Hudson O’Neal and Rocket1 Racing Top LOLMDS at Atomic; Extends Point Lead
Four-Race Illinois Speedweek Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (05/08/23) – Hudson O’Neal raced to his third Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) victory of the season on Thursday night with a $12,000 triumph in the Buckeye Spring 50 aboard his Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The win was his fifth overall triumph of the season, and he had to outduel Jonathan Davenport to get the job done.

“What a race man, that cushion was really treacherous and I made a bunch of mistakes on it, but it was just so big and built up on the wall, it was real forgiving. You could make a little mistake and it not hurt you,” said O'Neal, who has 20 career Lucas Oil victories. “To be able to come back after a long break, you know we’ve had speed and that break was killing us, sitting around and we were ready to get going.”

Returning to the track after Mother Nature axed the scheduled LOLMDS events in both March and April, Rocket1 Racing and Hudson O’Neal invaded Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) on Thursday evening for the ninth running of the Buckeye Spring 50.

Drawing 42 competitors for the opener of the three-race swing, O’Neal topped his 21-car group in time trials before placing first in his heat race. With preliminary results placing him on the pole for the feature, Hudson surrendered the lead on the second circuit but stayed within striking distance as fellow-front starter Jonathan Davenport defended the top spot through lapped-traffic.

Regaining the lead from Davenport on lap 27, O’Neal fended off Brandon Overton’s late charge to secure his fifth win of the season and 20th-career LOLMDS triumph. He collected a $12,000 prize ahead of Overton, Mike Marlar, Kyle Larson, and Jonathan Davenport.

The following night at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.) for the John Bradshaw Memorial, Hudson outran Max Blair in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Chasing race-long pacesetter Mike Marlar across the line in the 50-lap feature, O’Neal recorded a second-place finish with Brandon Overton coming in third.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) with O’Neal racing his way into the $15,000-to-win Ralph Latham Memorial via a second-place finish in his heat. Starting the feature in sixth, Hudson stole the lead on lap 13 but was unable to hold off Ricky Thornton Jr. as he capped off the weekend with another second-place finish.

On the heels of a win and two runner-up finishes, O’Neal now holds a 40-point advantage atop the LOLMDS point standings.

The team now prepares for a Land of Lincoln invasion for the second annual Illinois Speedweek. Action opens with a pair of $23,023-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America events on Wednesday and Thursday at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) and Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway.

On Friday and Saturday the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction a $25,000-to-win program at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway and a $30,000-to-win event at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway.

Ricky Thornton Jr. Snares First-Career Ralph Latham Memorial Triumph
Ready for Illinois Speedweek with CFNiA and LOLMDS

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (05/08/23) – Ricky Thornton Jr. continued his winning ways on Saturday night with a $15,000 victory in the 37th running of the Ralph Latham Memorial.

His winning performance was achieved at Kentucky’s Florence Speedway behind the wheel of his SSI Motorsports / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“Man this team is just so great, and I’m the lucky guy who gets to drive the car. I told my guys my goal was to come out and win tonight. The car took off after that one restart. I was able to get by Hud [O’Neal] and Brandon [Overton]. I thought it was going to be around the bottom longer than it was. It’s easy to knock the right rear off the car here,” Ricky shared in Victory Lane. “You can look at my quarter panel and see that. But at the end I just wanted to keep it off the wall and hit my marks because I knew those other guys were not going to give up. Overall, I am excited to get this win.”

Ricky Thornton Jr. returned the driver’s seat of the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Super Late Model on Thursday evening at Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) snapped their streak of rainouts with the ninth running of the Buckeye Spring 50.

Drawing 42 cars, Ricky recorded the fifth-fastest lap in his group before placing second in his heat race. With $12,000 on the line in the opening night feature, Thornton rebounded to finish 11th in the 50-lapper after getting spun on lap 11.

For Friday’s John Bradshaw Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.), Thornton’s runner-up finish in his heat placed him on the third row for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Inching forward one spot in the 50-lap affair, Ricky chased Mike Marlar, Hudson O’Neal, Brandon Overton, and Jonathan Davenport to the checkers in finishing fifth.

In a field of 41 LOLMDS entries on Saturday at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) for the 37th annual Ralph Latham Memorial, Ricky followed up the fourth-fastest time in his qualifying group with a second-place run in his heat.

Advancing from the fourth row in the feature, Thornton whizzed past Hudson O’Neal for the lead on lap 23 and led the remainder of the 50-lapper to capture his eighth win of the season and a $15,000 paycheck.

He finished 2.554 seconds ahead of O’Neal with Brandon Overton, Garrett Alberson, and Tim McCreadie completing the top-five finishers.

Ricky is currently second in the latest LOLMDS point standings.

Mike Marlar Pockets Ponderosa LOLMDS John Bradshaw Memorial Cash
Carries CFNiA Point Lead into Illinois Speedweek

WINFIELD, Tenn. (05/08/23) – Mike Marlar hit the ground running in early May with a victory aboard his Delk Equipment Sales / Petroff Towing No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Longhorn Race Car / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

His third triumph of the year came on Friday in the John Bradshaw Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.) and was worth $12,000.

“I want to thank my car owner and all of these great sponsors,” said the victorious Marlar in Lucas Oil Victory Lane on Friday night. “It takes a lot of people to have a great race team. It’s fun when it’s working good. The car was really good again tonight. We had that one caution and sometimes your tires cool off, or the track bleeds and other things happen under caution. It’s usually a good thing especially when you have a clean track in front of you. You run these cars on such a fine line.

“It’s cool the John Bradshaw Memorial has got to be as big as it is,” Marlar added. “When it first started it was $5,000 to win and we were just lucky to have a race that paid that around here. So, all of these big races we are having around here now it’s’ getting big crowds like tonight. I don’t think I have seen this many fans here.”

Mike Marlar was one of 43 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries packed into the pit area at Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) on Thursday evening for the ninth running of the Buckeye Spring 50.

Following the sixth-fastest qualifying lap, Marlar passed one car in his heat race to finish second. Earning the eighth-starting spot for the $12,000-to-win A-Main, Mike climbed five positions in the 50-lapper to register a third-place finish. He chased Hudson O’Neal and Brandon Overton to the checkers.

For the John Bradshaw Memorial on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.), Mike’s third-to-first run in his heat placed him on the pole for the feature. Leading flag-to-flag in the 50-lap affair, Marlar rolled to his third win of the season and 18th-career LOLMDS triumph.

He bagged a $12,000 payday ahead of Hudson O’Neal, Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport, and Ricky Thornton Jr.

To wrap up the weekend on Saturday at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.), Marlar secured his spot into the Ralph Latham Memorial A-Main with a third-place showing in his heat. With $15,000 on the line, Mike raced to an 11th-place finish in the 50-lap finale.

With his Friday night victory and a seventh-place finish in Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals competition on Saturday night at Rome Speedway, Ferguson increased his advantage atop the standings as he pursues his second-straight series title.

“I didn’t think (Will Roland) was gonna move down like that and a few laps before that, I about ran into the back of him. I threw a hail mary up on the top and it stuck for me,” Ferguson said in Victory Lane at Tri-County Race Track on Friday night in regards to outdueling multi-time leader Will Roland during the course of the race. “It’s awesome, we had a good showing here last time and my mentor told me I had a lot to learn. I took that to heart and did some studying and we came back and was better.

“We had a solid Top-10 run at Rome (Speedway) on Saturday and then we slid over to Swainsboro (Raceway) on Sunday where I finished seventh in the 604 division and got the win in the 602 Late Model class. All-in-all it was a fun weekend of racing.”

Rolling off from the outside pole in the $10,053-to-win feature, Carson challenged Dale McDowell and Sam Seawright for the lead before a flat tire forced him pit-side. Carson rallied to finish 10th.

ROBELINE, La. (05/08/23) – Cade Dillard triumphantly debuted his brand-new S&S Fishing & Rental Inc. / Johnsville Company No. 97 Krohn Farms / Longhorn Race Car / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model on Thursday night.

The Louisiana racer streaked to the $5,000 World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.

“It was a great way to break the new car out. We couldn’t have asked for much more than to win right out of the box. I hate the contact with Brent (Larson) happened, while we were battling for the lead. He knew he was in a bind and started using the whole track,” Dillard said. “We entered (Turn 1) and got a run on the top. I felt like I was far enough when I saw he wasn’t leaving any room. I checked up to leave him room. I mean, you can watch the video. I got on the brakes, and he just kept coming.

“It was unfortunate that rained canceled the rest of the Wisconsin weekend because I was excited to see what we had for the final two nights. We stopped at Batesville (Motor Speedway) on the way home Friday night and came away with a seventh-place finish there. We learned a lot, and now we’ll enjoy a weekend off before returning to action with the Outlaws.”

Making his debut behind the wheel of a Longhorn Chassis, Cade Dillard trekked to Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wis.) on Thursday to compete with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series for the Dairyland Showdown.

Overtaking early pacesetter Brent Larson on lap 15, Dillard raced to his second victory of the 2023 season and first in the Late Model ranks.

He pocketed a $5,000 payday ahead of Bobby Pierce, Nick Hoffman, Dennis Erb Jr., and Chris Madden.

After persistent weather forced World of Outlaws officials to cancel the remainder of the weekend, Dillard trekked to Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Saturday to compete in the final round of the Bad Boy 98.

Amongst a field of 31 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) entries, Cade topped his time trial group in qualifying before placing second in his heat. With $12,000 on the line in the feature, Dillard dropped one spot in the 68-lapper to finish seventh.

Drake Troutman Doubles Down in Bedford Speedway Victory Lane
Four-Race Swing in Illinois and Indiana on Deck

HYNDMAN, Pa. (05/08/23) – While Drake Troutman’s weekend started on a sour note with lift gate issues on his hauler that kept him from racing his Super Late Model on Thursday at Atomic Speedway, he bounced back with a pair of Modified wins on Friday at Beford Speedway, including a triumph aboard his Jerry Foster Racing / CertainTeed No. 5 ABC Supply Co. / All About Doors / Longhorn Chassis Modified.

On the same night he added a triumph in the 602 SportMod feature aboard the Kevin VanHorn Motorsports No. 83.

“It goes without saying that we were bummed at Atomic (Speedway) on Thursday, when we couldn’t get the lift gate on the hauler to work, so we couldn’t race with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. However, we regrouped for the rest of the weekend and got a couple of wins at Bedford (Speedway) and a second-place finish at Tyler County Speedway.

“We’re excited to head out to Illinois this week for three of the Illinois Speedweek Super Late Model event and the Roddy Strong Memorial with the Modified at Bloomington (Speedway).”

Drake Troutman had plans to compete with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Thursday afternoon at Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) for the ninth running of the Buckeye Spring 50 but after arriving to the facility the team was unable to get the lift-gate opened due to a malfunctioning part.

On Friday, the team trekked to Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pa.) with Drake pulling triple duty of the Billy Winn Classic. Aboard his RFI Resources No. 7 Super Late Model, Troutman secured his spot into the $8,700-to-win A-Main with an eight-lap heat race win. Starting in sixth, Drake was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on lap 34.

Along with his win in the Jerry Foster-owned No. 5 Modified on Friday, Drake parked the No. 83 602 Sports Mod fielded by Kevin Vanhorn in victory lane to elevate his 2023-win tally to 11.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with Troutman competing in the Modified ranks at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W.Va.) for the 29th annual Topless 50. With preliminary results placing him on the third row for the feature, Drake advanced four positions to finish second, chasing Shawn Jett to the checkers.

Full results from the weekend are available at www.LucasDirt.com and www.TylerCountySpeedwayOnline.com .

Troutman is now set for a busy week on the road. On Wednesday and Thursday he’ll compete with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Super Late Models at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) and Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway.

On Friday evening, he’ll take his Modified into battle at Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway in the $9,999-to-win Roddy Strong Memorial, before returning to Illinois on Saturday to compete with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in the $30,000-to-win FALS Spring Shootout at Fairbury Speedway.

Details on the weekend’s slate can be found at www.FloSeries.com , www.RaceBloomingtonSpeedway.com and www.LucasDirt.com

Donny Schatz performs big at The Big E; Central Pennsylvania ahead

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 6th | 2206 points

Dates: Friday and Saturday, May 5th-6th
Event: #LetsRaceTwo
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 3rd (4th)
Saturday: 2nd (11th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 8, 2023) - Despite missing the top-ten on two attempts just one weekend prior, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing came to play on Friday and Saturday at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track in Rossburg, Ohio, ultimately capping Eldora Speedway’s annual Let’s Race Two with back-to-back podium scores, all of which headlined with a runner-up performance on Saturday, May 6. Schatz, who now owns six top-five outcomes in his first 17 World of Outlaws starts, simultaneously propelled himself to sixth in the Series standings; he was ninth when Eldora’s action commenced.

Head turning at the least, Schatz, ace of the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, started 11th in his runner-up pursuit on Saturday night, battling his way to third in just 11 circuits. Although short lived, the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion did lead a single circuit, working by leader and eventual winner, Rico Abreu, on lap 18. Abreu would go on to reclaim command the following circuit.

Donny Schatz opened Eldora’s doubleheader with a third-place finish on Friday, sneaking ahead one position after starting fourth on the grid. The top-three were under a blanket at the finish with Schatz finishing just behind Rico Abreu and winner, Logan Schuchart.

A heat race victory would slingshot Schatz to Friday’s dash; he finished fourth.

“This was a decent weekend – third and second,” Schatz said. “Hopefully we can get a win here soon. Things were feeling pretty decent here this weekend. We’ve always had pretty decent finishes here at Eldora.

You’ve got to get going and get momentum. On my end, I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve been kicked in the head a lot. I’ve been kicked in the guts a lot. I’m used to it. That’s what drivers do. That’s what gets you to win championships. These guys work hard. My guys needed this – to get a good finish and get that momentum back going and the confidence back and everything.”

Bayston concludes competitive Eldora weekend with top-ten; All roads lead to Pennsylvania

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 2176 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (May 8, 2023) - The Big E, formally known as Eldora Speedway, is a facility everyone wants to conquer, that including Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, and although the Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based World of Outlaws team was unable to find the top spot of the podium in this weekend’s Let’s Race Two doubleheader, the lap time acquired proved to be just as valuable, already aiming big in what they hope to be a million dollar return to Rossburg, Ohio, later this year.

Bayston, ace of the ever-familiar TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, No. 5 sprint car, finished 13th and seventh in his recent Eldora visits, highlighting the pair with a five spot jump from 12th in Saturday’s Let’s Race Two weekend finale. Simultaneously, a consistent effort allowed the Lebanon, Indiana, native to climb to eighth in the Series standings, padded by nine top-ten performances in 17 World of Outlaws A-main appearances.

“Overall, a weekend to be happy with, but there’s always room for improvement,” Spencer Bayston explained. “Eldora is a place that hasn’t been too kind to me throughout my career. Despite that, I feel like we made substantial gains with the car and my confidence. We raced well on Friday, but I think we had a great car all night on Saturday. A couple of hiccups kept us out of the top-five, but Eldora is a place that can magnify mistakes. As we continue to get laps there, I’m confident I'll be able to clean up some of those mistakes and really elevate our performances.”

Brown rallies big in Eldora’s Let’s Race Two finale; Knoxville to highlight upcoming agenda

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (May 8, 2023) - In all, it was a stout weekend at The Big E for “Blackjack” Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing, not only padding the stat book with their third top-five score of the season, but doing so in grand fashion, and against the Greatest Show On Dirt. Brown, who is still chasing his first victory of the year, finished fourth in his Eldora Speedway top-five, battling ahead nine positions after starting 13th on the Let’s Race Two finale grid.

Impressive enough, Brown made his progress at a head-turning pace, powering forward to pressure for fourth prior to the midpoint of the 30-lap contest. After a multi-lap tussle, the Higginsville, Missouri, native, who now resides in Grain Valley, secured fourth on lap 17, working by reigning World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year and Indiana native, Spencer Bayston.

Although unable to secure a top-five on Friday, May 5, “Blackjack” opened his weekend at the world-famous half-mile with improvement and speed, qualifying for main event action before jumping ahead three positions from the inside of row ten.

“Overall, a solid weekend for our team. We kinda put ourselves in a hole on Friday, but we battled back with a great result on Saturday,” Brian Brown, driver of his own Casey’s, FVP, Andy's Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, HAWK Hunting, Ditzfeld Transfer, No. 21 sprint car, said. “We had a phenomenal car in Saturday’s A-Main. I was able to go wherever I needed to go and that allowed us to make a ton of progress. Most importantly, this allowed us to build our notebook for the Million and Kings Royal this July.

“We’ll turn our attention back to Knoxville…I’m excited to get back there,” Brown added. “We’re not sure about Friday. We’ll watch the weather and see how things unfold.”

Chase Randall helps TKS Motorsports power to a top-five at Knoxville Raceway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (May 8, 2023) - Despite their primary driver, Ian Madsen, still on the sidelines due to concussion recovery protocol, Mitchellville, Iowa’s TKS Motorsports did their best to power on and persevere, and persevere is what they did, eventually capping Knoxville Raceway’s season opening program with a top-five score, accomplished by temporary driver and Waco, Texas, native, Chase Randall.

Randall, powering Troy Renfro’s Albaugh - Your Alternative, Iowa Barnstormers, Des Moines Industrial Products, deWit Construction, No. 2KS, finished fourth in the Sprint Car Capital of the World’s official lid lifter, racing ahead two positions after starting sixth on the feature grid. In all, a great evening for the Texan, kicking things off with the eighth-fastest qualifying time, padding that with a third-place finish during his respective heat race.

The top-five outcome was TKS Motorsports’ first of the season, snapping a stretch of bad luck that included several “nowhere to go” incidents with Madsen at the helm.

“This is a great momentum kick for our team and we are all very pleased,” Troy Renfro explained. “A big thanks to Chase Randall for stepping in while Ian continues to recover. He gave us the opportunity to fine tune our program and we’re hoping to continue this momentum when we return to Knoxville this weekend.”

ON DECK:
TKS Motorsports and Ian Madsen will continue their 2023 campaign with another visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, May 13.
