Slipping past Lowe early, Logan Roberson topped Lowe, Rusty Ballenger, Ross White, and Andy Ogle at the line in the 25-lap caution free race to pick up his 12th win of the season.

Cory Hedgecock Streaks to First-Career Southern All Stars Win
Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 this Weekend

Loudon, Tennessee (09/17/18) – Cory Hedgecock continues to collect career firsts in 2018. Earlier this year he won his first-ever World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series event and then backed it up with an inaugural Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals victory.

On Saturday night he added another first, when he piloted the Shadden Motorsports #9 Cushman/ K&P Used Cars/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Eagle Racing Engine Super Late Model to the $4,000 victory with the Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series.

“I wasn’t really saving my tires (in the feature). I was trying to run a little (more) front brake so I could get in (the turn) harder,” said Hedgecock. “I was trying to get in (the turn) a lot lower than (Collins) so I could come off a lot lower, so I could stop in the center of the corner. (We) had a lot of traction in this thing, so I could just drag race up off the corner.

“As always I want to thank the Shadden family for providing me with this great hot rod, and I want to thank everyone who supports this program.”

Powering the Valley Transport #9 Super Late Model, Cory Hedgecock was one of 31 Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series entries registered at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tennessee) on Saturday night for the Dirt Slinger Classic.

Laying down the second-fastest time in his qualifying group behind Jay Scott, Hedgecock earned the third-starting position for the A-Main. Overtaking Kenny Collins late in the race, Cory Hedgecock built a 2.6 second lead over Collins by the time he crossed the line en route to his 14th win of the season over Collins, Jason Manley, Joseph Faulkner, and Ryan Tims. He was awarded a $4,000 payday for his performance in the 40-lap affair.

The pilot of the Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model picked up $10,000 on Saturday night for his victory in the 33rd annual WISSOTA 100.

"The track prep this week, a lot of people were worried about it, but I think it was the best WISSOTA 100 we've been at yet," winner Ricky Weiss said. "The track held up, the fans are great, the facility's great, and I think we've got a pretty good future here.

“I can’t say enough about how hard my team is working. They are giving a great racecar each and every night. It’s really cool to win our first WISSOTA 100. This feels like a dream right now, and I just can’t until the next event.”

On Wednesday night Ricky Weiss kicked off the WISSOTA 100 at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), where he was pulling double duty in the Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified ranks. In a field of 38 Super Late Models, Weiss gained four positions in his heat scoring a runner-up finish behind Shawn Kirwin. Earning the third-starting position for the preliminary feature, Ricky moved up one spot to place second behind Brian Diede with Dan Ebert, Don Shaw, and Marshall Fegers rounding out the Top-5.

Hopping behind the wheel of Cody Skytland-owned #711 Open Wheel Modified, Ricky came up one spot short of a transfer position into the opening night feature with a fifth-place finish in his heat.

Track: Calistoga Speedway (Calistoga, Calif.)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 10th (12th)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 17, 2018) - Ending a stretch of competition that lasted nearly one month with the Greatest Show On Dirt, Rico Abreu concluded his trek north and west with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series with three events in four days, first tackling the bullring that is Placerville Speedway, followed by two, complete nights of action at the big half-mile at Calistoga Speedway. The nearby St. Helena, Calif., native was two laps away from finishing the weekend three for three in the top-ten column, only to be denied by a steering issue during action on Wednesday.

Although scored 18th during 49er Gold Rush Classic action at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday, September 12, Abreu was well on his way to another World of Outlaws podium finish, potentially a trip to victory lane, when steering issues as the result of contact in the closing circuits forced Abreu to retire before the main event was completed.

Abreu led the first seven circuits before losing the top spot to eventual winner, Brad Sweet.

Rebounding in a big way, Abreu returned to action with the World of Outlaws on Friday and Saturday, September 14 & 15, for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway. Two nights of competition resulted in back-to-back top-ten finishes for the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Rhino Wipe/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil Products/Priority Aviation/No. 24 entry, actually kicking-off the weekend with a third place finish on Friday, followed by a tenth place finish on Saturday. Abreu started second and 12th, respectively.

“It was a solid weekend for our team. I felt like I may have let them down on Wednesday at Placerville, but we bounced back and earn two, great finishes on Friday and Saturday at Calistoga. That place is pretty special to me. It’s not too far from where I live so we have a lot of people there supporting us,” Rico Abreu explained, who has amassed two World of Outlaws victories thus far in 2018. “Overall, I think we had a very productive West Coast Swing with the World of Outlaws. It felt great to spend a few days at home with my family. Now we can begin making the long journey back to the East Coast.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing will now make the journey back across the country and set their aim for the Buckeye State, ready to rejoin the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and All Star Circuit of Champions during back-to-back events at Eldora Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 21 & 22. Dubbed the 4-Crown Nationals, the Greatest Show On Dirt will activate the two-day blockbuster at The Big E with action on Friday. The All Star Circuit of Champions will takeover on Saturday.

In addition, Rico Abreu will pilot a midget during the USAC National Midget Series portion of the 4-Crown Nationals program on Saturday evening.

Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 2nd (4th)

World of Outlaws Championship Standings (as of 9/17/2018): 1st - 8320 points (224-point margin over second place, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 17, 2018) - A weekend that improved day by day for the nine-time and defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz capped off his second West Coast Swing of the 2018 season in impressive fashion by finishing inside the top-ten during all three events of his three-race/four-day schedule, two of which inside the top-five, and nearly scored his 20th victory of the season. The consistent weekend allowed Schatz to maintain the World of Outlaws championship point lead, now with a 224-point advantage as the Series turns back toward the East Coast.

“My team does an excellent job of providing me with race cars that are more than capable of winning and being competitive,” Donny Schatz said, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car. “Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite where I needed to be this weekend. We were close on Saturday and I thought we were going to get that one, but sometimes things don’t work out to how you want them to. We’ll head back east and keep working for ways to win.”

A three-race schedule that kicked-off with a tenth place finish at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday, September 12, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing really picked up the pace during action at Calistoga Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 14 & 15. After finishing fourth on Friday, the product of an outside-third row starting position after setting the evening’s fastest time during time trials and earning a heat race victory, Schatz was in the hunt for a win on Saturday until a late caution ruined his chances.

Starting fourth on the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown finale grid, Schatz climbed ahead and took the top spot away from race leader, Cory Eliason, with just two circuits remaining. Unfortunately for the World of Outlaws championship point leader, caution flags flew just as Schatz took the lead, forcing the familiar No. 15 to restart behind Eliason with a green-white-checkered restart ahead. Cory Eliason held on with Schatz in tow at the final checkers.

A cross country trip that will register well over 2,000 miles on the dashboard, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will now leave the West Coast and set aim for a pair of starts on the East Coast, ready to invade Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday, September 21, followed by a stop at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on Saturday, September 22. Schatz is certainly no stranger to competition at each of his upcoming destinations. In fact, Schatz is four for five at Eldora Speedway thus far in 2018 which includes a $50,000 Kings Royal title in mid-July.
