win marked his seventh triumph of the 2018 season.

“I’ve been wanting a Challenge Cup win for a while now, and man it feels good to finally get one,” an elated Weiss said. “We were really fast on Thursday night, but the pill draw got us. Saturday night went pretty flawless for us, and we were able to sweep the show to get the win. I feel like I let one slip away on Sunday night at Casino Speedway. We we’re leading, and I hit a hole, which sent me into an infield tire, knocking the nose off. It was a bad deal, but still a great weekend for our team.”

On Thursday night Ricky Weiss returned to action with the WISSOTA Challenge Series as he took part in the the Iverson Late Model Challenge at Dakota State Fair Speedway (Huron, South Dakota).

Passing three cars in his heat race, Weiss landed a fourth-place finish, positioning him 13th on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Wheeling his way into a podium spot, Ricky improved 11 positions to finish second behind Don Shaw with Kent Arment, A.J. Diemel, and Jake Redetzke completing the Top-5 finishers.

After taking Friday night off, Weiss was one of 44 Super Late Models on hand at Dakota State Fair Speedway (Huron, South Dakota) on Saturday evening for the WISSOTA Challenge Series sanctioned Challenge Cup XVIII.
Following a 10-lap heat race win in his first heat, Ricky passed 10 cars in his second heat to pick up the victory. Earning the pole position, Ricky Weiss topped the 25-car field to pick up his seventh win of the season and a $10,000 payday.

Don Shaw, Pat Doar, Marshall Fegers, and Kent Arment completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.

On Sunday evening Ricky stopped at Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota) for the WISSOTA Challenge Series sanctioned Marilyn Olson Memorial. In a field of 31 entries, Ricky started the night with a heat race win, positioning him on the pole for the feature. After jumping out to a comfortable lead, Weiss made contact with an infield tire barrier on lap 35, which dropped him back to a 15th-place outing.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Adds Fifth Win To the Season With Tri-State Speedway Victory

Bryan Hulbert - POCOLA, Okla. (June 4, 2018) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has not finished outside the top-five in his last seven outings, has six podium finishes to go with it, and added his fifth win of the 2018 season this past Saturday night racing against the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products.

Taking in two nights of racing this past weekend in order to shake down his new backup car and engine combination, Sam started the weekend at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla. with a runner-up finish to Seth Bergman.

"We tried a lot of different things on Friday. We started out in Hot Laps and didn't feel very good and made some changes. We just felt like we were chasing the car, so we changed bars for the Heat and got a little bit better, but we just still were not where we needed to be, so we changed bars again and we ran okay in the Feature," explained Hafertepe.

Chasing Seth through traffic in the race's mid-point, the top of the track was the fastest way around and didn't allow much room for error. Even with a late-race restart, Sam was unable to mount a charge.

"At one point I felt like we were really making some gains, but I just never was comfortable in the car. The way that place races, it's really round so we never got any kind of wing speed going and we seem to struggle at places like that, so it was actually good that we made the gains we did."

From the quarter-mile in Meeker to the sweeping three-eighths mile Tri-State Speedway in Pocola the following night, Sam was right at home with each race entered topped by the Sunnyvale, Texas racer.

"We were at a point this past weekend where we were testing, and with, I never wanted to go on the track running the same thing twice. The top was the place to be in the Heat Races, but we intentionally stayed off it and ran through the middle and bottom to work on the car and get it working for the feature, and it worked. Even as good as the car was, we went back to the drawing board and changed it again for the main and made a lot of gains."

Up next for Sam and the Hills Racing Team No. 15h is the Lucas Oil ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek which kicks off this weekend at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock and Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo.

"I was ready for Speedweek two weeks ago," state Sam with a chuckle. "Testing out our backup car this past weekend, it doesn't matter that the cars are all made by the same manufacturer, they all have their own attributes, so I wanted to get a feel for that car before it goes up top. We're happy with it and ready to go this weekend. I feel like we're right where we need to be going into Speedweek and then Washington for Dirt Cup."

Johnny Herrera Gearing Up For Lucas Oil ASCS Speedweek

Bryan Hulbert - BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (June 4, 2018) Taking this past weekend to rebuild and rework his Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 45x following a crash the week before in Las Cruces, N.M., Johnny Herrera is down to minor details as he prepares for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek.

"We're almost ready to go. Right now we just have a couple things to finish up and we'll be ready. We had to fix a few things after we got tangled up in southern New Mexico, but we're good. Nothing major," commented Herrera.

On his last outing during Memorial Day Weekend at the Southern New Mexico Speedway, Herrera had an up and down weekend with the New Mexico shoe rebounding to a top-five finish following a crash the opening night of the Salute to Indy.

"We got taken out by another car but got everything rolling the next night and finished fifth, so it ended up begin a good weekend. I always enjoy getting the chance to race close to home where I can spend time with my family and friends like Royal at Mesilla Valley Transportation as well as Mike and Kathy at CSR Garage. Without people like them supporting this team, I wouldn't be able to do this."

Along with Speedweek kicking off this weekend, Herrera is also making sure everything is in place for the Series' swing to the 47th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Resort and Casino, happening June 21, 22, and 23.

"We have a lot of racing coming up so we've been, I don't want to say saving our equipment, but we've been selective so far. I've only had the one engine, so I didn't want to get a lot of laps on it, but we should have our spare back this week. Speedweek can change the whole dynamic of your season, so we're looking to run strong and be ahead going into Dirt Cup."

The 2018 season marks the 34th year of racing for Johnny Herrera which includes over 140 victories in various forms of Sprint Car competition. For more information, and to keep in touch with the man called "Hollywood", log onto to http://www.johnnyherreraracing.com.
