DURRENCE LAYNE WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 17 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

               CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 17 of the 27-week 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season saw drivers begin to move up the point standings in their respective Divisions, as they near or reach the 14-week point of their seasons. Drivers that had already reached the 14-week point for their season worked to net points to improve their season totals.

              The complete Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 17 results for each track are listed below, and the complete point standings for each of the four Divisions have been posted at www.durrencelayneracing.com. That takes you to the Launch Page where you can click on the Divisions you’re looking for.

            Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS gained one point in Week 17 competition as the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point leader. Scarbrough netted on a 48 with a 49-point second-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS. Scarbrough now has a best 14-week total of 694 points out of a possible 700.
           
            Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS remains in the second spot in the Late Model standings with best 14-week total of 672 points after he failed to net on a 44 in Week 17 competition. Lee is now tied for the second spot in the standings at 472 points with the 2012 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Chase Washington of Houlka, MS.
           
            Washington was able to net off a 35 with a 48-point third-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway. Lee has the tiebreaker advantage with two wins to one win for Washington. Just one point behind Lee and Washington is Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS in the fourth-place in the standings with a best 14-week total of 671 points.
           
            Russell took his fifth Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to gain nine points after netting on a 41. Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS moved into the Top 5 of the standings using his last week to earn full points. Arnold had a 45-point sixth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to bring his 14 week total to 660 points.
           
            Scarbrough has the highest Weekly Point Average (WPA) among the Top 20 in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point standings at 49.57 out of a possible 50. Three drivers are tied for the second spot on the WPA list as Lee, Washington, and the defending Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE at 48.
           
            Leonard did not compete in Week 17 action, and is 18th in the standings with 528 points. Leonard still has three more weeks to earn full points before he reaches the 14-week mark of his season. As Leonard gets closer to the 14-week mark, he will rise dramatically in the point standings. Russell is fifth on the WPA list at 47.99.
           
            Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS took his 17th Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and is just two points away from a perfect seasonal total of 700 points. Idom gained nine points to bring his best 14-week total to 698 points. Idom also tops the Street Stock WPA List at 49.86.
           
            Lee Ray of Columbus, MS used a 49-point second-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to bring his best 14-week total to 686 points after netting off a 40. Ray is second in the Street Stock point standings and is also second on the WPA list at 49. 
           
            Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL is third in the Street Stock standings with a best 14-week total of 664 points after netting on a 41 after a 46-point fifth-place finish on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN. Fortner is fourth on the WPA list at 47.43. 
           
            Chad Winkles of Hartselle, AL is fourth in the Street Stock standings with a best 14-week total of 663 points after netting on a 40. Winkles finished third on Saturday night at Winchester Raceway Park in Winchester, TN to gain eight points on his season total. Winkles is fifth on the WPA List at 47.36.
           
            David Williamson of Seminary, MS used his final week to earn full points to climb from seventh to fifth in the Street Stock point standings. Williamson finished second on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to earn 49 points and bring his 14-week total to 656 points. Williamson is sixth on the WPA list at 46.86.
           
            Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division point leader Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL was able to net three points off a 46 after a 49-point second-place finish on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Mitchell has a best 14-week total of 679 points and he also is on top of the WPA list at 48.5.
           
            Two drivers used their last week to earn full points to jump from fourth and fifth in the Late Model Sportsman point standings to second and third respectively. Blake Ray of Russellville, AL finished third on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway to bring his 14-week total to 670 points.
           
            Hayden Duncan of Leighton, AL rang up his 12th win of the 2018 season on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway to bring his 14-week total up to 661 points. Ray and Duncan are also second and third respectively on the WPA list among the Top 20 drivers in the Late Model Sportsman Division point standings. Ray is at 47.86 and Duncan is at 47.21.
           
            Brandon Crosby of Anniston, AL is fourth in the Late Model Sportsman standings with a best 14-week total of 641 points. Crosby netted on a 40 with a 48-point third-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Crosby is eighth on the WPA list at 45.78.
           
            Cole Brown of Cullman, AL used a 49-point second-place finish on Saturday night at ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL in his final week to earn full points to bring his 14-week total to 638 points and the fifth spot in the Late Model Sportsman standings. Brown is ninth on the WPA list at 45.57.
           
            Andy Davis of Odenville, AL continues to lead the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with 565 points after reaching the 14-week mark of his season with his fifth win of 2018 on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Davis is second on the WPA List among the drivers in the point standings with 11 or weeks in competition at 40.36.
           
            Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is second in the Modified Sportsman standings with 527 points after 13 weeks of racing, and he leads the WPA list at 40.54. Angle finished second on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track. 
           
            Chris Yarbrough of Eastaboga, AL is third in the Modified Sportsman standings with 521 points after 13 weeks of racing and he is third on the WPA list at 40.08. Yarbrough finished third on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.
           
            Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN is fourth in the Modified Sportsman standings with 480 points and two more weeks to earn full points. Gillespie took a 40-point win on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway and he is fourth on the WPA list at 40. Ron Bailey of Meridianville, AL is fifth in the standings with an 11-week total of 435 points. Bailey did not compete in Week 17 action and he is fifth on the WPA list at 39.54.
