FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Roberts and BMS Win the Southern Nationals Championship

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 30) If there wasn’t enough drama going into the last Southern Nationals race at Tazewell Speedway leading Dale McDowell by six points Casey Roberts smacked the wall during qualifying. He would start the backup car dead last and finish fourth in the first heat, start 10th in the feature and finish fourth one spot ahead of McDowell to win the championship.

McDowell, who had to finish three spots ahead of Roberts to win the championship was leading when he got together with challenger Michael Chilton and cut a tire down. He went to the rear and worked his way back to the front finishing fifth and second in the point chase.

Over the nine series races Roberts finished in the top five seven times and three of those were second place finishes.

“Consistency wins championships, but you better have some good luck to go along with it,” said David Bryant. “Casey was consistent and after having more than our share of bad luck we got a little good luck for a change.”

“Don’t get me wrong it is great to win the championship, but without winning a race on the way to winning the championship takes some of the fun out of it,” said Roberts. “David and the boys really did a great job all series and especially up at Tazewell. For us to recover and do as well as we did with the backup car and come away with the championship was really something.”

It was the second Southern Nationals Championship for both Roberts and the Blount Motorsports Team. Roberts won his first in 2015 driving for Cushman Racing and Blount Motorsports won in 2009 with Tommy Kerr behind the wheel.

With one car needing to be clipped and crew member Taylor Watson leaving the team the schedule for the next couple of weeks is up in the air.
