Howard Moore Races to Riverside Season Opening Win
ASCS Doubleheader on Deck

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (04/17/23) – Howard Moore outran Mother Nature and a strong field racers to register the $2,000 victory on Saturday afternoon aboard his Rains Motorsports No. 3 Mike’s Pool Care JR-1 Chassis Sprint Car at Riverside International Speedway.

“We won the heat race from sixth to earn the pole for the feature, but Marshall (Skinner) grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. I was able to get past him after a few laps, and once out front never looked back and got the win,” Moore said. “I really want to thank Clayton Allen and everyone at Riverside International Speedway for moving the show up to the afternoon to beat the rain that was coming in. Not many tracks would’ve done that, so I really appreciate it. They ran the show like a well-oiled machine.

“We had AG, Mike, Chris, Billy, Taylor and Kayle in the pits. I appreciate everything they did for me. I am fully aware of how fortunate I am to have this team along with the opportunity that AG has given me. Thanks to Kayle for videoing and keeping up the Rains Motorsports page. Thanks for the extra set of hands from Billy Mooneyham. Everyone pitches in to make each night happen.”

Memphis driver Howard Moore steered his No. 3 machine from the Rains Motorsports stable to victory in the lid-lifter for the 360 Winged Sprints on Saturday night at West Memphis, Arkansas’ Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Ark.).

In preliminary action, Moore started sixth in his 10-lap heat race and picked up five spots to take the checkered flag on the quarter-mile gumbo oval.

That performance was good enough for pole position in the 25-lap A-Main. While fellow front-row-starter Marshall Skinner jumped to the early lead, Howard trekked him down early in the race to take the top spot.

Once out front, Moore cruised the track’s first 360 victory of the season and a $2,000 payday.

Landon Crawley, Dale Howard, Tucker Boulton, and Ernie Ainsworth completed the Top-5 finishers.

The victory was his second overall on the season, which includes a USMTS Modified win at Ark-La-Tex Speedway back on March 30. Dillard added a runner-up finish on Saturday night in CCSDS action at Rocket Raceway Park.

“I kept looking at it (the outside groove in turns three and four) under caution and I thought there was a little bit left up there, just wasn’t sure and I didn’t want to kill what run I had going,” Dillard explained in Victory Lane on Friday night. “I was being way too conservative there early, and I seen him (Rasdon) start driving away, so I was like well I better make something happen here, just had to get on the wheel and make it happen up there. It was a great night for our team and this car was on point.”

Cade Dillard was back behind the wheel of his Strength Roofing & Siding No. 97 Late Model on Friday evening for the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) sanctioned program at Texarkana 67 Speedway (Texarkana, Ark.).

His fourth-career CCSDS victory came ahead of Rasdon, Kyle Beard, Billy Moyer Jr., and Morgan Bagley.

Joining his 2014 Dirt Late Model Dream mega win, was a Saturday night domination of the $100,000-to-win XR Super Series Spring Thaw 100 at Volunteer (Tenn.) Speedway. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer led all 100 laps of the finale to bank the six-figure victory.

“I’m going to be 57 here next month. Really, at my age, you really get to looking at how fortunate we are to do what we love,” McDowell said in Victory Lane. “And it’s really not just people on the car, but people all the way up the ranks that’s gotten me here. It’s huge because you don’t know how many more of these things you can win. You can bet your butt we’re going to enjoy this one tonight.

“All my family’s here. My kids are here. They’re not here very often. They’ve gotten older and they don’t care what dad does. They’re here tonight, Tiffany and the whole family. This is bigger than you guys know.”

Serving as a test session for the upcoming Spring Thaw, Dale McDowell’s week began with a return trip to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) on Tuesday evening to compete with the XR Workin’ Man Series.

With a unique format setting the grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, McDowell laid down the fastest lap amongst a field of 45 cars before picking up a heat and dash victory. Earning the pole for the feature, Dale led the first half of the race but was unable to contain a charging Chris Madden late in the 40-lapper. He followed Madden across the line with Kyle Bronson rounding out the podium.

Back in action on Saturday afternoon after Mother Nature shortened the XR Super Series-sanctioned Spring Thaw 100 to a single day, Dale topped the massive 60-car field in time trials before dashing to a 10-lap heat race win.

Leading all 100 laps from the second-starting position, McDowell flew past Hudson O’Neal for the lead on the opening lap of the feature and weaved through the lapped traffic late to pick up $100,000 payday and his first win of the 2023 campaign.

Podium Finish for Rocket1 Racing in Volunteer Speedway’s Spring Thaw
Castrol FloRacing Night in America and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Action Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (04/17/23) – Hudson O’Neal piloted the Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to a third-place finish in Saturday’s $100,000-to-win Spring Thaw at Tennessee’s Volunteer Speedway.

Hudson ran second for much of the mega finale before crossing the finish line in third behind Dale McDowell and Mike Marlar.

“Yeah, it’s not too bad. Anytime you can be standing on this front straightaway you can consider it an OK night,” O’Neal said after the race. “Obviously we want to be a little bit better. We want to be out there where Dale is or even one more spot where Mikey is. We had a good race car, just lost it a little bit there the last 30 laps.

“I started to get a little free through turns one and two, and that let them get by me,” O’Neal added. “Then I got to the top and thought I’d make a run. I slid Mikey once and had some more opportunities to capitalize and I would make a mistake, or not get the launch I needed to. I don’t know, man. I’m very, very pleased with this Rocket Chassis. We had a great week here, and a great couple weeks here. We’ll take third and see if we can’t build upon it.”

With Mother Nature shortening the two-day event into a single day, Rocket1 Racing and Hudson O’Neal returned to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon for the XR Super Series-sanctioned Spring Thaw 100.

Drawing 60 Super Late Models, O’Neal topped his 30-car field in time trials before streaking to a 10-lap heat race victory.

Earning the pole for the $100,000-to-win A-Main, Hudson faded two spots in the 100-lap affair to register a third-place finish. He chased race-long pacesetter Dale McDowell and Mike Marlar to the checkers.

Cory Hedgecock Banks $7,500 Winner’s Check at I-75 Raceway
Three-Day World of Outlaws Swing Through Tennessee and Alabama Up Next

LOUDON, Tenn. (04/17/23) – Cory Hedgecock collected the $7,500 American All-Star Series presented by PPM payday on Friday evening at I-75 Raceway after leading all 55 laps of the feature behind the wheel of his W.E. Hardscapes & Masonry / Noble Knights Construction Services / No. 23 Currin Construction / BMF Race Car / Eagle Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The triumph was his fourth of the 2023 campaign.

“We learned a lot over the weekend and made a lot of gains. The crate car was money at I-75 (Raceway) on Friday night. It was by far the nicest, cleanest steering racecar I’ve ever driven. We’ve been chasing the balance on the Super Late Model a bit, but in the 100-lapper on Saturday night at Volunteer (Speedway), we made some big strides,” Hedgecock said. “We’re looking forward to three nights of World of Outlaws action this week to see where we stack up with the changes we’ve made to this BMF Racecar.”

Tuesday night saw Cory Hedgecock began a busy week of racing with a visit to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) with the XR Workin’ Man Series.

With 45 Late Models entered for a tune-up for the upcoming Spring Thaw 100, Hedgecock raced his way into the $20,000-to-win via a runner-up finish in his B-Main after missing a transfer spot in his heat race. Improving three positions in the finale, Cory crossed the line in 16th.

On Friday afternoon with the American All-Star Series presented by PPM at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.), Cory picked up the fast time honors in time trials before placing second in the dash. Grabbing the lead from Cody Overton on the opening lap of the feature, Hedgecock led wire-to-wire in the 55-lapper to capture his fourth win of the season and a $7,500 payday.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday with the rain-shortened XR Super Series-sanctioned Spring Thaw 100 on Saturday at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.). Hedgecock followed up a fifth-place finish in his heat race with a runner-up performance in his B-Main, which positioned him on the 11th row for the $100,000-to-win A-Main.

Wheeling his way into the top-10, Cory passed 12 cars in the 100-lap affair to finish ninth.

From there, Cory will head to another track where he’s enjoyed success with a trip to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) for the Alabama Gang 100. The mega weekend is highlighted by twin $4,000-to-win features on Friday, followed by a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

“Finally… that’s probably the best way to sum it up. For the most part I feel like we’ve been in contention in most events so far this year but just had no wins to show for it. We knocked down two this past weekend, so hopefully that gives us some momentum heading to 81 Speedway this week. I love that place, and there’ll be a lot of friends and family there. Most importantly the weekend is a great tribute to Ed Gressel, who did so much to support racers like me,” Mullens said.

Tanner Mullens went two-for-two over the course of the weekend, scoring victories in USRA Modified races at two tracks in the Sooner State.

The Wichita, Kansas, driver began the weekend by taking the top spot out of 28 entrants in the American Racer USRA Modified Series’ season-opening event at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway on Friday evening.

Mullens moved from fourth to first in his eight-lap heat race on the quarter-mile oval and started the 35-lap feature from the third position in a 24-car field. Mullens took the lead on Lap 13 and masterfully worked his way through lapped traffic while maintaining his spot at the front of the pack. His No. 02 machine crossed the line ahead of Rodney Sanders and Kale Westover to take the $2,000 winner’s share.

On Saturday, Mullens and team moved to the season opener at Longdale Speedway (Longdale, Oklahoma) for a Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series contest. Different track, same result.

Mullens started fourth and finished third in his eight-lap heat race, putting him in the eighth starting spot for the 20-lap feature. He sprinted to the front, passing seven cars to best the 240 Consulting USRA Modifieds division, which boasted 18 entrants on the evening.

Full results are available at www.USRARacing.com .

Tanner returns to the Summit USMTS trail this weekend – April 20-22 – with the inaugural Ed Gressel Memorial at 81 Speedway (Wichita, Kan.). The weekend includes a $3,000-to-win program on Thursday, a $5,000-to-win event on Friday and a $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Tanner is currently 15th in the latest series standings and will be looking to make up ground in the championship battle this weekend.

Rodney Sanders Banks $2,000 in ARMS USRA Visit to Lawton
81 Speedway’s Ed Gressel Memorial Up Next

HAPPY, Tex. (04/17/23) – Rodney Sanders dominated the American Racer USRA Modified Series visit to Lawton Speedway on Saturday night aboard his Wichita Tank Racing / Paulson Rock Products / Stussy Construction No. 20 Texas Locomotive Solutions / Kenny’s Tile / ARMI Contractors / MB Customs Race Car / Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

The triumph marked his second of the 2023 campaign.

“We had a good car all night,” sanders said. “We changed a few little things from last night and it seemed to really respond. (The track) was a little bottom dominant, and I thought I could roll Kenny (Gaddis) on the outside, but then he kind of moved up a little bit and gave me some room on the bottom.”

Rodney Sanders made the trip to Lawton Speedway (Lawton, Oklahoma) on Saturday night and left $2,000 richer after taking the checkered flag in the American Racer USRA Modified Series main event.

Sanders’ familiar No. 20 was among 24 entrants at the ¼-mile semi-banked red clay oval, where the Happy, Texas, drive swept the evening. Sanders first topped his eight-lap heat race from the fourth spot, and after the redraw, also started the A-Main from the fourth position.

He passed early leader Kenny Gaddis with six laps complete and never looked back, cruising to the win in the 30-lapper by a whopping 7.75 seconds.

Kenny Gaddis, Kale Westover, Manuel Williams II, and Cole Dennis completed the Top-5 finishers.

One night earlier on Friday, Sanders was also one of 28 entries for the USRA Modified Series contest at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Oklahoma.

Sanders started fourth and finished third in his eight-lap heat race on the 1/4-mile clay oval, putting him eighth on the grid for the 35-lap feature. He passed half a dozen cars during the race to score a runner-up finish.

Full results from both events are available at www.USRARacing.com .

Sanders now turns his attention to the inaugural Ed Gressel Memorial, which will be held this Thursday – Saturday at 81 Speedway (Wichita, Kan.). The Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) weekend includes a $3,000-to-win program on Thursday, a $5,000-to-win event on Friday, and a $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Bayston and CJB Motorsports persevere in Pevely; Knoxville Raceway visit next

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 1678 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (April 17, 2023) - Open wheel fans from around the world are finding out quickly that one can never count out Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, and the Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based open wheel outfit certainly proved that narrative correct during the recent weekend, powering ahead from 22nd to finish eighth at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday, April 14.

Bayston, still hunting for his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season, was forced to start 22nd after missing a transfer position in his respective heat race. The former Bristol Bash champion went on to finish second in the Last Chance Showdown placing the Lebanon, Indiana, native on the outside of row 11 for the 40-lap feature.

Although a great display of perseverance, Bayston’s A-Main campaign did not go on without any challenges, as he narrowly missed a multi-car incident which would have surely ended his charge.

Other recent highlights include finishing seventh during High Limit Sprint Car Series competition at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday, April 11; he started fifth.

“Much of our focus lately has been on getting ourselves out of holes when they occur, and that’s exactly what we did on Friday. We certainly battled our way out of a hole and that’s something to be proud of,” Spencer Bayston, driver of the TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, No. 5 sprint car, said. “Our team has a ‘no giving up’ attitude and I absolutely love that about our program. Nights like those at Pevely are going to happen, and taking them on like we did is only going to prove beneficial to us all year. I’m really looking forward to Knoxville this weekend and seeing what kind of speed we have there.”

Ian Madsen and TKS Motorsports look forward to Knoxville’s WoO doubleheader

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (April 17, 2023) - Despite Mother Nature ruining all chances of additional testing prior to the upcoming blockbuster, Ian Madsen and TKS Motorsports are more than prepared, ready to take on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in a two-day invasion of Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.

Madsen, certainly no stranger to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, is a former track champion at the famed oval, hoping to utilize that experience in what he hopes to be a major weekend for the Albaugh - Your Alternative/Iowa Barnstormers No. 2KS team.

As hinted, Knoxville Raceway’s season opener, slated for Saturday, April 15, was eventually canceled due to poor weather.

“This will be our first major test against the Outlaws, but I think we’re ready to compete,” Troy Renfro, owner of TKS Motorsports, said. “We haven’t had the best of luck so far this year, but no better time to shake that off than when the Outlaws are in town.”

Speaking of bad luck, Madsen and TKS Motorsports were forced to DNF during High Limit Sprint Car Series competition at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday, April 11. Incidental contact - a “nowhere to go” situation - during the evening’s $50,000-to-win A-Main kept the team from any further progress.
