Ahnna Parkhurst Races to Quartet of Top-10 Finishes

Evans, Georgia (08/01/18) – Ahnna Parkhurst enjoyed a successful week of competition behind the wheel of her LauriesFund.org #23 Richard Childress Racing Crate Late Model with a quartet of Top-10 finishes to show for her efforts.

“It was a solid week for our team,” Parkhurst noted. “We raced four times with three Top-5 finishes and no worse finish than sixth. We’ll definitely take that and look to build on it. We’re learning a lot about this car, and I’m getting more comfortable in the driver’s seat every time out. I want to say a special thanks to everyone, who supports my program.”

Ahnna’s busy week of racing kicked off on Sunday evening at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia), where she laid down the third-fastest time in qualifications, positioning her third on the starting grid for the main event. Dropping back to as far as the fourth position during the race’s early stages, Parkhurst mounted a late-race charge to a runner-up finish behind Austin Smith with Colby Kilgore, Ashton Winger, and Sam Seawright completing the Top-5 finishers.

On Tuesday evening Ahnna Parkhurst was one of 26 Crate Late Models on hand at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). Starting her night by registering the fourth-fastest time in qualifying, Parkhurst battled in the Top-5 throughout the A-Main before crossing the finish line in the fourth position behind Jason Welshan, Clay Harris, and Sam Seawright with Chip Brindle coming in fifth.

The following night at Crossville Speedway (Crossville, Tennessee), Ahnna locked her spot into the feature with the sixth-fastest time in qualifying. Holding her spot for the entire distance, Parkhurst recorded a sixth-place finish.

After losing Friday’s program at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) to evening rain showers, Parkhurst stopped at Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Georgia) on Saturday night. After timing in fifth fastest in qualifying, Ahnna held her spot for all 20-laps in the feature, notching a fifth-place finish behind Bobby Richey, Colby Kilgore, Logan Palmer, and Granger Howell.

Carney Set for Southern Iowa Speedweeks

Lonnie Wheatley, EL PASO, Texas (August 1, 2018) – John Carney II is all set for Southern Iowa Speedweeks action over the next two weeks with the California-based Clayton Snow No. 7 Sprint Car team.

It all begins with this week’s 28th Annual Knoxville 360 Nationals at the famed Knoxville Raceway at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, IA.  Carney will take in Thursday night’s qualifying action before Saturday’s championship finale.

“We just picked up a new engine, so we should be up to speed now,” Carney said after testing the 360-ci waters with Sunday night’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Iowa’s Mason City Motor Speedway.  “What we were running really wasn’t up to speed, this will get us where we need to be.”

After the Knoxville 360 Nationals, racing action shifts to 410-ci competition at Knoxville with Sunday night’s Seventh Annual Capitani Classic.

From there, it’s on to Oskaloosa’s Southern Iowa Speedway over the next two nights with Monday’s $20,000-to-win Front Row Challenge for 410-ci Sprint Cars and then Tuesday’s 360-ci ASCS Ultimate Challenge.

Southern Iowa Speedweeks then culminates with the 58th Annual Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway on August 8-11.  Carney is set to take in the Thursday night, August 9, Toyota Qualifying night segment of the event before the Friday and Saturday portions.

Carney took in this past weekend’s All Star Circuit of Champions events at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex and Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway along with the ASCS card at Mason City.  While Carney and the Snow No. 7 team didn’t find the results they were looking for, they learned some things that could prove invaluable.

“We had some fueling issues, it turns out we were way off.  And then we found some steering box issues too,” Carney explains.  “We made some improvements at Knoxville after Jackson on Friday night, so we’re moving in the right direction.  At least we have a little bit of information to work with going into Nationals.”

Carney goes into Southern Iowa Speedweeks after a recent runner-up finish in “Speedweek Northwest” points and a seventh-place finish in ASCS Speedweek points.

Getting the fuel system dialed in on the 410-ci and with a new powerplant in place for 360-ci action, it all begins on Thursday night for Carney and the Clayton Snow No. 7 Sprint Car with the Knoxville 360 Nationals.

John Carney Racing is made possible by the support of invaluable partners including Mesilla Valley Transportation, Vado Speedway Park, South Plains Auto Transport, Danny Sander Construction, CSR Garage, Briley Trucking, Momentum Racing Suspensions, Performance Plus, Performance Motor Coach, Raider Graphix, MSD Ignition, Joe Hunt Magnetos and Bell Helmets.

Next Up:

Thursday through Saturday – 28th Annual Knoxville 360 Nationals

Sunday – Seventh Annual Capitani Classic (410-ci) at Knoxville Raceway

Monday – Front Row Challenge (360-ci) at Oskaloosa’s Southern Iowa Speedway

Bellm Picks Up Third Win of the Year with Lake Ozark Score

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (August 1, 2018) – Kyle Bellm reeled off his third feature win of the year by topping last Saturday night’s main event at Eldon, Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway aboard the familiar No. 14k Sprint Car.

It capped off another strong weekend aboard the Greenworks Nursery/Landscapes Awarded Sprint Car that included a fourth-place run in ASCS Red River action at Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway.

“It pretty easily could have been a two win weekend, we had a really good car at Creek County on Friday night too,” Bellm said of the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care entry.

The Saturday night triumph marked Bellm’s third win in his last nine starts seven top-fives in the last ten outings.

Friday’s action at Creek County began with a runner-up heat race finish and then an eighth-place starting position aboard the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision machine.

Bellm worked his way forward and had just made a move for third place with the lead duo well within striking distance when a red flag flew.

“I had just passed Sean (McClelland) for third and the red came out that put us back to fourth,” Bellm says.  “It was an open red so everyone was able to work on their cars, after that I just couldn’t get back around Sean.  I felt like we had at least a third-place car if not possibly a winning car before that open red.”

Bellm made his way back to Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday night and finally scored his first win of the year at the Eldon oval after scoring four wins atop the 1/3-mile clay track last year.

“We drew a good number and the track was pretty heavy in the heats so we were able to win from the pole,” Bellm recalls.  “Then we got to second pretty early in the feature and with about five to go we got around (Taylor) Walton for the lead.”

It took some work aboard the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions/Schaeffers Racing Oil entry to secure the win.

“He was up top, but there was some moisture on the bottom and you just had to be patient to hit it right,” Bellm explains.  “The lapped cars were on the bottom, so that kept breaking up my runs at him.  We finally caught a break in traffic and I was able to get by.”

After repeated strong outings at Lake Ozark, it was a well-timed win for the team.

“We’ve been near the front, so it feels good to finally get a win and get on the good side of things,” Bellm says.  “It’s good to know we’re working well at Lake Ozark, especially with a $10,000-to-win race coming up in a few weeks.”

With a third win of the year in the books, Bellm and crew will take the next pair of weekends off before settling into the stretch run of the season.

2018 Quick Stats:  24 races, 3 wins, 11 top-fives, 14 top-tens.

Up Next: ASCS Warrior Region at Sedalia’s Missouri State Fair Speedway on Sunday, August 19.

Reutzel to the Ironman 55 & Capitani Classic after Recapturing All Star Points Lead

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (August 1, 2018) – It has been a season of firsts for Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team.  First-time experiences, first-time tracks and fortunately a few first-place finishes.

This weekend brings another first, as Reutzel makes his initial laps atop Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway at the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars “Ironman 55” event on Friday and Saturday before making his way over to Knoxville, Iowa for Sunday night’s Capitani Classic.

“It’s a big couple of weeks,” Reutzel said of this weekend’s events that lead into next week’s 58th Annual Knoxville Nationals.  “We have everything ready, we’re excited for it.”

Reutzel goes into the Ironman after a four-race All Star Circuit of Champions weekend that moved him back atop the points charts in his maiden voyage with the series aboard the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car.

It was a weekend that included three top-ten finishes.  And the one finish outside of the top ten could have very easily been the team’s ninth triumph of the year.

The four-race set of events began on Thursday night at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin’s Angell Park Speedway, where Reutzel was well in command aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry before a strange turn of events resulted in a 21st-place finish.

“We were fast, we were pretty much checked out in the feature,” Reutzel recalls.  “A clump of mud hit my helmet and knocked my Raceceiver off.  Then a caution came out, everyone slowed down and I ran over Joey (Saldana).”

A discrepancy between flags and lights led to the incident that resulted in race-ending damage.

“Apparently they were saying caution over the Raceceiver, but the flagman never turned the lights from green to yellow so I had no idea I needed to slow down since I had lost my Raceceiver,” Reutzel says.

The Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions team regrouped in short order with a runner-up finish at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex on Friday night.

“I was a little too conservative early,” Reutzel said after starting the $10,000-to-win feature event in eighth.  “We tightened it up, so I was a little nervous to go up top and get aggressive with it.”

But once Reutzel stepped it up, he was on the move in short order.

“We went from tenth to second in no time and then I found the rubber on the bottom before Kerry (Madsen) did,” Reutzel explains.  “Then a lapped car passed him in the rubber and he jumped down there before I could get by him.  After that we just rode it out in second.”

The weekend continued with Reutzel’s first Knoxville Raceway start since earning Hard Charger honors at last year’s Knoxville Nationals.  And some early experimentation put Reutzel nine rows deep in the feature starting field.

“We tried something other than our normal Knoxville setup and it wasn’t that good,” Reutzel explains.  “We went back to what is usually good for us at Knoxville and I think it was good.”

It was a bit on the difficult side to discern though.

“The nose wing got knocked sideways at the start, so it was a little hard to tell but I think we’re where we need to be with our Knoxville setup,” Reutzel said after working his way forward to an eighth-place finish.

Reutzel wrapped up the weekend on Sunday night with a sixth-place run at West Burlington, Iowa’s 34 Raceway.

“It was locked down and hammer down all night,” Reutzel says.  “We ran fifth the whole race then got tight at the end and gave up a position.”

Despite a Thursday night win that got away at Angell Park, Reutzel escaped the weekend with a scant four-point lead in the All Star Circuit of Champions title chase.

With the All Stars idle over the next two weekends, Reutzel is set to chase down Ironman honors this weekend in Pevely, MO, and Knoxville’s Capitani on Sunday night.

2018 Quick Stats:  49 races, 8 wins, 18 top-fives, 26 top-tens.

Bacon Bound for PA Midget Week after Strong Sprintweek

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (August 1, 2018) – After an idle day or two on the heels of an impressive USAC Sprint Car “Indiana Sprintweek”, Broken Arrow, OK, native Brady Bacon is eastbound and down for the Fourth Annual USAC National Midget series “PA Midget Week” that fires off Thursday night.

USAC’s PA Midget Week action kicks off at Path Valley Speedway Park on Thursday before moving on to Linda’s Speedway on Friday, Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday and then BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Following four nights of action aboard the FMR No. 76m Midget, Bacon will make the quick turnaround back to Iowa for next week’s 58th Annual Knoxville Nationals aboard the Brady Bacon Racing No. 99 Winged Sprint Car.

Midgets this week and the winged Sprint Car next week comes in the aftermath of seven nights of non-wing USAC Sprint Car action over the course of “Indiana Sprintweek”.

And it was a week in which Bacon continued to show impressive speed each night out aboard the Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts/Tony Elliott Foundation No. 99 with a win the opening night out at Plymouth Speedway on July 20 highlighting a Sprintweek that included four top-ten finishes and concluded with Hard Charger honors in Saturday’s finale at Haubstadt.

Sprintweek kicked off with “The Macho Man” notching his fourth USAC Sprint Car win of the season by racing from the fourth position to pace the field the final half of the race at Plymouth Speedway on the way to victory lane, outlasting a leaking right rear tire over the final laps.

“I was getting a little nervous towards the end, I wasn’t quite sure on the racetrack where I needed to be,” Bacon said afterward.  “Everything is kinda clicking right now, the car is back to the way it felt in the No. 69.”

After Saturday’s Kokomo postponement, Bacon rallied from 14th on Sunday night, July 22, at Lawrenceburg Speedway to capture his second podium finish in a row by making a late run to capture third at the stripe.

“Our car was really coming in at the end, I think we had the best car at the end of the race,” Bacon commented.  “We gained a bunch at the beginning but then we were tight and lost a few spots before we got moving again.  We just had to start a little too far back.”

Action continued on Tuesday, July 24, with the Kokomo makeup event where Bacon salvaged a 12th place finish on the night after getting collected in an early race incident.

Bacon was right back in the hunt the next night at the Terre Haute Action Track, landing a front row starting position and racing on to a solid fourth-place finish in the non-stop 30-lapper atop the storied ½-mile clay oval.

Round Five at Putnamville’s Lincoln Park Speedway on Thursday, July 26, opened up with Bacon setting a quick time of 12.276 second over a field of 47 entries before wrapping up the night in 16th.

After starting seventh at Bloomington Speedway on Friday, Bacon held steady for a solid sixth-place run before rounding out the long week with Hard Charger efforts at Haubstadt’s Tri-State Speedway on Saturday by racing from 21st to eleventh.

“It was pretty hard to pass with the track reworked before the feature,” Bacon commented.  “We made our car a lot better, but we’ve struggled for some reason without a wing here the last couple of times.”

With seven triumphs to his credit already this season, Bacon looks to add his first USAC National Midget triumph of the season to the ledger over the next four nights in Pennsylvania.

Sunshine Set for PA Midget Week after Posting Pair of Sprintweek Wins

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 1, 2018) – The beat continues on for Tyler Courtney on the USAC trail.

After posting a pair of wins over the course of the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car series “Indiana Sprintweek” to run his season total to nine overall triumphs, another four-race set of USAC Midget events awaits this week in the Keystone State with the Fourth Annual PA Midget Week for the USAC National Midget series.

With six top-tens in seven rounds of Indiana Sprintweek, Courtney maintains a close third in USAC points aboard the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc Sprint Car.

He takes a ranking of seventh in USAC Midget points aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc Midget into this week’s events with second in points a mere 24 markers away.  This week’s stops include Path Valley Speedway Park on Thursday, Linda’s Speedway on Friday, Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday and BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday.

“Sunshine” opened up Indiana Sprintweek by picking up Hard Charger honors at Plymouth Speedway on Friday, July 20, by rallying from 12th to round out the top five.

“We got behind the eight ball in qualifying and with the group of cars we have it’s tough to come through the field like that,” Courtney commented.  “To get a top-five tonight after the way we got started is a good way to start Sprintweek.”

After a Kokomo postponement on Saturday night, Courtney cashed in on a front row staring position at Lawrenceburg on Sunday night, July 22, to capture his sixth USAC Sprint Car win of the year.  It wasn’t without withstanding several strong challenges over the final half of the race though.

“As a driver, you don’t really want it to be that close,” Courtney said afterward.  “I kinda thought I could cruise there for a little bit, but then they come biting at ya.”

After climbing a handful of positions from 12th to finish seventh in the rescheduled event at Kokomo Speedway on Tuesday night, July 24, “Sunshine” picked off his second Terre Haute Action Track win in a row the next night.  Courtney needed just three laps to rally from the fifth starting position and was well in command the rest of the way in the non-stop affair.

“We got qualified where we needed to be, got a good start and didn’t have a caution after that,” Courtney said.  “To get a second win here and during Sprintweek is pretty huge.”

The tides turned the next night at Putnamville’s Lincoln Park Speedway, where Courtney ultimately settled for 21st on the night after a charge from eighth to win his heat race.

Courtney finished out the week with another pair of strong top-ten showings including a fifth place run at Bloomington Speedway on Friday and then a ninth-place in the Saturday night finale at Haubstadt’s Tri-State Speedway.

With one Midget score to his credit thus far in 2018, Courtney will look to add to that this weekend.  “Sunshine” was close to Midget victory lane last year with finishes of second at Path Valley, third at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway and fourth at Linda’s Speedway.

2018 Quick Stats:  48 races, 9 wins, 29 top-fives, 36 top-tens.
