Brandon Sheppard Races to First Victory of ’21 Campaign
WoO Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway Up Next
SHINNSTON, W.Va. (03/29/21) – Rocket1 Racing with driver Brandon Sheppard ventured to South Carolina over the weekend for the Rock Gault Memorial. While Mother Nature may have put the brakes on Saturday’s action, it didn’t stop Sheppard from piloting the Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered Rocket Chassis to his first win of 2021 in preliminary action on Friday night.
The Illinois’ racer pocketed $5,000 for his Friday night trip to Victory Lane after overtaking race leader, Dale McDowell in the late stages. Saturday night’s $40,000-to-win finale fell victim to heavy rain.
“Towards the end (of the feature) we got to lap traffic and luckily my tires must’ve been just right at the end because I could roll the middle and top pretty good compared to early in the race,” note Sheppard. “We’ve been on the struggle bus for most of the year, but I knew not to count ourselves out. I’m definitely looking forward to heading to Farmer City this weekend. It’s a place, where I’ve turned a lot of laps at and enjoyed a lot of success.”
Brandon Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing team returned to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series circuit on Friday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.
The 42-car field was split into two groups, running two 25-lap feature events on the opening night of the Rock Gault Memorial doubleheader. After qualifying third in his group and record a runner-up finish in his heat race, Sheppard was locked into the sixth-starting spot for the $5,000-to-win feature.
Brandon pulled into second with 15 laps to go and using the high lane around the 3/8-mile oval began to track down race-long pacesetter, Dale McDowell. Sheppard caught McDowell with two laps to go. He rocketed around the outside of him in Turn 3, using a slower car as a pick to get by.
Persistent rain showers creating a high-water table and saturated grounds at Cherokee Speedway forced World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series and track officials to postpone Saturday’s Rock Gault Memorial finale. A make-up date was not immediately announced.
Sheppard carries his momentum into this weekend’s Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.). The World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series event is highlighted by a $6,000-to-win program on Friday night and a $20,000-to-win event on Saturday evening. Brandon is a three-time Champion of the event with his most recent title coming in 2019.
Sheppard currently sits second in the latest World of Outlaws Late Model Series standings. To learn more about these events, please visit www.WoOLMS.com.

Matt Henderson Wins in Thrilling Fashion at the Hornet’s Nest
Preps for American All Star Series Weekend
LOUDON, Tenn. (03/29/21) – After Mother Nature nixed his original plans, Tennessee racer Matt Henderson made the last-minute decision to hit the road on Saturday evening. His change in itinerary paid big dividends as he piloted his Stanco Equipment Co. No. 17 Vineyard Lawn / CVR Race Car / Hendren Racing Engine Late Model to the feature win at Talladega Short Track.
Not only did Henderson streak to his second win of the year, but he did so in thrilling fashion with a last-lap, last-corner pass for the lead.
“What a crazy day, but it all paid off. After Mountain View Raceway got canceled, we scoured the forecast, looking for any tracks within reasonable distance to us, and Talladega Short Track looked best. So, the crew scrambled to change tires over and make adjustment to the car to head south,” Henderson shared. “We finished second in the heat and made some tweaks to the car before the feature. We got to second early in the feature, but we really started making ground when I went to the top. I was able to make a last-lap pass coming to the checkered flag to get the win.
“It was a great night for our team, and I want to say a big thanks to everyone, who supports our program and makes it all possible.”
After Mother Nature wiped out his original plans, Matt Henderson traveled to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Saturday night, where he piloted the CVR Race Cars No. 17 house car in the track’s season opener.
In a field of 16 Late Models, Matt advanced one spot in his heat race to register a second-place finish behind T.J. Brittain. Rolling off fourth for the main event, Henderson shot into the second position in the early laps as he began his pursuit for race-leader T.J. Brittain. Tracking down Brittain late on the high-side, Matt succeeded on a last-lap pass to secure his second win of the season over Brittain, with Chase Walls, Joe Noojin, and Jake Traylor.
For more information on this event, please visit www.TalladegaShortTrack.com.
The team now looks ahead to the upcoming weekend, where they tentatively plan to enter the American All-Star Series season openers. On Friday night a $2,000 winner’s check is up for grabs at Boyd’s

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (03/29/21) – Joe Godsey maneuvered his Homes by Roth No. 14G Waco Title/ Ridout Lumber Company/ Kimbel Services/ MB Customs / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first victory of the season on Friday night.
The triumph came at Oklahoma’s Thunderbird Speedway with the Sooner Late Model Series.
“We’ve been burning up the highways to start the year with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. We’ve learned a lot about our new cars, and we’ve taken our lumps as well racing with the best in the business, so it was nice to see all of the hard work payoff with a win on Friday night,” Godsey said. “On Saturday night, we had a great car again, but I messed up in the heat race and that put us way behind. We charged from 21st to second, so overall it was a pretty good weekend.
“I just want to say ‘thank you’ to Roth Motorsports and all of our sponsors, who relentlessly support my racing program.”
On Friday afternoon, Jeff Roth and Joe Godsey made the trek to Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Okla.) to take part in the opening round of the two-day Okie Dirt Classic. Drawing 26 Sooner Late Model Series entries, Joe passed seven cars in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory while Jeff gained five spots to place third.
Tracking down race-long pacesetter Kip Hughes on lap 24 of the feature, Godsey led the final two circuits to capture his first win of the season and a $750 prize. Hughes, Hayden Ross, Justin Wells, and Clay Julian trailed him to the checkers. Roth was a lap-19 retiree from the 25-lapper.
The following night, Roth secured his spot into the $750-to-win A-Main with a fifth-place finish in his heat while Godsey came in seventh. Wheeling his way into the Top-5, Joe passed 19 cars in the 25-lapper to fish second, following Jacob Magee across the line with Kaleb Roach, Clay Julian, and Hayden Ross rounding out the Top-5. Jeff Roth improved two spots to register an 11th-place finish.

Date: Saturday, March 27th
Event: Jason Johnson Classic
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Lake Ozark Speedway (Eldon, Missouri)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 11th (12th)
2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Tied-4th | 1238 points [60 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]
BROWNSBURG, Indiana (March 29, 2021) - Although Mother Nature tried her best to make a mess of the entire weekend, ultimately washing out Friday’s planned visit to US-36 Raceway in Osborn, Missouri, Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team managed to get one start in the books and joined the Greatest Show On Dirt for the third annual Jason Johnson Classic at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri.
Despite a shortened distance and “elbows up” conditions, Donny Schatz managed to battle his way to ninth on Saturday night, eventually fading back to 11th to officially advance one position after starting 12th on the $15,000-to-win grid. Originally intended to go 41 laps, the Jason Johnson Classic main event was eventually cut to 30, due in whole to a weather-induced racing surface.
The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion secured his place on the A-Main starting grid after finishing fourth during his respective heat race, kicking-off his evening by qualifying ninth quick among the 31-car field.
Despite missing the top-ten, only the second occasion in 2021, the Fargo, North Dakota-native remains tied for fourth in the World of Outlaws standings, just 60 points shy of Brad Sweet’s championship lead.
Donny Schatz will continue his quest toward an 11th World of Outlaws title, as well as a 300th World of Outlaws victory, during a two-day stop at the always-competitive Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. The two-day showcase will feature back-to-back programs awarding $10,000 each.

Rico Abreu and Works Limited persevere for a podium in Tulare |
|

|
|
|
|
|
Dates: Friday and Saturday, March 26th-27th
Event: Kings of Thunder | Dalton’s Down Under Tour
Series: Kings of Thunder 360 Sprint Cars
Track: Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway (Tulare, California)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: DNF
Saturday: 2nd (9th)
ST. HELENA, California (March 29, 2021) - Despite a hiccup during Friday’s main event that forced an early retirement, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu and the Works Limited 57 team persevered in a big way on Saturday night and cashed in their “DNF” for a podium performance, eventually capping their two-day, Kings of Thunder 360 sprints visit at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway with an impressive rally from ninth to finish second; Abreu’s sixth top-five result in ten starts aboard the ever-familiar Works Limited 57.
Certainly no stranger to success on the highbanks of Thunderbowl Raceway, Rico Abreu is the most recent winner of the coveted Trophy Cup, actually sweeping all three nights of the annual program in 2019 to score a grand total of $26,000. The event was not held in 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 regulations in California.
“Thunderbowl Raceway is my all-time favorite place to race. I cut my teeth on that cushion and we’ve had a lot of success there. I wanted to get a win bad for the Works Limited 57 team, but we were forced to settle for one spot out. Those guys deserve to get a win very soon,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Works Limited/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/No. 57 sprint car. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to drive the 57. That car is strong enough to win on any given night. Unfortunately, it just hasn’t happened yet, but it will.”
Set to make his annual journey to the central and eastern time zones, Rico Abreu will continue his 2021 campaign with a long haul to the Show-Me State, set to invade the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, for a two-day World of Outlaws visit on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. The two-day showcase will feature back-to-back programs awarding $10,000 each.
Like Tulare, Rico Abreu and success at I-55 go hand-in-hand. The Californian is a two-time Ironman 55 champion at Federated Auto Parts Raceway, winning the $20,000 paydays in consecutive fashion in 2016 and 2017.
“We’re excited to see our Midwest fans,” Rico Abreu added. “And we love I-55. Hopefully we can put on a show. It’s a badass place to race.”
