Earl Pearson Jr. Perseveres for Historic Win in Inaugural Dirt Million
Mega Victory Rewards Black Diamond Racecars Team with $202,939.50
Shreveport, Louisiana (08/28/18) – Earl Pearson Jr. overcame adversity to score a historic win on Saturday night in his Black Diamond Racecars House Car/ Lucas Oil #1 P&W Sales/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
The Florida racer overcame multiple pit stops to claim the $202,939.50 top prize in Mansfield Motor Speedway’s Dirt Million.
“First, we got caught up in the (Jonathan) Davenport wreck, and then we just kept battling the handle to get it where we needed it, so we made two or three pit stops there,” Pearson Jr. commented after winning the second-largest, winner purse in the history of Dirt Late Model racing. “Late in the race we had fresh tires, and I think that made the difference in getting the win. I knew that Bobby (Pierce) was going to give it everything he had. I just focused on hitting my marks.”
For Pearson Jr., he was extremely proud to give car owners – Ronnie and Terri Stuckey – a historic win.
“This team came together late last season, and I know some folks questioned if we had all lost our minds, but we’ve been fast all year. Ronnie is like a brother to me, and to give him such a big win means the world to me. So many folks have supported us this year, and I want to thank them all from the bottom of my heart. It’s probably going to take a few days for this win to sink in.”
The Black Diamond Race Team invaded Mansfield Motor Speedway (Mansfield, Ohio) over the weekend to compete in the inaugural Dirt Million. Friday night found the field of 77 entries divided into a pair of $10,000-to-win programs, and Pearson Jr. opened his weekend with a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday night, Earl started his outing with a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Tyler Erb. With only the winner locking into the feature, Pearson Jr. was relegated to a B-Main.
Sending the Top-2 finishers into the record-setting finale, Pearson Jr. streaked to a 12-lap consolation victory, which positioned him 17th on the starting grid for the 100 lapper.
After a caution flag on lap 19 found Pearson Jr. making a quick trip to the pits, he again. returned pitside on lap 29 after suffering a flat-tire. Advancing from the tail of the field, Earl broke into a podium spot by lap 89, setting his eyes on race-leader Bobby Pierce. Blasting past Pierce on lap 92, Earl Pearson Jr. held the field at bay for the final eight circuits to capture his sixth win of the season and a $202,939.50 payday.
Pierce, Gregg Satterlee, Ricky Weiss, and Scott Bloomquist completed the Top-5 finishers in the 100-lap affair.
“We kept tweaking on this hot rod all night, and we had it right where it needed to be at the end,” team owner, Ronnie Stuckey commented. “This is just an unbelievable feeling and is a testament to how hard every single member on this team works. This was a total group effort.”
Earl currently sits in fourth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) point standings. For more results from these events, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .
The team will be back on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) circuit this weekend with a trio of events in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia.
