Ricky Weiss Claims Career-Win in 36th Annual North-South 100
COMP Cams Topless 100 Up Next at Batesville Motor Speedway

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/14/18) – Ricky Weiss recorded a dream performance in Saturday night’s 36th annual Sunoco Race Fuels North-South 100 at Florence Speedway behind the wheel of his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model.

The Canadian hot shoe took the lead on lap 59 and went on to pace the field for the final 41 circuits en route to the $50,000 payday in the crown jewel event.

“It’s hard to put into words what this win means to me,” Weiss said. “Our team has come so far. We used to go to these races and just hoped to make the big show. Now we are winning these shows. Shawn (Gage) and my whole crew have been pushing and working so hard, and it shows on the track. Cody (Mallory) and Scott (Bloomquist) have been a tremendous help with my program. I want to thank all of my sponsors because I couldn’t do it without them. We hope to add some more marketing partners before next year, so that we can go after a national tour next year. I think this shows that we are ready.”

After starting the extended Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) weekend quietly with a 25th-place finish in Wednesday night’s Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky), Weiss kicked things into gear on Thursday night with a sixth-place finish in the $10,000-to-win North/South Shootout.

Friday night saw 56 LOLMDS entries signed in for the opening round of the two-day North-South 100. Following a third-place finish in his first heat, Weiss streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory in his second heat, which locked him into the sixth-starting position for the A-Main on Saturday evening.

After running in a podium spot for the first 58 circuits, Weiss inherited the lead on lap-59 when the leader suffered a flat-tire. Holding off Hudson O’Neal in the closing laps, Ricky Weiss captured his first-career national touring victory and his 15th win of the season along with a $50,000 payday. Tim McCreadie, Hudson O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, and Jonathan Davenport completed the Top-5 finishers in the 100-lap affair.

Transmission Failure Ends Roberts Run at Cherokee

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 14) A misplaced gear and an exploding transmission took care of any chance that Casey Roberts and the Blount Motorsport team would have had in the Clash race at Cherokee Speedway on Saturday.

The track was so muddy for hot laps that it was impossible to tell that the car had the wrong gear.

“The gears got switched around at the last race and the crew chief shot himself in the foot when he didn’t check the gear before he put it in the rear end,” said David Bryant with a grimace. “The track for hot laps was really muddy and we didn’t find out about the gear until we went out to qualify. Vic Hill makes a good engine, but I don’t care how good it is it wouldn’t stand up to those rpms.”

Needless to say they didn’t qualify well and were relegated to the B main. While leading the B the transmission came apart signaling that it was time to call it a night. Roberts and the team loaded up and headed home.

“We will just keep digging and be at Crossville this Friday night and down at North Georgia on Saturday,” concluded Bryant.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp., Blount Excavating, Massey Electric, Tennessee RV, Turner Hydraulics, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Food City, and The Wine and Spirits Cellar.
