Prelim Victory at Eldora Gives Overton Eighth Win of 2020
Lucas Oil at Cherokee and Smoky Mountain Next
EVANS, Ga. (06/10/20) – Brandon Overton was one of 48 drivers invited to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio over the weekend. Brandon capitalized on the opportunity, notching his eighth triumph of the season on Friday night.
Overton drove his Wells Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton/ Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Clements Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model to a $10,000 preliminary victory during the second round of the Dirt Late Model Stream Invitational.
“It’s awesome. I can’t thank David and Eric [Wells] enough for giving me the opportunity to drive this thing,” said Overton on Eldora’s coveted victory stage. “We’ve had a really fast car for the past month and just bad luck just keeps getting us. We’re just gonna keep pushing through it. This was a different car. Longhorn by Wells, man this thing is awesome. Thanks, Eric, for everything you do back at the shop, his whole family, all my other sponsors.”
On Thursday afternoon, following the second fastest lap overall in time trials behind Chris Ferguson, Overton bagged a 10-lap heat race victory. Earning the fifth-starting position for the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Brandon was up to third by lap 14 before mechanical issues struck late in the 30-lapper, forcing him pit-side on lap 28. He was credited with a 23rd place outing.
The following night, Brandon came in ninth fastest overall in time trials but failed post-qualifying droop test, dropping him two spots in his heat and eliminating his time trial points. Wheeling his way up to second behind Josh Richards, Overton locked into the third-starting position for the A-Main.
With pole-sitter Dale McDowell setting the pace early, Brandon entered the mix near the half-way point of the 30-lapper after McDowell and Jimmy Owens wrestled for the top spot. Overtaking race-leader Jimmy Owens following a restart on lap-20, Brandon soared to the win over Owens, McDowell, Devin Moran, and Richards by a 1.774 second margin.
Sitting fourth overall in preliminary points on Saturday, Overton rolled off on the pole of his heat race. After nearly flipping over on the second lap, Brandon scored a second-place finish behind Chris Madden, which positioned him eighth on the starting grid for the $50,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Stream Invitational. Unable to gain any momentum in the 67-lap affair, Overton was an early retiree on lap 27. He was recorded 21st in the final rundown.

This upcoming weekend, Brandon Overton returns to the ultra-competitive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour. Rodney Sanders Claims 100th USMTS Career Victory
Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway this Weekend
HAPPY, Tex. (06/10/20) – Rodney Sanders reached another milestone over the weekend in his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.
The 30-year-old three-time United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National Champion lead wire-to-wire on Saturday in the 7th Annual USMTS Juggernaut presented by Drive4JRT.com at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla. With the triumph, Sanders officially registered his 100th career USMTS victory.
“It seemed like we were never going to get this one,” Sanders said as he and his crew celebrated win No. 100. “We've had good opportunities the last few nights with good draws and, man, I just totally screwed the car up.”
“This is something that's kind of hard to put into perspective. There's only a few guys that's done that so that's pretty cool and now we're just gonna keep going.”
To kickstart the weekend, Sanders traveled to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the USMTS-sanctioned Wednesday Night Madness. Drawing 43 cars for the four-race weekend opener, Sanders jumped up six spots in his heat race to register a third-place finish. Earning the eighth-starting position for the opening night feature, Rodney improved one spot in the 40-lapper to place seventh.
The following night at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kans.) for the ninth annual Park City Sunflower State Showdown, Rodney locked his spot into the $2,500-to-win A-Main with an 8-lap heat race victory. Falling three spots in the 40-lap affair, Sanders posted a fifth place finish behind Ryan Gustin, Tanner Mullens, Zack VanderBeek, and Jake O’Neil.
For the 7th Annual Hummer Hustle at Humboldt (Kans.) Speedway on Friday evening, Sanders followed up a third place finish in his heat with a 12-lap consolation victory. With $3,000 on the line in the feature, Rodney advanced through the field seven spots to record a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Okla.), Rodney jumped up three spots in his 8-lap heat to score a runner-up finish behind Hunter Marriott. Taking command of the lead early, Sanders led flag-to-flag in the feature to capture his ninth overall win of the season. He took the checkered flag ahead of Terry Phillips, Tanner Mullens, Jake O’Neil, and Zack VanderBeek.
In addition to getting the 100-win monkey off his back, the $3,000 winner’s share of the prize money was a welcome addition to his earnings.
“This has been probably one of the roughest years I've ever had but luckily I have good people that keep sticking behind me. It's not an open checkbook by no means. Everybody pitches in where they can and I'm very appreciative of what everyone does.”
This weekend – June11-13 – the stars of the USMTS will converge at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the 21st Annual Masters. The mega-event kicks off with a $3,000-to-win show on Thursday, followed by a $5,000 top prize on Friday. It all leads up to Saturday’s finale which offers $10,000 to the winner.
Rodney Sanders holds an eight-point lead over Dereck Ramirez atop the latest USMTS National Championship standings. For results from these events, complete standings, and more on upcoming events, please visit www.USMTS.com .

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (06/10/20) – Jensen Ford took his Whitehead Construction Inc. No. 83 Stanco Equipment/ Shoun Trucking/ TNT Race Cars Late Model into battle on Friday evening at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.), and came away with his first win of the 2020 campaign.
“We’ve been fast, not real good luck,” Ford commented. “We finally had a little luck on Friday night.”
With the 16 Late Models registered in for action at “The Gap,” Ford laid down the fastest time overall in qualifying with a 13.276 second lap. Rolling off the on pole of the feature, Jensen led wire-to-wire to capture his first win of the season and a $1,000 payday. “When you’re out front, you can control the pace and where you want to run,” Ford said. “It was a lot harder for the cars behind me, especially where the holes were. There were definite lines you had to run and if you missed them, you got into some bad holes. It was a very physical race tonight.”
Saturday night found Jensen at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the ninth annual J.T. Kerr Memorial, which honored the late found of Stinger Chassis. Like the previous night, Jensen again topped the speed charts in qualifying. Cruising to an 8-lap heat race victory, Ford locked into the pole position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main.
With Randy Weaver setting the pace early, Jensen followed behind closely in his TNT Race Cars entry. Hagar Racing Midget at Crowley's Ridge and Riverside This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (June 10, 2020) - Derek Hagar is wearing two hats this weekend.
Not only will he be racing during both nights of midget competition in his home state of Arkansas, Hagar has been hustling to promote the races on Friday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould and on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis.
"I think we're sitting around 15-to-20 cars on Friday," he said. "I think it will be a big night. We're part of promoting it. It was going to be a one-day deal. I got some guys from Mississippi to bring their D2 midgets so Riverside added them to the program on Saturday so there's more racing."
Hagar said there will be bonuses for drivers racing D2 midgets during both nights of action. He is part of a three-car Hagar Proctor Racing team that will tackle both races. Cody Hays and Chase Howard are also team drivers this weekend.
"I've tested a midget around Riverside, but as far as racing I haven't done it at either track," Hagar said. "I'm pretty excited for this weekend and to race something different in the midget than just Chili Bowl and Du Quoin."
Hagar last drove his midget in March, but a mechanical problem during hot laps kept him from competing. His most recent official race was the Chili Bowl Nationals in January. Hagar produced a career-best outing during the marquee midget event.

Giovanni Scelzi Wrangles Top 10 at Lawton as Debut With Forbrook has Arrived
Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (June 10, 2020) - Giovanni Scelzi captured his first top 10 of the season with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 on Monday at Lawton Speedway.
Scelzi qualified 14th quickest before he advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and from 13th to eighth in the main event during Round 3 of the Cometic Gasket Thunder Through the Plains presented by Hercules Tires.
"We gained on it and figured something out at Lawton that made us better," he said. "We tried some different stuff and we went back to something we hit on in Florida. Trying to get rear grip is the biggest thing. I was really good in the beginning of the race. Then the track took rubber so passing was at a premium."
Scelzi, who was driving for his family team, also began the Thunder Through the Plains with a strong rally at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla., last Friday. He qualified fifth quickest out of the 25-plus competitors. Unfortunately, a crash in a heat race relegated him to the B Main. Scelzi won the race to transfer into the main event. He capped the night by maneuvering from 19th to 13th.
"Track position was so key," he said. "It was tough to give up those spots in the main event through the heat race crash. The top and bottom were so even. I think we could have had a top 10 if we made the dash. It was the best track we've been to this season. You could putt around the bottom or hustle around the top."
Scelzi also competed at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., on Sunday. He qualified 13th quickest, ended sixth in a heat race and finished 17th in the main event on a track that took rubber early.
Now the focus shifts to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where Scelzi will make his debut with Guy Forbrook this Friday and Saturday during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series' Brownells Big Guns Bash.
"What better place to start than a World of Outlaws race," he quipped. "Guy's car was fast last year when he ran at Knoxville. I know how good the equipment is and how good our track record is at Knoxville. I think being in the top 10 is a solid goal for this weekend."

Wilson Highlights First Half of All Star Visit to Midwest With Top 10 at Red Dirt Raceway
Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (June 10, 2020) - Greg Wilson hustled to his best Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 result of the season last Friday during the opening round of the Cometic Gasket Thunder Through the Plains presented by Hercules Tires.
Wilson overcame a frustrating qualifying result at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla., by guiding his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team from eighth to fourth place in a heat race before rallying from 14th to eighth place in the main event.
"Red Dirt Raceway is awesome," he said. "I hope we go back there. In the feature we were too good too early. We ran right up to about where we ended up finishing right away. As the race wore on we weren't as good. We should have probably changed our car a little bit, but we've made so many changes and some of the stuff we're doing is working. After the heat race we tightened our car up. We didn't do what I characteristically do because every time I do that stuff sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. We tried to make subtle changes and tried to learn. In hindsight I wish we'd have done a couple more things and I think we could have gained even more positions."
The action shifted to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., on Sunday. Wilson improved his qualifying result, but was unable to lock into the main event through the heat race. However, he won the B Main to garner a transfer into the feature. Wilson then gained a handful of positions to charge from 19 th to 14th before the track was caked in rubber.
"I got most of my spots before it took rubber," he said. "It rubbered up pretty quick. The new owners at the track have done a wonderful job with improvements there. It's hard to fault a track that is making that many improvements. Their water truck broke at 8 a.m. in the morning and they struggled to get a water truck by the time we went racing. We need to take the positives out of it. That's a facility that will be nice down the road and the track owners are working hard."
Wilson took another step forward on Monday at Lawton Speedway, where he qualified 12th quickest, placed second in a heat race and battled for a top 10 throughout the main event before ending 11 th.
"We were better early in the night at Lawton," he said. "We keep changing things and are more concerned with qualifying, which is something we need to focus on. We qualified quite a bit better at Lawton and the car felt better. The more we race it seems we improve. In the feature we fell back a little, gained it back and as the race wore on there wasn't passing unless you drove through somebody. I don't race like that so we took what we could get."
The Thunder Through the Plains continues with races this Wednesday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; Thursday at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.; Friday at Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas; Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas; and Sunday at Chatham Speedway in Chatham, La.
QUICK RESULTS -

Last-Lap Pass Gives Troutman Third Win of the Season
Busy Weekend of Late Model and Modified Action Ahead
HYNDMAN, Pa. (06/10/20) – Drake Troutman enjoyed another spectacular weekend of racing action, earning four Top-5 finishes along the way.
The highlight of the weekend came on Saturday when Troutman parked his Smith Transport No. 7 RFI Resources/ MB Customs Modified in Victory Lane at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa. It was Drake’s third overall win of the season and second straight at Roaring Knob.
“What a great weekend for my team,” Troutman commented. “I want to thank my hard-working crew, our great sponsors, and all the fans who support our program. We’re going to continue working hard to find speed.”
Drake Troutman invaded Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday afternoon pulling double duty in his Late Model and Modified.
Jumping up one spot in his heat race in his Late Model, Troutman scored second-place finish behind Jared Miley. Receiving the pole position for the feature via the redraw, Drake took command of the lead early until coming across lapped traffic that slowed his momentum. Unable to sneak by for the win, Troutman crossed the line in third.
Suffering a flat right-rear tire while leading his heat race in his Modified, Drake transferred into the A-Main to start on the tail. Wheeling his way to the front, Troutman made a pass for the lead on the final lap to capture his third win of the season.
On Sunday afternoon at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway, Troutman improved one spot in the Late Model feature to place fifth behind Jeff Rine, Travis Stickley, Jeff Miller, and Tim Wilson.
Rolling off fifth in the Modified feature, Drake took advantage of a late-race tangle to register a runner-up finish behind Mike Altobelli Jr. with Evan Taylor, Mike Altobelli Sr., and Jerry Foster rounding out the Top-5.
Troutman now shifts his focus to another tripleheader weekend. Drake is scheduled to compete in Super Late Model action at Bedford Speedway on Friday, June 12 before traveling to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday. The team will return to Bedford Speedway on Sunday, June 14 to compete with the Mid Atlantic Modifieds.
